Reincarnated As Both God And The Devil - Chapter 236
“Your grandfather’s death… was at my orders.”
“!!!”
The entire house began to quake as Viel’s hands started to tremble. Even though the existence of his grandparents was only a story to him, he still could not help but feel a certain rage build up inside of him.
It was as if his body was telling him to cry, but he doesn’t really know if he should. It was a complicated feeling. His eyes were also open, and although they still can’t see, his eyes were looking directly towards Noah.
“Fuck!” Sofia could not help but curse as she rushed towards Noah. Noah slightly raised his hand to guard himself, but contrary to his expectations, Sofia did not attack him. Instead, she went straight towards Lyanna, pulling and carrying her away from Noah before quickly rushing outside the house.
Lyanna resisted at first, but when she saw the tears trailing on Sofia’s face, she could not help but remain quiet. As soon as they got outside, Sofia quickly summoned a bubble that lifted them and flew them straight towards the town.
“You again!? Why are you back here!?”
As soon as Gabriel saw Sofia landing from the skies, he grunted. He was about to complain some more, but before he could do so, the night sky darkened even further.
“W… what the!?”
Sofia quickly summoned a huge bubble to protect the whole town. She placed thousands of layers, almost not allowing the light of the moon to pass through.
“What the…”
Gabriel could not help but gulp as he saw what Sofia just did. Even in his long time living in this world, he has never seen a feat like this be done, and almost instantly, even while carrying someone. He knew that Sofia was not a normal person. But he never imagined that it would be to this extent.
“Why–”
“Gather everyone to the center of the town, now!”
Gabriel was about to question Sofia as to why she summoned a barrier, but before he could do so, Sofia’s loud bellow pierced his ears. Hearing the panic in her voice, Gabriel did not even hesitate to follow her orders.
“Do as she says! Gather everyone to the center of the town! You, inform the mayor and his family! The rest of you, knock on every door you come across!”
“A… at once, sir!”
The other guards that were remaining quiet on the side quickly saluted before rushing inside walls. They too had no idea what was happening.
“Take this child as well!” Sofia screamed as she handed Lyanna towards Gabriel.
However, Lyanna did not let go, her grip tightening even further as she grabbed onto Sofia. “W… what’s happening to father and Mister Viel!?” She shouted.
“I would also like to know what’s happe–”
*BOOM*
Once again, before guard leader Gabriel could finish his words, a thundering explosion reverberated in the air. And even with the bubble already protecting their town, they could still feel the movement of the earth from their feet.
“W… what in the… What’s happening outside!?”
“…”
“Talk to me, woman! I need to know what’s happening!”
Sofia could not help but click her tongue as she listened to the guard leader’s words. She too had no idea what was happening outside. There is, however, one word that came to her mind.
“…War.”
“W… war!? Are the undead already outside!?”
“No… worse,” Sofia shook her head as she let out a light breath,
“…Gods.”
***
“So… you are a god of death, then?”
Noah’s eyes reflected the moonlight as he looked around him. The house that they were in just now was completely gone, only its ashes remain floating in the air. The other houses were gone as well.
A simple gust of wind was enough to perish the blades of grass that once littered the scenery outside. Even the ground and the earth itself was as if charcoal.
No, it was as if life itself did not exist. Death rippled a few dozen meters, and at the center of it, was Viel.
[Energy Absorption]
Viel’s pitch-black eyes glittered in green as a monotonous voice echoed through the air.
“…Is that voice one of the gods inside of you?” Noah squinted his eyes as he looked straight at Viel’s eyes, “No. I don’t feel anything in the voice.”
“Why…”
As Noah continued to analyze the situation, Viel started to whisper. And although it was a whisper, his voice pierced Noah’s ears. No, it entered the ears of even the people that were inside the town.
No, even further. For thousands of kilometers, Viel’s whispers could be heard. As if he himself was just beside you, whispering into your ear.
His whispers… almost heard by the whole world.
“Why did you have them killed?”
Viel’s voice was calm, but still, it contained a certain pressure. Not overbearing, but still contained enough weight for one to stutter with their breaths.
“…”
Noah let out a long and deep sigh as he closed his eyes. “I had to see what you were capable of. I had to see if you would hinder the Prophecy that I have so forsakenly planned. And seeing you here right now…
…I was right.”
Noah opened his eyes, and as soon as he did so, a bright blue light leaked out of it. It was followed by a whistle, and then a ripple of light that obliterated the already dead grass that surrounded them.
A bright blue flash that could be seen even through the barrier that Sofia made.
Noah’s body then became bigger and bigger, his previously dark skin now blue, emitting a bright blue light that pulsed along with his heart.
“You are dangerous, Viel. You should not exist in this world.”
***
“That… that voice…”
Somewhere in the Eastern Continent, papers fluttered in the air. And a woman with a scar on her face stuttered.
“That… that voice,” she repeated her words.
“M… mommy? W… whash wong?” A small little girl then trotted towards her, clinging onto her legs with her eyes slowly turning moist and red.
“It… It’s him… It’s Viel.”
“Miss Xing Cai! Miss Xing Cai!”
As the woman with a scar on her face continued to mutter her words, a woman barged into the room.
“That voice… It’s master Viel’s!”
***
“D… dear, wake up! Did you hear that voice!”
Lu Xun threw the blanket on top of him and woke up Diao Mei, who was fast asleep.
“Hm… what… what’s happening?” Diao Mei could not help but let out a loud yawn as she was suddenly woken up from her slumber.
[Why… why did you do that?]
“!!!”
However, as soon as she heard an uncomfortable whisper enter her ears, her previously sleeping eyes quickly woke up as she sat up.
“That’s… Viel!?”
“I… I think so.”
Diao Mei quickly jumped off from the bed as she rushed outside their room and straight towards the outside.
She looked around, only to find that several people were already outside. Looks of confusion on their faces as they also tried to find where the whispers were coming from.
There was also a familiar face amongst the crowd, Violet.
“Violet, did you hear that!?”
“…Of course.”
Violet could not help but furrow her eyebrows as she looked at the starry skies. Her glistening eyes reflected the setting moon.
“It’s him, isn’t it?”
“Hm…”
“His voice… I could hear the pain in it.” Violet then closed her eyes as she took a deep breath. “Where… where could he be?”
“Why… why does he sound so sad!?” Diao Mei rolled her trembling fist as she continued to listen to Viel’s words… no. Her eyes trembled not because of his words, but because of his cries.
Viel’s words… were a cry for help.
“Viel… where are you?”
***
“…”
“…”
Matriarch Yinji was covered in blood and sweat, her breathing erratic as several golden swords circled around her at an unbelievable speed, reflecting the rays of the sun like a mirror. They whistled in the air… but then, slowly, they started to calm down.
She then looked in a certain direction, wiping the scar on her face as she wiped the blood that was gushing out of it. She then let out a slight hum as she turned her head and looked at the silver-haired woman in front of her, Demon God Cortana.
“Why did you stop when you heard his voice?” Yinji asked the woman in front of her as the swords circling around her completely stopped moving.
“X… Xanthus?” Cortana stuttered as she looked in the direction where Yinji was previously looking, dropping her gigantic axe on the ground without even caring that her enemy was still in front of her.
“…Xanthus? The previous Demon God?” Hearing Cortana’s words, Yinji could not help but furrow her eyebrows. And then, after a few seconds, her eyes widened.
Cortana’s previously pale skin started to blossom red. Her eyes of blood, becoming normal.
“Xanthus!?”
And her voice, which has only been calling for death, now contained warmth. And without even as much as a glance towards Yinji, thunder echoed through the air as Cortana instantly disappeared from her spot.
Yinji and Cortana had been battling for years. Without any food, without any rest. By all accounts, it was a battle that Yinji considered endless.
And yet, that almost unending battle was stopped by a whisper.
“…That voice belongs to the boy, doesn’t it?” Yinji muttered as she looked at the axe that Cortana just nonchalantly left on the ground.
And, with a long and deep sigh, another thunder echoed across the air as Yinji too, suddenly disappeared from the battlefield.
