Reincarnated As God - Chapter 1
As Meng Li sat on the small bed he just woke up on, he was pondering on what was happening. The last thing he remembered doing was just… Trying to fall asleep in his bed. And now, he woke up. However, the problem was that he didn’t recognize the bed he woke up on. In fact, he didn’t recognize the room he was in. Which wasn’t a big surprise, since the room he was in was completely white. If he couldn’t feel the wall he was leaning on and the fact that he checked and the floor did, in fact, exist, he would’ve thought he was in some sort of white void.
“Did my friends prank me?? No, I don’t have friends. And even if I did, this would be way too hard to do just in order to prank someone…” Meng Li thought aloud.
He wasn’t exaggerating. The room didn’t have a discernible source of light, but he still could see everything clearly – there just weren’t any shadows. It was not within the capability of current technology… Even VR wouldn’t be able to fool him, since he performed the basic checks – to touch his head. Yep. There weren’t any VR headsets which could “link in to your brain” and capture signals you sent to your arms – therefore, the only thing he needed to do to check is to try and touch his head, whether there was anything obscuring his vision. There wasn’t anything there.
Meng Li was quite confused at this point. He had sat on the bed for about 5 minutes – he couldn’t measure time precisely since he didn’t have his phone. He didn’t have anything in fact – he slept naked, and he woke up on an unfamiliar bed. Just as he was beginning to ponder for the 5th time whether he was still dreaming, he suddenly saw something in the corner of his eye.
a row of text appeared on the wall. Just as Meng Li finished reading it, he also noticed that at some point, in between the bed and the text, on the floor appeared a simple mat. Confused, he stood up and walked towards the mat lying on the floor.
Walking in the white room proved to be an… unique experience. He couldn’t really see the floor despite feeling it under his feet. Ignoring the weird feeling, he reached the mat and started looking. The mat was… ordinary. It was a simple bamboo mat. However, on top of it laid two things he didn’t see before. He wasn’t quite sure whether he just didn’t notice them, or if they appeared without any warning like the mat, but he decided not to think about it too much. One of the two things was a simple training robe with long sleeves, made from a material he couldn’t quite identify. However, despite being made from an unknown material, it felt smooth to the touch and quite comfortable once Meng Li put it on. As he realised how he looked like however, he couldn’t help but self deprecatingly smile.
“I look like a wannabe cultivator now…” The robe, despite not being adorned with any fancy decorations, still gave off a vibe which reminded him of his childish dreams of cultivating and ascending to the heavens. These memories, although he was fond of them, they also reminded him of the not so good aspects of his childhood. You see, Meng Li was an orphan, and the orphanage he was raised at… To put it mildly, it wasn’t an enjoyable place to live. What helped him get through this harsh stage of his childhood was a small library he used to hole himself up in. The library, although small, was packed with many stories about cultivation – it was, after all, a library in an orphanage, mainly focused on fairy tales and books that helped with memorising basic Chinese characters.
Shaking his head to stop reminiscing about his childhood, Meng Li sat down on the mat and decided to take a look at the other item laying on the mat – a small book. Or rather, a booklet. It was so thin that it wouldn’t be hard to cut it into pieces with an ordinary pair of scissors, in fact. As he opened the booklet, he realised that it was tightly packed with characters. The level of detail in the book was astonishing – despite every character being smaller than half a centimetre, they were all perfectly written, without so much as a smudge or a splatter of ink. Ignoring the content of the small book, the entire thing was a calligraphy masterpiece just off of the level of dedication put into each and every one of the characters. Meng Li was astonished. He was not a huge fan of calligraphy, but even he could recognize a treasure if it was in front of his nose…
Shaking his head once again to clear his mind of the unnecessary thoughts, he decided to instead read the booklet to get more information on what he had to do to get out of the white room he was trapped in. As he started to read however, he was once again astonished at the contents…
“To cultivate to the first level of Qi Gathering, one must start sensing Qi. Upon sensing the Qi contained in everything around one’s self, one must start pull some of it in and circulate it around the body…” Next to the text was a small silhouette of a man Meng Li didn’t notice before, and something seemed to be flying slowly around his body in a peculiar pattern. As Meng Li started focusing on the anomaly in the drawing, he suddenly felt something alien about the particle. It didn’t seem like it was actually there, but he could see it with his eyes… It was also oddly familiar to him, as though he was in contact with it for his whole life without realising it… As he started to concentrate on it more and more, he suddenly felt as if a certain barrier inside his mind was broken.
The influx of new sensations he never felt before stunned him. It was a whole new world he was not aware of, which was separated from him by a thin veil, was suddenly exposed to him. It was a miraculous feeling. He could suddenly feel qi surrounding him, in the air, in the walls which he previously couldn’t distinguish, even in his own body – trace amounts of qi were absorbed by him simply going about his day. The amounts were miniscule and mostly in his muscles, probably tempering his muscles. But the amounts were so miniscule the impact was probably within the margin of error of every scientific study that would study muscle development. However, now that he could sense the Qi around him, he had passed one of the major hurdles of cultivation and could now proceed to attempt to absorb it and circulate it.
After a few minutes of marvelling at the new sensations, Meng Li started to read the small booklet once again. However, nothing new appeared this time, so he simply started trying to influence the qi in the air around him. At first, there was no reaction. In fact, even after trying in vain for half an hour, the flow of qi around him displayed no change. He finally managed to create a small ripple in the qi surrounding him after a whole hour of simply sitting on the mat, concentrating on it.
“Yes! Finally!” he couldn’t help but shout after feeling the slight ripple. Despite still not being able to draw it in, he achieved a small degree of success.
At first, he studied the small booklet just because he didn’t have anything else he could do, but now he was convinced. He somehow travelled into another world… Or at least he hoped so. If he was still in the original world, then he was most likely kidnapped and going to be a lab rat. After all, being an orphan with no friends freshly out of college, he was a perfect target and nobody would notice his absence. But for now, he put his worries aside and decided to simply try and advance to the first level of Qi Gathering. After all, he had felt the Qi surrounding him and had no doubts that cultivation was, in fact, real. So, for now, he decided to simply sit on the mat and cultivate.
An indeterminate amount of time later, Meng Li woke up and released a long breath. According to the small booklet he tucked into his robe, he had finally broken through to the first level of Qi Gathering. It was quite hard and took him a lot of tries, but he had managed to do it in the end. At the beginning, he quickly managed to somewhat control a single qi strand and try to absorb it, but he failed. It was as if his skin was a barrier, preventing the strand of qi from entering his meridians. He quickly figured out that the correct way to do it was to control the strand of qi to enter his lungs along with his breath and absorb the strand of qi through there, where the barrier was much weaker. It was true, but he quickly realised that doing so this way created another problem – he had to control the strand of qi precisely through his nose, down his windpipe and into his lungs. His control was quite feeble, so if he bashed the strand of qi against something, his control over it would quickly dissipate and the strand would simply return to the ambient flow of qi around him when he exhaled. And even when he managed to absorb his first strand of qi, controlling it to move along the pathway depicted in the booklet was quite hard, and if he made a slightest mistake, it would simply dissipate and enter his muscles. Although when the qi entered his muscles, it strengthened them slightly, it was ultimately extremely inefficient and not really his goal, so he deemed it a failure. After 5 hours, he finally managed to complete the circulation, which seemed to clear the pathway of impurities which were preventing the qi from flowing smoothly before. After which, the strand of qi once he gave up controlling it, continued flowing along the pathway. He could feel it, like a warm stream flowing inside his body. According to the booklet, he was currently barely at the first level of Qi Gathering, and to reach the peak of the first level the stream of qi needed to be continuous. Then, he just needed to make the stream thicker and flow faster…
Meng Li’s thoughts were stopped suddenly when he felt an unknown weight appear on his legs. As he looked down, puzzled, he noticed that another booklet laying there. This booklet, similarly to the previous one, had nothing on the cover. As Meng Li decided to pick it up and read it, from the corner of his eye he noticed that the writing on the wall changed.
It now stated below the previous text.

“A nameless technique? What does it do? Also it’s great that I won’t be a lab rat…” Meng Li wondered aloud. He now had confirmation that he was not, in fact, in a lab of some sort but rather somewhere… else. But at least he was not going to be experimented on, so he was quite relieved. Shrugging the train of thought off, he opened the new booklet. On the first page, this time in big, bold writing, was a description of what the technique was for. As Meng Li read it, his eyes grew to the size of saucers and his breathing grew rapid.
“This…. This is too OP!” he couldn’t help but shout.
