Reincarnated As God - Chapter 40 Sword Training
Meng Li’s face quickly turned black. If he was still on earth, with such an expression, some people might’ve accused him of doing a blackface. However, Meng Li didn’t think of it, instead feeling like he was insulted by the system. However, his rational thinking quickly kicked in, as always, before he even did anything. All of that pent up frustration and the black face was released with a deep sigh.
Meng Li seemingly deflated and summoned the loosely tied pages. They nearly scattered the moment he summoned them, and he was able to save them at the last moment only by using his Qi to gather them together. This further frustrated Meng Li, but he once again calmed down as he remembered the description of what the pages were. They were notes of a Primordial Soul cultivator nicknamed the ‘Sword Saint’. These pages contained his comprehension of the basics about the sword, compiled for his disciple, who unfortunately met his demise. However, the Sword Saint broke through, past the Primordial Realm and onwards – the description didn’t mention what happened next, though. The only one thing which the description mentioned was that the Sword Saint was a rarely seen genius and he already had several brushes with the Dao of the Sword before breaking through to the Primordial Realm, which was remarkable. This caused Meng Li to ask the system a question in surprise.
although he already knew the answer to the question, he wanted to learn more about the Dao and when people usually comprehended it.
[Yes. The lowest recorded brush with the Dao, excluding you, is the Nascent Soul Realm, and earliest comprehension the Primordial Realm.] the system replied. Despite being emotionless as always, Meng Li thought that he sensed the tiniest bit of amusement from the system’s voice.
However, what the system explained was quite discouraging to Meng Li. Even though he managed to have a brush with the Dao at such a low realm, it really did seem that he had a long way to go until he would be able to comprehend it. Meng Li estimated that even if he had a freakish talent, the earliest he could do it would be at the Origin Core Realm, and a far more realistic situation would be comprehending it at the Nascent Soul Realm or even later. Fortunately, Meng Li didn’t become completely discouraged by the thought – even though his chances of comprehending the Dao of Painting or the Dao of the sword soon seemed slim, he already found that he enjoyed the activity itself. As such, he would continue painting, and probably training the sword too – he needed a weapon, and he simply felt like the sword was innately familiar to him.
With his thirst for knowledge satiated, Meng Li turned his attention towards the loose papers on his lap. Although he was eager to start reading, he decided to first arrange them in some way so they would fall apart.
In a few minutes, what he had on his lap was no longer a stack of papers, it was a stack of papers disguised as a booklet. Although it was shabby, at least now it wouldn’t fall apart with the slightest move. Meng Li, satisfied, switched into learning mode and started reading.
The stack of papers truly was fundamental knowledge. It described the proper stance, the proper way of holding the sword, basic moves. Apart from techniques focused solely on the sword, it also described auxiliary techniques, like proper footwork, some ways of storing a sword, or even techniques of tempering the body. Meng Li had a question regarding the last bit, namely training the body, so he asked the system.
he asked naively.
[Although they are supported by your cultivation, at their core, they’re extremely weak. True body reinforcement comes from the vital force, not from Qi.] the system replied. Meng Li flinched a little when it mentioned his weak muscles, but he had to painfully admit that it was true. His muscles were indeed very weak – he didn’t exercise much on earth, and it seems like this trait was unfortunately brought over. However, the system also brought to him a piece of wonderful news – he could further increase his strength!
Although his strength was already immense, more power was never something Meng Li would deny. He smiled and returned to the booklet, wanting to finish reading it before training. His decision turned out to be a good one – at the end of the booklet, or rather, the bottommost pages, contained a few basic sword techniques. They weren’t special in any way, even their names. They were called ‘Strong Chop’, ‘Qi Slash’ and ‘Fast Stab’. After reading the horrendous names, Meng Li silently swore that he wouldn’t shout out the names of techniques when he used them. To his surprise, although the techniques had absolutely god awful names, their might was above ordinary. The ‘Strong Chop’ used Qi in such a way that it produced a might three to four times stronger than the original strength he used, and it was useful up to the Origin Core Realm. It was truly wonderful!
The other two techniques weren’t shabby either. The ‘Qi Slash’, the least awfully named technique among the three, produced a slash of sword Qi which would continue onwards from the sword. The distance it would travel depended on the cultivator’s realm – a Qi Gathering cultivator could produce one which would go for about twenty metres, a Qi Sea cultivator could produce a slash which would travel for about a kilometre, and a Qi Foundation Realm cultivator could produce one which could go on for potentially hundreds of kilometres. The slash contained an incredible power, and was an effective way of attacking at a distance. At higher levels of proficiency with the technique, it was said that he would be able to control the Qi after he released it, making it practically impossible to avoid.
And for last, the ‘Fast Stab’, despite its’ bad name, was the true killing technique. It was, as its’ name implied, a stab. It produced a strand of incredibly concentrated sword Qi which travelled on a straight line. It had incredible penetrating power, which was both a good and a bad thing. When it penetrated something, it would leave behind a fist-sized hole, which could be useless for dealing with bigger opponents. On the good side, it was good for breaking through defences. The stab would also travel for a longer distance than the slash – about two times longer, even though its’ might declined with distance. The last good thing about it was the fact that it was incredibly easy to cast without attracting attention, and the Qi itself was so fast it actually broke the sound barrier. The target wouldn’t hear anything, and the stab would arrive in a split second even from hundreds of metres. Even though it was a sword technique, Meng Li couldn’t help but think that it would be put to a better use in assassination.
However, the application of the techniques was not a worry Meng Li should hold before he actually learned them. With such a thought, Meng Li jumped up from the boulder and prepared to start training.
Although it was the middle of the night, Meng Li could still faintly see due to the light from the moon and the stars. Fortunately, the sky was practically completely free of clouds, leaving the small valley to be basked in the moonlight.
Meng Li quickly cleared a small area of the ground and started practicing the basic method described in the papers. It was a set of moves, designed to make him familiar with the basic stances and holding a sword. The moves were arranged in a way that depicted a fight between the one using the moves and a sparring partner. Although Meng Li called it a ‘sparring partner’, the set of moves contained many moves which were aimed to kill.
Unfortunately, Meng Li quickly encountered a problem. His strength was just… Too high. The ground around him was actually full of footprints he unconsciously created when practicing the set of moves, all because of the fact that his strength was too high. As such, he turned to the system for a solution.
he asked. He didn’t want to alert anyone by practicing with his full strength, and he had a feeling that purposefully restricting his strength would cut the effectiveness of his training by a lot.
[There are many.] the system replied and showed many items in the summoning tab. They were numerous, but all of them had the same use – sealing a practitioner’s strength. However, Meng Li immediately eliminated the ones which weren’t techniques. He wanted something he could use for a long time, so one use pills and formations with a rigid effect were out of the question. Even if he could summon them again, it was simply a chore, so Meng Li decided to choose something better since he could.
In the end, he settled on a simple technique. It didn’t have a name, but it was quite powerful. With it, a cultivator could seal his cultivation to any level he wished. It wasn’t simply sealing his cultivation, either – his increased strength from supporting his body would be sealed too, his superior senses would be sealed as well, and if he was at a higher realm, even his soul’s strength would be sealed. And even though it was such a throughout seal, it could be undone in an instant with a mere thought, but if the cultivator didn’t wish to release it, it wouldn’t budge.

With a smile, Meng Li summoned the manual and learned it. Despite being so strong, it wasn’t hard, and Meng Li spent merely a few hours to learn it. When he did, he threw the manual in his bag of holding – it would stay there if he didn’t give it to someone else, as he had already learned everything he could.
On top of being extremely strong, the sealing technique was easy to change too – for example, he could seal his body’s strength, but not the pillar supporting his brain and senses, not to loose his comprehension. As such, Meng Li executed it. Immediately after creating the last seal, his body was washed with weakness. After all those years of living with superior strength, he adapted to it, and being so weak all of a sudden was startling. And to his surprise, even though his muscles were strengthened by the pillars, their core strength didn’t increase, and even weakened… Meng Li would have to train arduously to strengthen them.
With his strength restricted to the ninth layer of Qi Gathering, Meng Li resumed his training. He had sealed his body’s strength as well as his Qi, but left his increased senses and his brain, not to restrict his comprehension. His training was going smoothly – although he was exhausted afterwards, he felt great. It may be the feeling of growing stronger, or it may just be endorphins, but Meng Li didn’t care – he was happy.
When he ended training, even though he was completely drenched in sweat, his robes were clean as always – they even seemed to be more airy than usual, letting wind through in order to provide cooling for his weary body. Meng Li appreciated it – the more he wore them, the more happier he was about the robes he received, presumably from his master. They were better than anything he had ever wore on earth, and he didn’t even have to clean them!
After ending, Meng Li went back to camp. He didn’t unseal his cultivation, but he was still able to avoid detection by all of the guards. Only Ye Jian, who was cultivating outside his parent’s tent, noticed his arrival. He merely opened his eyes and looked at Meng Li – even though he had completely cleaned himself up, he was sure that Ye Jian noticed that he was training. Meng Li didn’t care, since Ye Jian was his friend, and he continued on. He decided to sleep those last few hours – he missed sleeping. However, he lacked a tent. Without caring about the conditions, he decided to sleep in the small cart his group were travelling in. The wooden floor wasn’t comfortable, but it wasn’t such a big deal to Meng Li. His body was strong enough to withstand hard bedding. Or so he thought…
