Reincarnated As God - Chapter 49 Killing Inten
The cat was still rushing at them, and Meng Li didn’t have time to talk. He quickly kicked off the ground and rushed backwards. Although they were fighting on a slope, right now, the line in which Meng Li was running was flat.
After a few metres, Meng Li looked back. Ye Jian rushed slightly behind him, but had started running up the slope, about thirty degrees to the right. Strangely enough, even though Ye Jian was closer to the cat, it still chased after Meng Li. However, this time, he didn’t feel scared, and instead felt happy.
The cat was quite fast, and would catch up to Meng Li in less than ten seconds. Thus, he needed to think of something quickly.
The night had already came, and thus, the ground was black. With Meng Li’s sight, he was barely able to make out shapes of things nearby with the dim light streaming from the stars in the sky. After a few dozen metres, the cat was only a few metres behind Meng Li. In merely ten metres, it would be close enough to make the final pounce. Meng Li still didn’t know what to do, and right now, he was short on ideas. Suddenly, something popped up into his sight a few metres ahead, slightly up the slope.
It was strangely straight, and Meng Li had run another few metres before he realised what it was. A cliff. It was a cliff. If he were to run off of it, he would have no choice but to unseal his cultivation to survive, but if the cat somehow fell off, it had no such life saving measures. Thus, Meng Li made his choice.
The cliff edge was still about ten metres away from him, and Meng Li knew that it would take him about that distance to slow down. However, if he were to slow down now, the cat would undoubtedly pounce, and they would both fall off the cliff. Thus, he had no other way than to risk it.
Meng Li used all of his energy and actually sped up slightly, making his way towards the cliff. When he was coming closer, a small rock found its’ way under his foot, and at the moment when Meng Li placed his weight on it, the rock catapulted itself from under his foot. With nothing to place his weight on, Meng Li inevitably slipped, and started falling face first. The cat saw its’ opportunity – it pounced forward, aimed down at where Meng Li would fall. Or at least, where it thought Meng Li would fall – what greeted it after Meng Li swung down past where the ground should be, was a bottomless clif…
Meng Li had an expression of glee on his face as he saw the cat fly by him and down the cliff. However, he used his free hand to stab out with his sword into the cat’s underside – while it was in the air, it had no way of maneuvering. The sword smoothly entered the cat’s underside, creating a giant wound in its’ abdomen. However, even with the swords’ sharpness, there was simply no end to slice the flesh of a beast using no strength – the sword was also nearly forced out of Meng Li’s hand. Using all of his strength, he was fortunately able to keep it, but from the way his right hand hurt, he must’ve injured it a bit.
However, Meng Li didn’t care, and simply stared at the cat in glee as it continued its’ graceful arc, flying down the cliff. Mid way, it seemed like its’ innards spilled from the giant wound Meng Li had tore in its’ abdomen, which created quite a beautiful scene. Meng Li even felt like painting it, but he suddenly felt his situation kick in. He was currently hanging off of a cliff edge by one hand, with the hand holding onto the cliff beginning to ache from the strain. When he grabbed the cliff, it took an enormous amount of strength to stop all of his velocity, and he felt like his shoulder had actually popped from the socket. He had to get up the cliff now, and it wasn’t the time to think about painting.
At a perfect time, Meng Li felt a hand grab his forearm. He looked up, and to no surprise, it was Ye Jian. He had came at a perfect time.
Ye Jian grabbed Meng Li, and instead of simply making one motion to throw him on top of the cliff edge, he instead carefully lifted him up and placed him on it. It seemed like he saw the bad state of Meng Li’s hand.
“Hahahaha…” Meng Li couldn’t help but laugh in joy. Even though this ordeal had been scary, it was really fun. Not as fun as painting, but fighting definitely had its’ own charm. Meng Li already liked it, and wanted more.
“So, how was your first fight?” Ye Jian asked with a smile. During this fight, he only made one attack – he was in an excellent shape, unlike Meng Li, who looked like a mess.
“Awesome.” Meng Li replied, still laughing quietly. “But what was that stare? That freaking cat managed to make me freeze for a few seconds in fear.” Meng Li asked Ye Jian.
“It was killing intent. You will naturally gain it through killing.” Ye Jian answered.
“Makes sense… Do you have a killing intent?” he couldn’t help but ask.

“I still should have it…” Ye Jian answered and concentrated for a bit, before emitting a strange aura. When the aura passed over him, Meng Li felt cold all over his body, like he was dumped into a freezing ocean. He couldn’t move – his muscles were all tensed. The fight or flight response didn’t kick in, and he felt like he was going into shock. His mind was suddenly filled with scenes of violent killings, of armies clashing, and scenes of murder. He felt as though he was bathed in a sea of blood in that instant.
In merely a second, Ye Jian retracted the aura after he saw Meng Li’s state. His response was extremely violent, since he wasn’t used to killing. All of his muscles clenched uncontrollably in that moment, and it caused him extreme pain – his left shoulder was still not in its’ normal place.
Meng Li was still covered in cold sweat, slumped on the ground. His heart was beating at a thousand beats a minute, and his mind was still in shock.
“Sorry…” Ye Jian could only awkwardly apologize. He forgot that he was dealing to someone who wasn’t at all used to killing intent.
“Dear god…” Meng Li couldn’t help but swear as he came to. That extremely short moment felt like eternity to him, and he felt like his death was imminent.
“That was terrifying. How many people have you killed?!” Meng Li asked, still shocked.
“Tens of thousands. But that killing intent wasn’t all that I had, it’s less than tenth.” Ye Jian explained with some sadness.
“Less than a tenth!?” Meng Li didn’t know what to focus on. Ye Jian had killed tens of thousands of people in his life?! And yet, that terrifying killing intent was still less than a tenth of the one he had in his previous life?!!? Meng Li felt like the world was joking with him. He managed to calm down only after a few bouts of hysterical chuckling.
“I looked at it a bit more and I can see that you were affected this much simply because my killing intent is extremely pure.” Ye Jian consoled Meng Li, but his own voice contained some confusion. “Also, if your cultivation wasn’t sealed, I wouldn’t be able to affect you this much – you would be able to shake it off in a few dozen seconds.” he continued.
“Maybe it’s so pure because you reincarnated?” Meng Li speculated. He was only making a random guess, simply because he had no idea about what killing intent was.
“Maybe…” Ye Jian replied, still confused. It was a possibility, but he didn’t have enough data to actually be certain. To make sure, he would have to try and reincarnate once again, and he wasn’t about to do that, so he could only place the thought in the back of his mind.
“Anyways, we should get going.” Meng Li said as he slowly rose to try and sit. His left shoulder was hurting like a bitch, and because of Ye Jian’s killing intent, he had tensed all of his muscles, which made setting the shoulder back even harder. However, Meng Li didn’t have a choice. He had done something like this once, so he could do it one more time. He counted to three in his mind, and on three, he used his left hand to quickly set the joint back in its’ socket.
*SNAP*
Meng Li sucked in a cold breath of air through his teeth. It HURT. However, after it was in, the pain quickly receded, until it quickly became simply a dull pain which he could ignore easily. Unfortunately, moving the shoulder would still cause it to flare up – to heal quickly, he would have to unseal his cultivation base. To be able to get to practising faster, Meng Li quickly did so. After his cultivation was unsealed, the already dull pain started decreasing at a quick rate, until it completely disappeared. In merely a few more minutes, his shoulder would be completely fine, and his fighting ability would be back at one hundred percent.
“Hey, could you use your killing intent again?” Meng Li wanted to see the effect cultivation base had on the killing intent’s effect.
Ye Jian didn’t say anything and simply nodded. Meng Li felt the chilling aura emit from him once again. However, this time, he was careful and tried to fortify his mind against it. The killing intent’s effect wasn’t as strong as previously – Meng Li still fell into a daze for several seconds, and his mind was filled with scenes of violent murder, seas of blood and mountains of corpses. But this time, he was able to snap out of the effect in about ten seconds. After he did so, he discovered that his muscles were still unconsciously clenched, and he was trembling all over.
Ye Jian retracted the killing intent when he saw Meng Li snap out of it.
“This… Is an incredibly powerful weapon.” Meng Li remarked. He saw Ye Jian laugh silently, before explaining.
“It’s only because I’ve had such a high cultivation base and killed so many people. At an average, killing intent is only an indication of how much a person has killed, and can only startle weaker minded cultivators, and for stronger ones, it merely causes a small shiver. Only demonic cultivators cultivate and use their killing intent as a weapon.” Ye Jian had some disgust on his face when he mentioned the demonic cultivators.
“How do they use it as a weapon?” With some understanding of killing intent, Meng Li was confused as to how the demonic cultivators could ‘cultivate’ killing intent.
“They kmassacre weaker cultivators, sometimes even mortals, to strengthen their killing intent. Then, they either use it as a mental attack, or use some demonic arts to do something even more sinister. I don’t know much about this – even among demonic cultivators, something like this is quite unorthodox.” Ye Jian explained with disgust visible on his face, and Meng Li knew why after listening to his explanation. Using mortals’ lives in exchange for power? This truly was an extremely vile and evil way of pursuing power.
