Reincarnated Into Destiny Universe - Volume 1 Chapter 11 The Life Kinetic
Isaac and Polter made their way back to the Tower. Isaac decided to give Polter the rest of the day off and come back for the Fallen some other time. He disembarked at the Transmat Bay and walked into the Solar Energy Meditation Chamber. He spent the last couple of hours before noon increasing his Solar Attunement. By the time he got up for lunch, he had managed to activate the second amplifier.
After lunch he came back and spent another hour on his Solar Attunement. He then spent four hours on his Void Attunement and then three hours on his Kinetic Attunement, before going to bed.
The first thing in the morning, Isaac woke up to his normal routine and then spoke to Polter. “So, Polter, are you ready to Rock’n’Roll? I can’t wait, ’til the Hive come home, for you to shape up.”
“Ummm…I’m not really sure what that means but, if you are asking if am I recovered from the shock of yesterday’s events? Then yes. I’ve come to terms with the situation and I’m ready to face whatever the day might bring.”
“Excellent! Then let’s head to the hangar and meet up with the fellas.”
Isaac and Polter arrived in the hangar to see that Daniel and Koren were already speaking amongst themselves, while waiting there waiting for Isaac.
“How’s it going guys? You guys ready to get to grinding on these levels?” Isaac asked.
“Actually, Issac, we wanted to make a request regarding that.” Koren replied.
“A request? About grinding levels? Okay, shoot.”
Koren explained the situation. “Well, whenever we parted ways after our last outing, I contacted Daniel and asked him what he thought of working together to obtain our attunement to Kinetic Energy. Since we are both behind you in terms of competency in LAMP and our attunements, I thought it would be a good idea for us to try and catch up so that we are on more of an even playing field.
“I also thought it would be quicker obtaining our Kinetic Energy Attunement, if one of us generated the force while the other meditated. Sure enough, we tried it and nothing happened that night but the next morning I had received my attunement, before noon, and, by the end of the day, Daniel had received his attunement.
“After discussing it with Daniel, we decided that, given the fact that the fireteam was your idea and you even taught us this amazing movement technique, you’re kind of the natural and obvious leader of this fireteam.
“Considering that we spent the entirety of yesterday just trying to get our attunements, we were wondering if we could spend another day doing actual training and we’re willing to defer to your judgment. Not only because we recognize you as the leader but also because you seem to have a really good understanding of what’s the best path to follow, in regards to training.”
‘Well, now. I certainly wasn’t expecting this. Although, they’re not wrong. I am kind of the obvious pick for team captain, considering everything. I guess I just hadn’t really thought about the hierarchy aspect of forming a fireteam.’_”Well, first of all, I appreciate your confidence in my ability to be the Fireteam Leader, since you’ve both agreed to this I promise I won’t let you down. Secondly, congratulations on obtaining your attunement to Kinetic Energy and Thirdly, I see absolutely no problem with you taking an extra day off for training and, if anything, I recommend it.
“That being said, before you get started I’d like you to accompany me on a short trip. Once we return, you can immediately resume your training. Considering the benefits you could gain from this trip, I think it’s important that we do this first. What do you say?”
“Sure, that seems acceptable but what’s this trip about?” Koren asked.
Isaac moved a little closer, to his teammates, and leaned in. Isaac whispered, “Before I tell you about it you have to swear to me that you’ll never breathe a word of what I’m going to show you to anyone, no matter who it is. This is Top Secret stuff and the only reason that I know about it is because I found it and the only reason I can tell you is because you’re on my fireteam.
“Be warned, however, if you speak a word of this to the higher ups like Zavala, not only will they refuse to speak to you about it and deny all knowledge, there could even be some nasty consequences. I don’t know what but I don’t think you want to find out. With that out of the way, as long as you understand how important keeping what you’re going to see under wraps is, then we can leave immediately. Are you guys good?”
Daniel and Koren looked at each other mouths slightly agape, they turned back to Isaac, and slowly nodded their heads.
“Good then let’s get going.”
The three made their way towards the European Dead Zone and landed in the same place Isaac did before. The three walked towards the shard as Isaac explained the situation.
“You see, this is a shard of the Traveler. Through this shard we can connect directly to the Traveler’s Light. In the event that the Traveler should somehow be targeted or become more damaged than it already is, having a secret refuge that can allow us to directly access the Light would obviously be a huge boon, in assisting us to fight back.
“That’s why it’s so important that this place never be spoken of. If an enemy capable of harming the Traveler were on our doorstep, they would obviously attempt to destroy this shard as well if they knew about it. As long as even a scrap of the Traveler remains there’s hope that it can recover itself and we can once again triumph over its assailant. Do you understand?”
Daniel and Koren had been staring at the Traveler’s shard, with their mouths clearly prepped for fly catching. They nodded their heads, at Isaac’s question, and followed him into the control deck area where the handprint pedestal was.
“Whenever I placed my hand on this console, my body was filled with the Traveler’s Light and I gained two levels in an instant. I don’t know if it’s just me or just two levels but there’s a chance that, if you place your hand on this console, you could receive two instant level ups and it might even raise your level all the way to ten. I’m the only one who’s done it, at this point, so it’s hard to tell. Go ahead, you two. Give it a try.”
Daniel was the first to move. He approached the pedestal and placed his hand into the indentation. The pedestal was emitting a much more brilliant light than previously and it was apparent that Daniel’s body was being flooded with Light. As Daniel removed his hand from the console, he turned to smile broadly at Isaac.
“I…I just reached level ten.”
“Nice! Alright, Koren, you’re up.”
Koren then stepped forward and experienced the same flooding of Light and increase in levels that Daniel had.
“Well, whaddya say? Worth the trip huh?”
“Yes! Absolutely! This is amazing! Thanks a bunch for showing us this Isaac!” Daniel exclaimed.
“This is truly amazing! I never would have guessed that such a wonderful gift would be the reason for this trip. Thank you, very much, Isaac!” Koren added.
“Not a problem. You guys are part of my team after all. That being said, I have to stress, once again, the importance of not speaking about this even to each other. Once we leave here, it’s best if you pretend that you’ve never heard of this place. If I ever want to meet here, I’ll refer to it as ‘the Stadium.’
“It’s already bad enough that the Fallen know about it. They all want the Traveler’s Light for themselves, however, so it’s unlikely they’ll go blabbing to our other enemies. Are we clear on how important secrecy is in this matter?”
“Absolutely!”
“One hundred percent!”
“Good. Then let’s get you guys back to the Tower, so you can continue your training.”
Daniel and Koren made their way back to the Tower and Isaac followed soon after their departure.
“Hey, Polter, did reaching level ten unlock any new potential for you like it did with level five?”
“Actually, after having come to terms with this whole situation, I began thinking about how to best to serve as your ghost. I went through all of the information you showed me and tried to sort out what’s different about this world compared to that game, so that I could maybe fill in the gaps in your knowledge.
“There’s a lot of information, so I’ll just stick to Light mechanics for now. First of all, as I already mentioned, a ghost will be able to provide more assistance the more affinity a Guardian acquires. At level five, I was able to generate shields for you and now that capacity has been upgraded allowing me to generate shields faster as well as enabling faster resurrections and transmats. Also I can now use some of your Light Charge to reduce the affinity cost of resurrection.
“This will be the last upgrade, until level twenty. At that time you will obtain what’s referred to as the Light Body. Then I will be able to resurrect you, using only Light Charge, and you’ll be able to form your own shields and heal your own wounds. There are still twenty levels above the Light Body but acquiring those levels is a different process that I’ll tell you about whenever the time comes. That being said, it’s really good that you guys got your levels to ten. Now would be a good time to pick up another class.”
“A Light Body huh? That’s certainly interesting but I think you’re right about our next class. I’ll find Cayde when we get to the Tower and see if he’ll have time to train me tomorrow.”
Isaac landed in the Transmat Bay and made his way to the command room. Ikora and Zavala were speaking to each other beside the large table in the middle of the room. Cayde was leaning against a wall listening to his teammates conversation. Isaac approached Cayde and made his request.
“Hi there, Cayde. I hope I’m not interrupting anything important. Do you have a minute?”
“Don’t worry about it, kid. Being interrupted is half of our job as Representatives. You guys are typically more important than whatever we’re discussing, so don’t hesitate if you need something. So what’s on your mind? You ready to start walking the path of a Hunter?”
“Actually, I am. I was wondering if tomorrow would be a good time to start? I’ve still got some things to do today.”
“Tomorrow? Sure, just make sure you bring your A-game. I’m not gonna go easy on you just because you’re a fresh meat. Meet me at the Arc Energy Meditation Chamber and I’ll explain the rest from there.”
“Nice! Then I’ll see you there.”
Isaac saw Ikora walking over, after she noticed his conversation with Cayde had concluded.
“Greetings, Isaac. I see your finally starting on your second class. How are things going so far? Did you manage to pull together a fireteam?”
“I did and things are going pretty well. All three of us managed to hit level ten and we’re going to start our second classes tomorrow. Also, I wanted to mention something that I discovered recently. Do you guys know what force powers our jumping abilities and if so can you attune yourself to it, like the other energies?”
“Hmmm…I always just assumed it was some sort of air displacement. I’m not aware of our jump abilities being powered by a specific energy, other than the Light.” Ikora responded.
“Well, I was doing some meditation experiments to see if I could attune myself to the energy that powers our jumps and it took awhile but I finally did it. At the moment, I’m referring to it as Kinetic Energy even though I think it might be some kind of Fundamental Kinetic Energy or Pure Kinetic Energy. I was hoping, that if you guys knew what it was, you could build an attunement chamber for it. Regular meditation works but it’s just not as effective as a dedicated chamber.”
“Isaac, if what you say is true, this could be a huge breakthrough for the entire Guardian community. When you received this attunement, what exactly happened?”
“Well, nothing dramatic, other than being able to output much more force with much less Light and less focus.”
“Really? Could you perhaps demonstrate this increased force for us?”
“Certainly, hey Cayde, can you apply the force of your jump ability to your elbow as you punch?”
“Of course, I can kid. Why? You looking to get punched?”
“Yep, I sure am. How about we try to punch each other’s fist using nothing but the force we generate behind our elbows?”
“Alright, seems simple enough. Let’s do it.”
Isaac and Cayde both aligned themselves and reared back their arms. They counted down and used their jump ability’s force to propel their arms towards each other. Isaac’s fist intercepted Cayde’s and sent his arm flying back from where it came spinning Cayde half way around in the process. Cayde turned back around and gaped at Isaac.
“What the hell? How did you do that?” Cayde asked.
“Like I said earlier, it’s my attunement to Kinetic Energy.”
“Well, Isaac, that certainly was an impressive demonstration. This is a truly exciting discovery. A new type of energy and one that was sitting right under our noses this entire time. It’s almost embarrassing that no one has noticed, until now. Isaac, come with me. You’re idea of setting up a meditation chamber is spot on. But it’s going to take a moment to set everything up.” Ikora directed Isaac, as she walked away from the command room.
Ikora led Isaac into the Tower proper and into a meditation room that didn’t have any symbol marked on the door. Ikora directed Isaac to go into the center of the chamber, while she stayed in the observation room with the primary controls. She spent nearly three hours instructing Isaac to perform various tasks with his Kinetic Energy, while she operated various controls that would presumably allow the machinery in the room to analyze and replicate the energy.
“Alright, Isaac, you can come back up here now. I just need to make a few more adjustments and we’ll see whether or not this worked.”
Isaac returned to the observation room and waited for Ikora to finish. Ikora continued fiddling with the various controls for a few more minutes, before smiling and placing her hand on a lever located on the far right of the console.
“Time for the moment of truth.” Ikora said, as she pulled the lever back and watched the center of the Chamber for any reaction. Soon, in the same space that would normally manifest a minute sun or ball of Void Energy, a bright blue light with streaks of white running through it emerged. It started off as a small amorphous blob that rapidly changed shape. It began to grow quickly, until it reached the size of two beach balls.
Ikora began operating more of the controls trying to keep the blob of energy stable. It looked for a moment like it would become completely unstable and explode but, after a few more minutes of adjustments by Ikora, the energy blob finally stabilized. It was still rapidly and unpredictably changing shape but it was within some clear limits that Ikora had managed to set.
Ikora looked up at Isaac with a smile and said, “Isaac, this is a huge contribution you’ve made to the city. I don’t know what we could do to repay you but, if you have any requests, I’m sure that the Speaker or one of the Vanguard Representatives would be willing to hear you out. So please come to us, if you think of something.
“In the meantime, I’ll speak to Banshee about making sure you receive a free loadout of gear. Armor, weapons, anything that could contribute to a standard Guardian loadout. Also, I’ll see that you get a generous contribution of Glimmer. That’ll have to do for now, I’m afraid. How does that sound?”
“Amazing! Free weapons and armor, a favor, and lots of Glimmer. I’d say that’ll do just fine. I’m assuming, however, that means that this chamber is ready to be used and I can spend the rest of the day here?”
“Haha, absolutely, you can. Since you seem to have your heart set on training, I’ll leave you to it.”
Ikora went back to the command room and updated her teammates on the new development. Isaac went back into the meditation chamber and spent most of the day there. He made sure to leave in time to get in a few runs through the training grounds. After a couple of slow and steady runs through the training ground’s obstacles, he did a quick third run through and then headed into the city to try out a random diner.
While sitting down in front of a bowl of Fettuccine Alfredo with Shrimp, Isaac was thinking about how much of the original flora and fauna of old Earth managed to survive the fall.
“Man I can’t believe they have shrimp and they have Alfredo pasta sauce. This might be a world filled with world shaking dangers but at least they’ve got delicious food to compensate…mmnnnmm.” Isaac began quickly stuffing the pasta into his face.
About halfway through his meal, he remembered something. “Hey, Polter, did you memorize those other three names on that list Ikora gave me?”
“I did. Do you want to contact them?”
“Yeah. Wait, until I finish my dinner, and then we’ll see about those three.”
