Reincarnated Into Destiny Universe - Volume 1 Chapter 13 Fireteam Tactics
“So, Polter, are you able to transmat things directly to the Traveler?”
“You must be referring to the shard. No, once we get ahold of it, we’ll have to transmat it to the ship and fly it back.”
“As I thought. Well, let’s take it back to ‘our shard’ so it doesn’t arouse too much suspicion. I’m not sure how people would respond to us flying directly into the Traveler and having a walkabout.”
“Oh yeah, you’re definitely right about that. Going into the Traveler is not a good idea at all. Our shard would be the best option.”
Isaac and Polter arrived, at the Anchor of Light on the moon, and waited a few short moments for the others to transmat down.
“Alright, now that we’re all here, here’s the plan. As you may have noticed we’re currently just between the Anchor of Light and Archers Line. Ferra, I want you to take your team and clear out Archers Line and my team will clear out Anchor of Light. While you’re there, look for a dome shaped building set upon a hill off to the right side. Go through that building and down the other side of the hill to a door that will lead you into the Hall of Wisdom.
“Before you enter the Hall contact the Vanguard and they should have some mission or another that requires your attention. We’ll do the same, when we reach the Temple of Crota. We may be entering at different locations but, if you keep following the path your ghosts show you, then you should come to the same place we’re going, which is the World’s Grave. Once we meet up at the World’s Grave, we’ll contact the Vanguard once more and see if there’s anything else they need done.
“Obviously, knowing where we were going today, I bothered to ask around for some info on the moon and I’m mostly going off the advice I was given. If we don’t run into anything exciting, we can go somewhere else. So, what do you guys think? Sound like a plan?”
Isaac’s teammates agreed to his plan, hopped onto their sparrows, and started clearing their respective areas. Upon arriving at the door to the Hall, Ferra’s team contacted Ikora and received a mission to defeat a nearby Knight, in order to obtain a key to a library within the World’s Grave.
After clearing the Anchor of Light, Isaac’s team hopped on their own sparrows and headed to the Hellmouth, for some quick scans. After the scans, they sent the information obtained over to the other team along with information regarding Shriekers and then went on to the Temple of Crota.
Isaac’s team, after reaching the Temple of Crota, also contacted Ikora and received a mission to infiltrate the Chamber of Night and stop a ritual that was occurring within. They stood atop the hill, looking down at the sealed door below. When Isaac finished speaking with Ikora, he led his team slowly towards the door.
“Isaac, look. Is that a Guardian?” Daniel asked.
“Yes, it is. Probably the one whose trail we caught wind of in the Anchor.” Isaac replied, as Daniel sent his ghost forward to inspect the Guardian.
“There’s nothing left. Not even the Light. Where is his ghost?…This is really creepy. I don’t like it.” Daniel’s ghost responded.
“Well, the Hive are creepy in general and it doesn’t really matter anyway, because we’ve got a mission to accomplish.” Isaac said, as he turned around to look at the top of the hill behind them. Standing there, with her Pulse Rifle in hand, was the Exo Stranger. Isaac looked at her and pointed his index and middle finger at his eyes and then at her, before turning around again.
“What are you pointing at?” Koren asked, looking where Isaac had been looking and not seeing anything.
“Nothing. Don’t worry about it. Anyways, I know this door is sealed but that doesn’t mean that whatever is inside can’t unseal it. So, be on your guard. If it opens, Koren throw a grenade about a foot in front of the door, Daniel throw yours in between the two halves, and I’ll throw mine just inside. Let one or two enemies through, before the first grenade. Give a three second delay before the second and I’ll give a two second delay on the last. Then post up behind these rocks scatter…”Before Isaac could finish his sentence, they suddenly noticed the seals on the door light up with a green glow. All of the indentations and notches in the door were emitting the same glow.
Once all the seals were lit, the middle seal became brighter than the others for a second before bursting into green ash and scattering to the wind. The other two soon followed suit and the door trembled as it began to slowly open. They could hear the Thralls screeching, from the otherside.
As soon as a space big enough opened up, the Thralls began pouring through. Koren threw his Void Grenade at the designated location, while Isaac and Daniel lit up the four Thralls that managed to get through. Three seconds later, Daniel threw his Solar Grenade in between the two door halves, while Isaac finished off the fourth Thrall and switched fire to the Hive attempting to circ.u.mvent the grenade.
Isaac then threw his own Void Grenade, just inside the door, and immediately resumed firing, on the ones that managed to evade the grenade.
“Daniel, Renegade Rush!” Isaac ordered Daniel to implement a tactic they had practiced recently.
Even though Isaac couldn’t see Daniel’s face right now, he knew he was smiling. Daniel exited from behind cover and, using the LAMP technique, he sped forward, towards the Hive attempting to exit through the door. Drawing his twin Shock Blades, which all three of them carried at this point, he took out two Thralls before reaching the door. He assaulted the Hive on the right side of the door, while Isaac and Koren fired on the left. A handful of Hive and seconds later, they switched sides. Isaac and Koren then shifted their fire to the Acolytes, coming from the caves not far from the door, as Daniel continued his assault.
Daniel pulled out his shotgun and began utilizing his fastest speed to evade their attacks, while blasting them away. He only continued this for about four or five seconds before jumping up and over the Hive’s heads, while turning around mid jump. He targeted the Hive below him, with his hand cannon, as his feet met a pillar on the left. He immediately jumped towards the pillar on the right, while continuing his hand cannon assault.
As Daniel jumped off of the right pillar, he stowed his hand cannon and drew his Shock Blades, while applying a Void Energy cloak over them. Landing in the middle of the Hive, many of whom had shifted all of their attention to him, he held the blades straight out to his side in a T pose. He then utilized the LAMP technique to execute three consecutive 360 degree spins, while moving back towards his teammates.
After the last spin’s landing, he began jumping in a random pattern back to his original cover as Isaac and Koren pushed forward, with their shotguns out and a Void Grenade tossed to each side of the door. Daniel retreated just a bit further and then pulled out his sniper rifle.
At this point, all of the Thralls had been dealt with along with several of the minor Acolytes. Three minor Acolytes remained alongside two of the major Acolytes, who were equipped with Boomers. Two Knights were also remaining but they shouldn’t last too much longer as almost all of the Hive had received some sort of damage, after the Renegade Rush.
Daniel focused on the Hive that were the closest to his teammates but weren’t being targeted by them. His teammates wrecked the three minor Acolytes and then retreated just enough to avoid blows from the swords of the two Knights. Daniel saw one of major Acolytes coming out of cover and attempting to take advantage of the situation. A well timed head shot brought a swift end the bastard.
Seeing that Isaac and Koren had almost defeated their opponents and no more were exiting through the door, Daniel kicked it into overdrive, closed in on the last major Acolyte, unloaded consecutive shotty blasts while evading its fire, and finished it off just a few seconds after Isaac and Koren had brought down the Knights.
“Well, that was fun. Hopefully, we’ll get to do it again before we leave.” Daniel remarked.
“True it was fun and I’m sure we will get to do it again but we’re not finished yet. There are still Hive in that room. We need to clear them out and find this Guardian’s ghost.”
“Right.”
“Ready when you are.”
Isaac led Koren and Daniel into the room, where they cleared out several more Acolytes. They did this while remaining close to the entrance to the room. Once the last Acolyte died, a Major Wizard appeared on the platform opposite where the three were standing. The platform ringed the entire room but was at a higher elevation where the Wizard was located.
“Daniel, Distract and Destroy!” Isaac ordered.
Daniel jumped up and sailed across the gap between their side of the platform and the Wizard’s, all the while blasting it with his shotty. As soon as Daniel was past the Wizard and it turned its back to Isaac, Daniel jumped to the right to avoid the incoming explosion. As soon as Daniel passed the Wizard, Isaac also glided across the gap, while bringing his arms and hands back in classic Ka-me-ha-me-ha fashion, and unleashed a full powered Void Bomb right in that Wizard’s ugly ass face.
Daniel rolled as he landed and then looked towards where he had last seen the Wizard. The Wizard was no more and the only thing he saw was Isaac gliding down and softly landing where the Wizard had once been. ‘Damn! That was badass! I mean I still wanna be a speed demon but maybe I should run Warlock next time and play around with some of the abilities I haven’t used yet.’
Koren glided in right behind Isaac and soon landed next to him, as Isaac walked towards the pedestal at the back of the platform that held the deceased Guardian’s ghost. Polter materialized and scanned the ghost, for the information he already knew would be there.
“I think the Hive were draining the Light from it. It still holds some of it memories, let me see…It appears that the Hive have been building an army here, in preparation for an invasion of Earth. It would seem that this mission is much more important than we originally thought.” Polter informed them.
“That’s a pretty important discovery. We should probably contact the Vanguard and update them, before continuing.” Koren suggested.
“Yes, we should. Let’s get back out in the open, for a clearer signal.” Isaac responded.
Isaac and his team exited through the door they had entered and Koren immediately contacted Ikora, with the news of their discovery. Ikora thanked them, for the update, and asked, if they were good to continue with their original mission.
“Haha! Of course, Ikora, me and my team are just getting warmed up. Don’t worry. Whatever ritual the Hive are performing, they won’t be performing it for long. We’ve got this.” Isaac said towards Koren’s ghost, who was projecting Ikora’s voice.
“Good to hear. Keep me posted and stay safe you three.” Ikora said, as she cut the connection.
The three of them turned to reenter the Temple, when Polter suddenly called them to a halt.
“Wait, someone’s trying to contact us.”
The Exo Stranger took that opportunity to contact them with the Venus coordinates.
“Who the heck was that?” Daniel asked, once the communication ended.
“I don’t know. I couldn’t track the signal but I suspect we’ll find out, if we go to these coordinates. We’ll have to leave that for another time, however. We’ve got a mission to accomplish.” Polter responded.
“Right you are, Polter. Let’s get going.” Isaac ordered.
Isaac’s team headed into the Temple of Crota and made their way towards the Chamber of Night.
———-
Ferra’s team cleared out the Archers Line and then went through the domed building that Isaac told them about. Coming out the other side of the building they could see the door at the bottom of the hill. Ferra contacted Ikora, received their mission, and then made their way into the Hall of Wisdom, after defeating a couple of Major Knights outside the entrance.
Her team worked their way down through the Hall into the Circle of Bones and smashed their way through a Hive assault, using the Focused Fire strategy that Isaac had told them about. They moved forward as a single unit, not conceding a single bit of ground to the enemy. They kept track of the type of enemies around them and shot down weaker enemies individually to maximize their killing potential. When a stronger enemy approached they would all shift fire to that enemy and bring it down quickly.
If a strong enemy was closing in and weaker enemies were closer, Laurel and Bravo would take out the weakest, while Ferra would try to stall the strongest until the others were dealt with. This strategy also implemented only weapons, until such a time that it wasn’t enough. If it looked like the Focused Fire strategy was about to fail, then and only then would they use their abilities to compensate and keep the strategy in play.
After clearing out the Hive assault, Ferra’s team made their way towards a circular enclosure with several pillars positioned within. Inside the enclosure they could see the Major Knight that held the keys to the World’s Grave library.
Upon fully entering the enclosure, the three immediately locked down the Knight with three accurately triangulated Void Grenades. There were eight Acolytes in the enclosure with the Knight and so they used this opportunity to clear them out, before dealing with the Knight. They didn’t waste time trying to wait for them to come out of cover. The three that weren’t in cover died almost instantly. The three then quickly closed in on the remaining five Acolytes and killed them all.
The last Acolyte went down just a second after the Void Grenades lost their effect. The Knight, recognizing the danger it was in, rushed towards Laurel, the closest of the three, and swung his massive sword at her. Laurel, having no intention of getting away with it, pulled out her shotty and sidestepped the blade. The other two arrived at this time and the three of them unleashed a powerful assault of shotty blasts and melee attacks. The Knight unleashed a final cry of despair and crumbled into a million little bits of chitinous confetti.
Ferra managed to find the key in the pile of rubble that was the Knight’s corpse. With the key in hand, they entered the World’s Grave and followed their ghosts instructions, until they arrived in a room where the occupying Hive were kneeling around a circular pillar.
Seeing the Hive in this inert state of worship, Ferra took the time to rest and plan their next move.
“Alright, keep low and keep quiet. It doesn’t look like they’ve noticed us. It looks like we’ve got three Knights, six Acolytes, and a dozen Thralls. Any ideas on how we should proceed?”
“I think we should take out the three Knights simultaneously, with Golden Gun shots, and grenade the Thralls at the same time. Grenade in one hand Golden Gun in the other. Then we Focus Fire the rest.” Bravo suggested.
“I like that idea but alternatively we could do a three way Renegade Rush after the grenades and just slaughter them with overwhelming speed and skill.” Laurel added.
“Now that’s what I’m talking about. Let’s do it her way.” Bravo agreed.
“Haha, I’m glad I asked. That does indeed sound like quite the party. Alright then, on three…one…two…three.” Ferra quietly and happily agreed before drawing her Golden Gun and conjuring a Solar Grenade.
The three Knights were instantly executed, while all but three of the Thralls behind them were getting burned to ashes. Three on three were quiet unfavourable conditions for the Thralls and so they quickly succ.u.mbed to the fireteam’s precision marksmanship. The fireteam was closing in on the Acolytes, as they took down the last three Thralls, and they continued to do so, overtaking them with their speed and ending them with head shots.
With the room now clear, Ferra sent her ghost out to analyze the pillar/library. “Let’s see…Ummm…this isn’t good. Nope, not good at all. According to these records, the Hive have seen hundreds of worlds fall to the darkness and they’re currently waiting for their gods to return, so they can invade Earth. I definitely think we should report this as soon as possible.” Ferra’s ghost informed them.
“What the hell? Waiting for their gods to return? Holy shit, can we fight against gods? Dammit, I’m getting distracted. You’re right. First things…” Ferra didn’t get to finish her sentence, as she was interrupted by the collective screeching of numerous Thralls.
The fireteam got into position, while opening fire on the incoming Thralls. They used the pillar for cover this time, evading incoming fire and taking out the Hive at range. After destroying several Thralls and Exploder Thralls, another wave of Thralls and Acolytes rushed in, while more Exploding Thralls spawned from a semicircular pool of black liquid in the center of the room.
“Knight, up top!” Ferra signaled that she had spotted a Knight for them to Focus Fire on. The three downed the Knight in a matter of seconds. As soon as they started firing on the Knight, however, three more came from within the shadowy corridors connecting to the room.
“Renegade Rush!” Ferra ordered, as soon as the Knight went down and she saw the escort of Acolytes accompanying the three new Knights.
Laurel and Bravo rushed forward, one to the left the other to the right. Utilizing their Shock Blades cloaked with Void Energy and superior speed, they slashed their way through the Thralls and Acolytes and converged on two of the approaching Knights. Planting Solar Grenades on the Knights, they were obliterated as Laurel and Bravo glided back towards Ferra.
Ferra had been taking out the last remaining Acolytes and Thralls as the third Captain closed in on her. Leaping away from the Knight’s sword attack, she landed the final shot on the final Acolyte. With the Thralls and Acolytes dead, she shifted fire to the Knight and baited his attack. As the Knight swung his sword at her once more, she sidestepped to his right. At the same time, Laurel arrived on its Left side and Bravo at its back. The three of them issued forth simultaneous Solar Melee attacks and immediately swapped to their shotties to finish him off.
“Nice! That was exciting! I wonder if Isaac’s team are having this much fun?” Laurel pondered.
“Had to say but we can just ask them whenever they arrive. This is the World’s Grave. It’s where we’re supposed to meet. That being said, I really need to relay this information to the Vanguard. Ghost, put me in contact with Ikora.” Ferra commanded.
Ferra updated Ikora on their situation and then contacted Isaac to get an ETA. Isaac informed her that they were very nearly at the World’s Grave and should be there in less than five minutes. He also gave her the location of the Chamber of Night and asked her team to scout the area.
“Alright, listen up. This is the situation. Isaac and his team are less than five minutes away and they want us to scout the Chamber of Night and surrounding area, until they arrive. It looks like we’ve wrapped things up here, so let’s get to it.”
