(Day 144)
“Actually, Eris, isn’t Omnigul still roaming about here somewhere. Why don’t me and my fireteam head towards the moon and Fireteam Ferra can stay here and deal with Omnigul? Assuming that you know where to find her that is.”
“Yes, I know where to find Omnigul. She is indeed a crucial component in Crota’s schemes. As long as she lives, the threat of Crota’s return will linger. Very well, Ferra is it? Go to the coordinates I’m sending you. Isaac, I’ll speak with you when you reach the Temple.”
———-
Fireteam Ferra were making their way towards the Terrestrial Complex, when Eris contacted them once again, via Ikora. “Before you can face Omnigul, you need to eliminate those who carry out her commands, only then will she be forced to make a stand. Seek out the Eyes, Heart, and Hand of Crota. Eliminate them and Omnigul will reveal herself.”
“Got it! Let’s get to it, team!” Ferra responded.
The three of them worked their way around the Old Russia ruins taking out Crota’s minions. Once they had eliminated all three, Eris sent them into the Jovian Complex to finally face off against Omnigul herself.
Ferra had first thought of using her Void Bomb, remaining static in the air, to provide Void Shields to her teammates, connecting to them like the tethers of a Shadow Shot. At the time, however, she wasn’t able to pull it off and thus ended up creating the Scatter Bomb.
At this point, she was well past being able to create the Void Shield Core and had actually decided that such a thing should probably be supplementary to the hybrid class she was working on. She had witnessed Koren’s Ward of Destruction and also had taken notice of the static Solar Shields deployed by the Cabal in Isaac’s memories.
After considering all these things, it occurred to her that the best option for her Titan/Warlock Hybrid would be a Ward of Incineration. Koren’s Ward of Destruction couldn’t allow teammates inside as it would harm them as well. It also tended to expire much quicker than his Ward of Dawn. Allowing his teammates to be enveloped by his Ward without harming them was his last hang up in perfecting the ability. Luckily, Ferra had handed him the answer in the form of a Light Soul.
Ferra had also taken inspiration from the Arc Souls, utilized by the Stormcaller Subclass. Once she had crafted her Light Wielder’s organ, she had set to trying to create a Light Soul that would hover next to a Guardian, granting it certain benefits like the Arc Soul. The purpose of these Light Souls would be to grant one time protection to a Guardian from the destructive nature of her Ward of Incineration. Once inside the Ward of Incineration, the Light Soul would transform into a Solar Soul and cause any one pure Kinetic Energy Ability to become infused with Solar Energy and able to pass through the Ward.
The Ward itself would automatically apply Solar energy to outgoing projectiles and would also intercept incoming projectiles and set aflame enemies who attacked it physically. It looked similar to the Solar Shield Dome surrounding the Cabal’s Injection Rig, only being composed of Hexagonal sections and those sections being formed as a series of concentric Hexagonal rings. This was the Solarium.
This was Ferra’s Hybrid Titan Subclass, the Solar Well Titan. This Subclass’ grenade was a half sized version of the Hammer of Sol and the melee ability was a three meter Solar Chainwhip. The Chainwhip had a duration similar to her grenades and could be wrapped around enemies to incapacitate them. This was all of the raw power of a full fledged Warlock put to the task of a Titan.
As soon as the locked door to Omnigul’s little hideout had been opened, Fireteam Ferra made their way inside, located Omnigul, and immediately went into Dawnblade Mode. All three unleashed a constant barrage of Solar Slashes towards Omnigul as they flew, on fiery wings, towards her and over her minions.
They were currently deep underground in a facility that was half building and half cave, many of its structures weathered beyond repair. This cave like room inclined upwards and to the left of where they engaged Omnigul. It was the top of this incline that Omnigul quickly fled to, under the team’s frightening assault and also the place where the cave once more became a building.
The three flew on their Solar Wings towards the fleeing Omnigul and landed directly beneath her, while blasting her with their shotguns. Ferra hit the ground first and immediately threw out a Solarium. The three continued pouring shotty fire into Omnigul’s face, until she retreated once again.
As Omnigul fled, she summoned another massive wave Hive minions, far more than what Isaac’s memories depicted. There were Wizards, Ogres, Knights, and even a Shrieker amongst the usual characters. The team focused fire on the Shrieker first and then switched focus to the Ogres. With the Ogres down, they began dealing with the total of ten Wizards that had been summoned.
As the Solarium finally dissipated, the team immediately dispersed. There were still four Wizards left, at that moment, and so each of them rushed towards a different Wizard. Laurel and Bravo both began dealing with the Knights, after downing their Wizards. Ferra, however, went to dispatch the last Wizard and began clearing out the Thrall and Acolytes.
With the remains of Omnigul’s minions now spread all over the floor, the team moved into the hallway at the top of the incline and headed left towards Omnigul’s location.
As soon as they arrived inside the hallway, that ominous atmosphere, indicating the establishment of a Darkness Zone, fell upon them once again. They quickly arrived in a room with several server farm looking machine pillars, consoles of various sorts lining the walls, and even stairs leading to a platform across the back wall, which had an extension running through the middle of the room. The middle extension served a bridgelike function and could be walked under or over.
The three of them Focused Fire their way onto the middle platform extension, where Omnigul was waiting for them. Before they reached the bridge-like platform, Ferra threw out a Void Shield Core and Bravo and Laurel went ahead of her. Bravo and Laurel were instantly covered in Void Shield Energy, by the tethers stretching from the Core above them, as they rushed towards Omnigul.
Ferra landed on the bridge and released a Solarium, as Bravo and Laurel each grabbed one of Omnigul’s arms and brought them back behind her. They twisted her arms behind her back and placed her own palms on her back to prevent her from using her Arc attacks. Ferra went into Dawnblade Mode and began sending Solar Slashes alternately into each of Omnigul’s shoulders, as the surrounding Hive pointlessly assaulted her Solarium.
After several slashes managed to deal visible damage to Omnigul’s shoulders, Ferra sent more Light into her Dawnblade and tripled its size. She conjured a Light Soul and flew towards Omnigul. Landing two powerful blows directly with her Dawnblade, she sliced Omnigul’s arms clean off, with Bravo and Laurel pulling them from the back.
Laurel then grabbed hold of Omnigul’s horns, as Bravo took both the arms and began beating back the Hive, who were invading the bridge platform. Laurel held Omnigul’s head back and wrapped her legs around her torso, exposing her neck to Ferra’s next attack. Bravo, while beating back the Hive, made his way behind Ferra and entered Dawnblade Mode.
Ferra pulled her massive Dawnblade back and slashed at Omnigul’s throat and then Bravo came up and made his own slash. The two of them then slashed at Omnigul’s neck simultaneously in a scissor-like attack, separating Omnigul’s head completely from her body.
Laurel, now free from her hand and head holding responsibilities, joined her teammates in cleaning up the rest of those far less threatening Hive.
———-
As soon as Fireteam Isaac had landed near the Helmouth, Isaac signaled to Daniel. Daniel quietly left the two of them there and had OneShot guide him towards the ritual sight, where he could find Banuk Ur Prince.
“Alright, Eris, give us just a second. We’ll be at the Temple of Crota in no time.” Isaac said, as he and Koren headed back to Anchor of Light.
The two murdered their way into the Temple, past the World’s Grave, and into the Chamber of Night.
———-
Daniel danced in and out of Banuk’s attacks, as the Hive Knight roared at him furiously. The purple Void Flames were quickly eating away at Banuk’s body and each of Daniel’s attacks only fed those flames, keeping them burning even longer.
Daniel slashed at Banuk’s right shoulder, dashed away, and then back towards the Knight, before slashing at his left leg.
Daniel was getting closer and closer to his dream of being Speed Demon Guardian. At this point in his development, his speed was truly at a different level. Just as Koren’s strength easily outstripped everyone else among the six of them, so too did Daniel’s speed.
After increasing his dexterity and sharpening his reaction times, he was very nearly capable of utilizing his full potential speed. The method of using precisely positioned vortices that were then angled in just the right way to achieve maximum propulsion and maneuverability he referred to as the Motile Vortex Pathing (MVP) technique.
Daniel sent out one more slash with his recently acquired Exotic Twin Blades and watched as the Knight fell to one knee and then onto his side, as the rest of his body was burned to ashes.
Daniel had been quite taken with Isaac’s Twin Dark Blades and resolved himself to acquire a pair of his own. He had asked Banshee to replicate them aesthetically but to put most of their power into providing already applied Void Flames with more energy to keep them burning.
“Well, that’s one down and three to go. You ready for the next one?” OneShot asked Daniel.
“Ha, I was resurrected ready.”
“Hmmm…really? That’s not the way I remember it.”
“Well, I mean it didn’t take me too long to recover from that. Besides, how is someone supposed to be ready immediately after being resurrected with no memories, anyway?”
“Hey, you said it not me. Anyway, we should probably get going. The others are waiting on us.”
“Right, let’s do it then.”
———-
It seemed that Isaac and Koren had arrived at the summoning ritual a bit early, since there wasn’t any Hive wizardry going on. There were Wizards in the ritual room they just seemed to be in the preparatory stages of things.
“Hmmm…maybe we should wait, until they actually start the ritual so we can catch them off guard?” Isaac suggested.
“NO! You’re so close! The Hive cannot be allowed to summon Crota’s soul!”
“Okay! I got it, Eris! No one is suggesting we let them complete the ritual. I just want to let them start it, so that the Wizard’s attention is wrapped up in the ritual and not us.”
“I agree with Isaac. I think catching them off guard, while they’re focused on the ritual, is the best option.” Koren added.
“Fine! Do as you please but don’t blame me if your plan doesn’t go as intended!” Eris begrudgingly relented.
“Right. Got it. No one will blame you, Eris. I promise.” Isaac responded.
Isaac and Koren hunkered down outside the ritual room not too far from the corpse of the Ogre they had recently defeated. They didn’t actually have any problem starting immediately but they wanted to give Daniel as much time as possible to catch up with them.
Approximately ten minutes later, the Wizard’s screams signaled the starting of the ritual. Daniel hadn’t yet arrived but they couldn’t delay it any longer. They both jumped into action by taking out the kneeling Knights, with Golden Gun shots calibrated to deal just enough BUDs to one shot them.
With the Knights out of the way, Isaac took this moment to unleash his new ability, even though Daniel wouldn’t be there to make the most of it. Having been inspired by Ferra’s Void Scatter Bomb, Isaac had configured his Void Bomb to be a blob of still Void Energy, with all of its potential pent up inside.
This blob of Void Energy, having stopped midair, then released a barrage of mini blobs in all directions below it. Every enemy that it touched was instantly set aflame, with Void Fire. In less than three seconds the entire blob was spent and a sea of Void Flames roared before them, turning nearly all the Hive present into a carpet of ashes.
Not long afterwards, the massive green glowing crystal, in the middle of the room containing Crota’s soul, began quivering as it rose up out of the ground. Isaac and Koren both stood a safe distance away strafing circles around it and firing their Golden Guns.
Since nothing unexpected had happened yet and Daniel still wasn’t present, the two weren’t really giving it their all. Nearly a minute and a half after they began their assault on the Crota Crystal, they could hear someone yelling near the ritual room’s entrance.
———-
By wrapping the Sword of Crota in a Void Flame Cloak, Daniel had been able to quite easily slice those Swarm Princes into minced not even meat.
After dispatching them, Daniel immediately rushed through the Helmouth’s corridors towards his teammates at top speed. Isaac had shown him some scenes from his past life with some cool sayings and phrases. He had liked the Geronimo thing but it lost its appeal after a few times.
He had been thinking about those scenes and that time Isaac had obliterated that Hive Wizard, when they first entered the Temple of Crota. He was pretty close to the ritual room now, even though he couldn’t yet see inside.
Daniel, while continuing to run forward, brought of his hands over to the middle of his right side and began visualizing the double stuffed Void Bomb in his mind.
“KA-…
ME-…
HA-…
ME-…”
As soon as the interior of the ritual room was revealed and he saw the Crota Crystal hovering in front of his teammates, a gleeful glint appeared in his eyes along with a childlike grin.
———-
As soon as Isaac heard the screaming, he began smiling. He didn’t stop strafing but he and Koren both stopped firing and looked towards the entrance. Daniel soon appeared in the entrance, with a crazy grin spread across his face.
In less than a second after he appeared, “HAAAAAAAA!” Daniel screamed, as he sent forth a massive Void Bomb that quickly crossed the distance between them, smashed into the Crota Crystal, and resulted in a massive and beautiful explosion of purple energy and green shards.
The three of them just stood there for a few seconds, admiring the aftermath of the collision. It didn’t take long for Isaac to come around, however, and he immediately congratulated Daniel on a performance well done.
“Hahahahah, hell yeah! Now that’s what I’m talking about! That was f.u.c.k.i.n.g fire, bruh! F.u.c.k.i.n.g Void Fire!” Isaac exclaimed.
“I know right! So sick! Dammit, we need another Crota Crystal. I wanna go again.” Daniel regretted.
———-
Eris was stunned, by frivolity displayed by this group of Guardians when confronting a presence such as Crota and his minions.
Part of her want eagerly to congratulate them for their deeds and Thank them for avenging the deaths of her teammates. Another part of her, however, wanted to scream at them for being so foolishly brazen and easygoing in such dire circ.u.mstances.
She quickly realized, however, that the circ.u.mstances weren’t truly dire at all, when it came to that bunch. They were the most impressive group of Guardians she had ever witnessed.
Despite not actually being able to see them through the comms device, she knew what they were up against and the swiftness of their victory made it easy to imagine what had happened.
With these thoughts in mind, Eris, for the first time in decades, softly smiled as she disconnected and approached Ikora.
“Ikora, you’re truly blessed to have such talented Guardians under your command. They’ve surpassed all of my expectations and then some. Be warned, however, that Crota still lives and he waits within his Ascendant Realm for the day his minions will succeed in resurrecting him.
“Tell your Guardians that, if they are ready and if they are willing to deal with the consequences of their actions, I’ll gladly lead guide them to that Ascendant Realm so that they might strike at Crota’s heart and bring a permanent end to his abominable existence.”
After saying these words, Eris left Ikora standing there completely dumbfounded. ‘Was…she…smiling. I’m certain. It was there. Only barely but it was there. How could I not notice after witnessing that scowl so many times. My God! What is the world coming to?! Eris Morn just barely smiled!’ Ikora dazedly, as Eris’ figure disappeared around the corner.
