Reincarnated Legendary Contract Killer - Chapter 41 Arthur Aniston
Before entering a room in the infirmary, Reed looked at the room number and the name below it. The room number was 015 and the name below it was Lillian Myers. As Reed looked at and let out a sigh and entered the room.
In the room was Lillian who laying on a bed next to the window, connected to a heart monitor and an IV drip. Next to her was a table with a vase of red roses that looked fresh on it and on a chair, Conor stared at her with an unemotional face. The sun light shining on her face piercing through the window gave Lillian a peaceful and solemn look. It gave the illusion that Lillian was never shot in the first and was just resting in the bed due to lack of energy.
However, reality stated otherwise. Reed entered the room but he didn’t dare take a step further. He didn’t know how to proceed nor did he know how Conor would react this time. Reed was just terrible when it came to situations like this. When Conor first saw his wife leg’s had a vicious looking hole in it. He was scared but hearing that she would be fine, Conor’s emotions turned for the better. It was short lived however, as Conor was soon told that Lillian was in a coma and the doctors didn’t know when she would wake up. She could wake up today or the next, no one new.
Without turning back to look at Reed, Conor said, “You know, the reason I became a soldier in the first place is because I wanted to protect her you know. All I wanted to give her was a peaceful and happy life. I wanted to give her everything she wanted in life. However, not only did I not protect her, she even got treated to such a deplorable state as a hostage, and now look at her. A gun shot wound to the thigh combined with a coma.
“I’m sorry,” Reed said with regret.
“No it’s not you fault,”Conor shook his head. ” Though you broke the promise to bring Lillian back safely, I don’t blame you one bit. You saved her from that hellhole, something I could’ve never done. So why should I blame you in the first place. It’s my fault I feel like this. I was so happy when I heard she was rescued and was recuperating in the infirmary.”
“I left and bought her favorite flowers which were red roses and placed them in the vase. So when she wakes up, not only would she me, she would be able to sniff the roses which she always does when she finds one. However that happiness and hope that accumulated as time passed, became the very hole I dug myself to jump in.
Tears started to leak from Conor’s eyes, creating a small pool of water as it dropped to the floor. After a minute of crying, Conor shouted in rage, “God damn it!” With a fist full of fury, Conor smashed the armrest of the chair, causing the shape of it to form in to the outline of the fist.
Just when Reed was about to run over to Conor to prevent him to cause anymore damage, Conor looked at him, “I’m fine, I just needed to punch something to relieve myself of the pent of anger built up inside of me.”
Seeing the calm eyes of Conor, Reed figured that Conor was fine and walked towards him. When Reed stood by Conor who was now sitting back in his seat with the warped armrest, he then patted his shoulder and said, “I have a feeling that you won’t have to wait long for her to wake up.”
Conor turned his head up to look at Reed. ” Why do you say that?”
” Because why would your wife not want to see the husband she loves once again. The way you talked about Lillian, it shows how much you really love her, and I’m pretty sure she loves you back as much or maybe even more. Reed turned his head to look at Lillian. “I’m pretty sure right now, she’s fighting all she has to wake up. So don’t lose hope.”
A moment of silence past as Conor then had a light laugh come out of him. ” To think that one day I would be cheered up by a fourteen year old boy. Reed how old are you really?”
Conor’s question shook Reed for a split second before calming down, not gaining Conor’s notice. ” What do you mean?” Reed replied back.
“Well, even though you’re fourteen, you’re demeanor and your aura is that of someone past the age of fourteen. From what I can tell, you’re level of experience is someone who is in their mid twenties.”
” It’s because I’m the only heir of the Aniston Family. With the responsibilities that entail with the role, head of the Aniston Family. I have to learn and mature quicker compared to those of my age. If I don’t, then the Aniston Family might fall to shambles in my hands. Which is the last thing I want to see.”
“The Aniston Family huh,” Conor nodded his head. “Being the protectors of the nation, of course the responsibilities that entail being the head must be huge. Of course you would have to grow up quickly.”
“You know what the Aniston Family does?!” Reed looked at Conor in shock. Though Reed wasn’t sure if what the Aniston Family does was known to a lot of people, he believed that only a small amount of people knew of what the Aniston’s Family does.
“Yes,” Conor nodded his head. ” When I was deployed for a mission along with my team, we were assigned to work with a member of the Aniston Family. Due to the mission lasting over more than a week, I was able to acquaint myself with him. Through him I was able to learn the responsibilities of the Aniston Family.
“Another thing I learned from him was that the Aniston Family has all of their people train themselves in cultivation very deeply. At first I didn’t understand why since with today’s technology, a good shot with a gun to a vital organ in the human body could instantly kill them. It’s not like the past where humans would fight each other with swords and wear heavy armor to protect themselves.
” The reason we cultivate till this day is due to it being a tradition that has been passed down for centuries and the only places you would see people use their powers of a cultivator, are at friendly tournaments. That’s what I thought about cultivation until he did something which completely dumbfounded everyone and changed my opinion on cultivation and those who cultivated.”
Reed’s brow rose as his interest was peaked, “What did he do to dumbfound you?”
“He caught a bullet with his fingers. It was honestly the most insane thing I ever saw. If I knew cultivating could give you abilities like that, I wouldn’t have stopped,” Conor chuckled. “He then explained that only those at the rank of Platinum could use the world’s power.”
In the past life, Reed has never heard of a power called the world’s power. However, in that same life as well, he only got as far as Gold 5. So he understood why he never heard of such power even if it did exist in his past life’s world.
Just when Reed was going to ask what the world’s power is, Conor shot him down saying, “Don’t even ask me what the world’s power is. I asked and couldn’t even understand a single bit.”
“Well do you know the first name of the Aniston?” Reed asked.
“His name was, Arthur Aniston.” Even though it has been a few years, Conor still remembered his name.
“Arthur Aniston, is he another uncle?” Reed thought to himself for a second before moving on.
“So what is your other reason for coming here? I’m pretty sure you coming here is not only to check on how we are doing.” Conor finally asked for Reed’s real purpose for coming.
