Reincarnation: I Am The Boss - chapter 30
Both the pursued and the pursuer quickly left HundredLivesAsMan’s sight.
DeepSea was following Mohai closely. When FireWolf was only a dozen meters away, she sharply noticed Mohai toss a small red stone into the magma crevice ahead of him.
Mohai then stopped after he ran past that particular crevice, so DeepSea also halted. He glanced over at her position and said, “Come closer and stand to my left.”
With a nod, she subtly moved to his left.
“Are you done running? Damn it! This is a waste of time!” FireWolf and the ten elites stopped and stared at the two of them.
The two of them were not quick at all, so FireWolf thought he could chase them down quickly. However, the two of them used the magma crevices to their advantage and delayed FireWolf and his team for a while.
Even if FireWolf killed the two of them now, he was not sure whether he could make it back to witness the battle with Bovella’s clone or not.
‘So, this is the rumored the Elemental Tower. It’s better meeting them in person than to listen to the rumors,’ Mohai exclaimed in his heart while he looked at FireWolf and his team, waiting for them to make a move.
The other players claimed that the Elemental Tower was mysterious and always kept a low profile, but in the end, Mohai realized that the latter was no different from other guilds. He had to give it to the Elemental Tower for manipulating their image in front of the public.
It was not exactly strange though since the players made up the guild and some of them were unlike the majority. Nevertheless, if the number was substantial enough, the difference would be less noticeable.
Of course, Mohai was still quite curious about the higher-ups of the Elemental Tower. Creating a mysterious and low profile image in front of the public could not be done overnight after all.
“Kill them!” FireWolf and his team skipped the chatter and charged towards Mohai and DeepSea as he wished to return to the main party as soon as possible.
‘3…2…1!’ Mohai was counting in his heart as he watched FireWolf and his men charge towards him.
Kaboom! A loud explosion went off when Mohai got to 1.
The magma crevice on Mohai’s left exploded and bursting flames spewed out following the bang. As a result, FireWolf and his team were caught by the spewing flames and lava.
“What the hell!?” Shocked, FireWolf and his team wanted to retreat right away, but the blazing flames were fierce. Before they could draw an effective distance away from the flames, they were engulfed whole.
Damage counters of 800 popped up above each of their heads, and 11 of them were wiped out instantly.
The flames and lava blanketed the tiny area but stopped right in front of Mohai’s feet.
When DeepSea saw the flames die off as the lava cool down, she could not help but size Mohai up again.
The spot she had been standing in earlier was within the attack range of the flames, yet the bandit leader had anticipated it. His calculation was much more accurate than the top players in the game. Could he be a monster who had achieved the self-thinking ability? Even though he was just a low-level Elite, how was he able to perform this well?
Having the Heart Of Nature did not mean that the player could simply form a contract with any monster. Besides some special mission-only monsters and some NPCs on the monsters’ side, only Boss-level monsters or non-Boss-level monsters who had achieved the self-thinking ability could be engaged.
Mohai’s action of killing the previous bandit leader and robbing Square clean were signs of the self-thinking ability. That was the reason why DemonMarshal and DeepSea approached him and not the other bandit leaders.
“What is that red stone?” asked DeepSea.
The bandit leader’s performance could no longer be measured using the regular standards of monsters in the game anymore. It was safe to say that he was smarter than the players and DeepSea believed he knew what she was talking about.
“Do you wanna know?” Mohai hid his gaze under his hood as he sized her up. The time he spent together with DeepSea reminded him of his past. Back then, she would also ask him about some uncommon information about the game.
“Yes.” DeepSea nodded, really wanting to know.
“I’m not telling you.” Mohai turned around and strode forward.
“I…” DeepSea’s mature and elegant cover faded as her face was filled with astonishment. It was obvious that she did not expect Mohai to answer her as such.
Under his hood, Mohai’s eyes looked asquint at DeepSea and he felt a thrill from teasing her.
In the past life, whenever they were together, he would occasionally tease her like this, and she would react with a grumpy and embarrassed look, which seemed fresh to Mohai back then.
However, it was impossible for her to show that side in front of anyone else. She would only show that rare side when she lowered her guard towards someone.
DeepSea did not give up. She walked up to Mohai and tried to persuade him, “Come on. If you tell me, I might be able to benefit from it and we can work together again in the future. Maybe you will also benefit from it.”
“Fine. It’s a fossil egg of the flaming bird,” answered Mohai as if he finally gave in to her.
“Fossil egg of the flaming bird?” DeepSea frowned, having never heard of the item before.
“Yeah. You Adventurers are able to dig up different fossil eggs while mining and the fossil egg of the flaming bird is one of the lower-level ones. It’s only for collection purposes, but after fulfilling certain requirements, it can be used in other ways,” he answered with a nod.
There was a small chance for the players to acquire a fossil egg during mining. The description of the fossil egg labeled it as a collectors’ item, so by handing it to the museum in the city, the player could start a collection of fossil eggs.
There were many types of fossil eggs, and with every tier that was unlocked, the player could receive different rewards for completing the collection.
The reward for the first stage of completion was random equipment or gear. If a player was lucky, he could get something good out of it. However, if the player was unlucky, the random equipment could only be sold to an NPC.
However, when a player collected a hundred types of fossil eggs, he would be able to receive a precious reward of 10 skill points.
Therefore, collecting fossil eggs was something all the veteran players would do in their past lives. Some rare fossil eggs could fetch an expensive price on the market and it could skyrocket during a certain special period.
At first, the players thought that fossil eggs were only used to start the collection at the museum, but then some players accidentally discovered that they had other kinds of use after having tested it many times.
The flaming bird’s fossil egg was one of such identified ones. It was not rare and was obtainable even with the lowest mining skill although its usage was very limited as well. After throwing it into high heat for 10 seconds, it would cause an explosion of a 20-meter radius. However, the explosion could only inflict a fixed 800 HP damage.
Having killed thousands of players in the past two days, Mohai got one from one of the players. Since the Magma Zone was not far away from the Monolith Stronghold, he kept it for emergencies.
“Are there any more fossil eggs that have special uses?” DeepSea asked.
“I only know about the flaming bird’s fossil egg” Mohai shook his head. The best the flaming bird’s fossil egg could do was kill players around Level 10, so it was really not that useful.
Of course, he knew there were other fossil eggs with better use, but he did not want to help DeepSea too much. He just wanted her to know that there were other uses for the fossil egg and that she could keep a few rare ones with her just for emergencies.
DeepSea nodded, not doubting Mohai at all. After all, he was just a low-level Elite, so it would be strange if he knew.
…
“What? You guys were wiped out? How?”
A rather old manor appeared in front of the Elemental Tower’s main party. It was none other than Bovella Manor.
However, StreetRoamingRat was stunned when he saw FireWolf’s PM.
“We don’t know what happened either. We were wiped out before we could even get close.”
FireWolf smiled bitterly. He admitted his carelessness, but no matter how careful he had been back then, he and his team could not escape death.
“I got it. Run to your bodies and resurrect. If you see anyone from Playboy resurrecting, keep them busy and stall them as long as you can,” said StreetRoamingRat after he heard about FireWolf’s team being wiped out.
He then turned around to HundredLivesAsMan and told him what happened. He wanted to know what he thought of this.
FireWolf died a strange death. According to him, the killer move that wiped his party out could instantly wipe out 20 to 30 players at once. That was enough to intimidate the Elemental Tower.
The Elemental Tower only had more than 150 players and 800 HP damage could kill anyone with a touch.
“He should be using some special items though he probably has limited amounts of it. Judging from FireWolf’s situation, this special item must’ve been prepared beforehand. Hehe, just let him come. If he can wipe us out, he’s more than welcome to take the Bovella Fire Stone away,” HundredLivesAsMan challenged boldly after a simple analysis of the situation. His eyes were gleaming sharply.
“Okay then, let’s get prepared!” StreetRoamingRat did not have any objections either since delaying the entire party for two people did not seem like a logical move.
The party did not stop and they just marched forward. A Warrior then stepped up to push the Bovella Manor gate open.
It was at that point that a group of fiery clones appeared inside the old and quiet manor!
…
“Where are we going?”
Bovella Manor was right in front of them and DeepSea already spotted flashes of skills being executed.
However, Mohai did not venture forward. Instead, he walked to the side.
“We are no match for them if we head straight into the manor. There is an escape route under Bovella Manor. We can go in from there,” he said succinctly.
The underground escape route in Bovella Manor was no secret. If HundredLivesAsMan and his party defeated the clones, they would also discover the underground passage.
Inside the underground passage was an item that would not respawn after being taken. Mohai had no idea what it was, and he was clueless about who had taken it in his previous life. He knew about the item because he had once read a manuscript written by Bovella that mentioned something about this item. Needless to say, Mohai was extremely curious about it.
