Reincarnation of the Cheater - Chapter 29:Silent Assassination
“Boss, are you sure you want to attack this town? Those guards look very strong.” one of my underlings say as he performs maintenance on his weapon.
“Yeah, those adventurers all had remarkable skill levels, especially that silver-haired boy with the blue eyes, he had outrageous skills for his level. I feel like they might be a problem for our future plundering. That silver-haired kid is dangerous. All his stats are twice the amount of what they should be, he’s probably the son of a noble going incognito as an adventurer.” I say as I throw more wood into the fire.
“Boss, the barrier is completely set up within an area of 20 meters. All nearby monsters are completely ignoring us, the stealth is working in full effect.” my right-hand man reports the situation of the barrier.
“Alright, the stealth only works against monsters so be on the lookout for humans. Those guards might be watching from the gate.”
“Yes, Boss.” they all answer as they leave me alone with the campfire crackling while I’m deep in thought.
‘That silver-haired kid really was here, just like that demon told me. The demon said he was a hero and damn it seems he is right, those aren’t stats a level 27 should have, and those skill levels were outstanding for his level. I can’t wait to see the look on his face when I take all of his skills. Earlier when I took some skill from the guards that woman and that silver-haired kid both came so I couldn’t continue. I wonder how long I have to keep up this act of being a merchant.’ as I’m lost in thought about today’s potential harvests I hear my subordinates rushing over.
“Boss, the barrier flickered for a second, is everything alright.” they all ask concerned for their safety.
“It’s fine, what would you expect from something a demon gave us. Not everything is perfect. By the way, where’s Dave?” I say trying to calm them. Jesus, they act like kids worrying over every tiny thing. Upon hearing my question everyone one of these 4 turn around and look towards the large tents they came out of only to see no trace of Dave at all. Upon noticing no traces at all Jim starts to get really nervous
“Boss, I swear he was right behind us.” Jim says as he walks into a tent and searches for any signs of Dave at all.
“I swear I didn’t do anything. Didn’t the barrier flicker off and back on earlier maybe something made its way in.” Jim answers defending himself. He seems to really not have anything to do with Dave disappearing. Well all of them would have to agree on it and they were pretty close with Dave.
As we all search for Dave I get an intense bad feeling and look at all the others. 4 left including me.
“Everyone get over here now. Stay within 5 feet of me and get prepared to fight, the enemy is capable of frightening stealth and may still be among us.” I order everyone to come within sight. Either this is an evolved monster like in the rumors or some highly experienced assassin, maybe even a Divine Servant has come for me seeing as I gave my soul to a Devil. As all four of us look in each direction we continue to talk to make sure of each other’s existence.
“Boss, this might be the last time I ever have the chance to say this but thanks for the fun ride in life. I honestly had fun to my heart’s content. Stealing whatever we wanted, having whatever women we wanted. It was great.” one of my subordinates Jeff says. Turning to look at him I see a shadow flicker at my feet while Jeff’s shadow disappears.
“H-He was just here.” I say as I walk over to where his voice and shadow came from. Scanning over the area, No evidence of any blood, No evidence of a struggle, and No evidence of someone even being here in the first place. Another rush of instincts come and consume me causing intense fear.
“We can’t do anything. Whatever the enemy is we can’t do anything. No struggling, No fighting, Not even a sound. Just pure destruction until none of us are left.” I say falling to my knees in despair as all my instincts scream at me to run and get out of this situation.
‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Get Away’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Get Away’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Get Away’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Get Away’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Get Away’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Get Away’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Get Away’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Please’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Stop’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Please’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Get Away’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Run’ ‘Get Away’ ‘Run’ ‘Stop’
Another subordinate… no, Another friend is gone. Without any sign of ever existing in the first place. Nothing left other than my memories. I should have never even attempted to attack that town. I should have never signed that soul contract with that Devil.
“Please. Stop.” I try to move my mouth to say as everything around me is in deep silence as the world as I know it spins around me and the darkness in the back of my mind takes over as everything in sight fades away into nothing.
