Broken World
***
Her eyes shifted around, assessing her surroundings amidst the warm light of the sun. Siola walks on a green carpet full of grass with the three undead wolves following closely from her behind. Sighing, she mumbled, “I wish I could keep that Seal.”
Even though she still has the knowledge of what the Purgatory Seal has given her, she cannot unleash the same power as before where she gets to reanimate much more undead than fingers could count. Now… she’s gone back to default with a maximum of 3 can be raised at the time. “Haa… so much limitation. Picking a Necromancer would be my demise. Even these things almost killed me.”
[Purgatory Seal] A token symbol of members in Purgatory Religion under the rules of King Lehdrith, God of the Dark Elves. Effect: Unknown
Back on her way to this area, she was attacked by these wolves and had to fight them using only the stick she got on her hand. Luckily, these wolves aren’t that high of a level and can easily be killed with her current weapons.
She now has a clear goal in mind. Money is still a problem right now, but the things that she wants to obtain… are both fame and glory. She can do so by achieving high rank and join the pro league again as she used to in her past life, which in itself, still requires money.
Cracking her neck sternly, she thought, ‘There is nothing to restore, I have yet gained anything from the world. I was a nobody… and still am.’ After reciting that phrase from a black and white comic that she read, she turned around and noticed that…
A pack of wolves suddenly came out of the bushes and ran towards her. “Hmm… I really am thinking too much, I should just enjoy the game a bit more.” She lifted a transparent dark orb out of thin air, and muttered, “Go.”
*Grahn *Grahn!
A necromancer linked themselves to their reanimated soldiers, if Siola gets too far from them, they would die within an instant.
Siola waved the [Notification] away.
Sighing once again, “Haa… I want Appraisal so bad right now.”
She replaced her undead wolves and then continue to walk.
Her journey has been set by her own. In order to get the same Fame and Glory, she would need to do the things she used to do that can deliver those things, but doing it with hundreds of times faster speed. The village where her whole journey began, Stoneanvil.
…
Sitting just below a dungeon and sat on top of a river, the Stoneanvil is never known to be anything famous. Only a normal village in a normal area. Her arms tremble as it enters her line of sight, mumbling as her lips hardened, “There it is. Looks the same as it ever was.”
The undead wolves have disappeared a long time ago.
She clenched her fist and entered the town. And as soon as she went in, a large green tree that touches the cloud greeted her eyes in a soothing atmosphere. She looked around, took a deep breath, and let them cold refreshing air into her system. “Haa…”
‘All right. Let’s see… There’s an inn over there beside the river, and then a blacksmith on the far corner of the fort with an alchemy shop right beside it. The market for shopping groceries is there on the small island on the river, okay. And there is also a general store on the right just when I entered the village. Perfect, wouldn’t need to go around much just to trades.’
“…”
“Same as always” her lips tilted.
Rakuri only gave her 5 gold coins as pocket money, she’s gripping it tightly, But then she remembers something, “Guh, even Kurira made fun of me because of you. You could’ve just, nghrr! Why did you even give me a… freaking pocket money… right in front of her.” Flushing in embarrassment, Siola tries to wash off that memory where Kurira luring her with bags full of coins… and she even followed it like an animal drooling for its food.
“A-Anyway, 5 coins. What can I get with these?”
She then went on a hunt to look for supplies, it’s important to buy a provision now since she might not be coming back for a while. After that, she bought two Spellbooks in the general store. Which right now, she only has 1 gold coin and a few silvers left. “You’re new here, traveler?” asked the shopkeeper.
“Yes.”
“Planning on settling? I wouldn’t recommend doing so.”
“Hm?” sensing an opportunity rises, Siola then asked, “Why?”
“You see, a group of bandits came here a few weeks ago and raided some of my friends’ belonging in the middle of the night. So, better to just keep your stuff to that magic pocket of yours and live somewhere else.”
“…” Confused by what the man is saying, Siola pondered in her thoughts, ‘Wait, isn’t this a safe zone? Never heard bandits raiding a safe zone before. Some aspects really did change with the update, huh. I wonder if I can help somehow, but I don’t think I can at my current state right now. I’m weak.’ She then asked, “You know where they are?”
The man shook his head, “But I do know that they live nearby. This place doesn’t have many guards patrolling around, so things like this do happen sometimes.”
“Okay, I’ll keep that in mind.” Siola nodded and bid her farewell to the shopkeeper.
Trouble in the Dark: A group of bandits has raided Stoneanvil in the middle of the night, be wary of stranger sightings
Rank: D
Objective: Unknown
Rewards: 50.000 Experience Points, Grade-D Spellbook, Grade-D Recipe, Grade-E Equipment
‘Hmm… why can’t I just get a reward like, hey, here you get this if you complete that… instead of a fucking random loot boxes. God, I hate these. Gaming Companies used to abuse them so much to make money. Especially those mobile games back in the early 21st. Hmmm, that equipment box, I won’t be able to know whether I would get a gear or a weapon.’
She then pulls out the Spellbook she bought out of her inventory. When she touches it, her hands let out a mild dark energy, wrapping the book around in it. This made her brows tilted, and when she opened it, the book disintegrated into pixelated pieces of light, and then it surges into her forehead.
She does the same with the other Spellbook and it resulted the same.
Magic Arrow: Summon spectral arrows that dealt damage according to your Intelligence and Faith attributes. Cost: 10 Health
Siola’s Note: Dealt 10 Damage at base. Each Intelligence and Faith scaling added 5 Damage per 10 stats points. Currently, with 100 and 100, it will deal 110 Damage per arrow shot.
Clairvoyance: Reveal the current user’s will and desire. Cost: 50 Health
Siola’s Note: It has a hidden scaling with Faith. With each 20 Faith, the range and effectiveness of the spell will be increased.
“Hmm… that’s new.”
It was expected that it would be the new learning process, but she’s certainly didn’t expect that it would have some special fx. “Now then, 1 gold coin left. Haa… I really want to buy a staff at least, but the cheapest one cost 8 gold coins.” After a while pondering in her own thoughts, Siola decided to get herself a basic alchemy toolset and a cheap blade that which, is enough to cut a decently thick animal skin.
Moving it left and right, feeling up the tip of its slight, “Several gold coins can buy you a lot of things in this world, and yet the players only see this kind of trade as a milestone. Well, they always are the richest since they can transfer their own money here… though, that is no longer by now.”
“I’m kinda glad that Update 6.0 came out. It makes them, as well as me, think more about my decision to purchase things. Spending recklessly on useless things… I don’t like it.”
And yet… she has done it herself.
As a chuckle was let out, Siola put the items straight into her inventory and then left the village. Heading to the dungeon on the upper side of the mountain.
…
“Oh ya? This is surprising.”
She expected that the place would be empty, but there are many players are waiting outside. Some even set up camp. ‘Heeh, I didn’t know you could do that.’
Outside of the dungeon, it felt as if it has become a sort of gathering. Kind of like a marketplace with the many traders around. The current population here is almost 60.
The dungeon entrance is that of a wide square block that are being wrapped in many stone and moss, sticking to the mountain, and the gate lies there underneath the shadow. Some players outside of it are holding a translucent board, asking for many different things.
“Need Mage DPS”
“Support. Any.”
“Son, I need your healing support.”
Siola approached the one that needed support. A group of 5, consist of 3 men and 2 women. Young, probably in their 20s, and they seem to be… exhausted. One of them noticed she’s coming, he stood up and fix his posture. “Support?”
Siola nodded.
“Level?”
“40.”
He looked to the others and they nodded at each other. Shifting his attention back to Siola, navigating things in the menu screen and sent her the party invite, “Greylords. You’ll be in the back with the Mage, don’t get caught with the poisons. First time here?”
Siola shook her head and accepted his invitation.
“Good. Let’s go then.”
A menu screen appeared where it shows the icon of the pictures of their faces and health, but no names. Only Siola has no picture in it. Also, the names and other crucial info are kept hidden unless they are friends with each other, they can’t see anything else from the other party besides those that have been mentioned.
Once the party walked in, the priest quickly lifted his staff and casted [Candlelight]. A floating light ball appeared above him, and then he swings his staff to the front and casted [Magelight], lighting the pathway until it reaches the end.
‘Welp, looks like this is going to be an easy one.’
They walked in butt deep inside, the priest stood in the middle, Siola and the mage in the back while the other three in the front. Consisting of a guardian, a knight, and an assassin.
As they walked through the narrow pathway, multiple large slimes appeared. The party quickly went into their position with the guardian casting [Taunt]. Siola was surprised, ‘Hm?
“Not using the howl? All right. This party gets even better and better already.”
The [Guardian Howl] is a more advanced version of Taunt with several additional effects. Not only the guardian resisted the temptation of pointlessly using it, but he also managed to use the original Taunt effectively, kiting the entire enemies.
The mage casted several fireballs and fires them at the surface of the slimes location, making it hit multiple slimes in its radius instead of just one. Charging her staff once more, she blasted them with [Explosion Rune] from underneath.
*Boom*
The knight and the assassin quickly went to deliver the final blow.
*Bam *Bam *Slash *Slice
They didn’t use any skills because there is no need to.
Soon after, as they have gone back walking, Siola grasped the smoky air above the corpses of the slimes and raise them as undead. Black as charcoal, leaking out a disgusting black substance. The party was shocked, they did say any support, but they didn’t expect a necromancer to join them. And a level 40 at that.
Not many people in the Pinnacle-class can level up so fast, either she was being power leveled or she has been playing for a long time. “You haven’t ranked up yet?” asked the knight.
Siola shook her head, “Don’t have the cash.”
“Ahh.”
The knight understood everything. Indeed, it is very reasonable to not have money to rank up now that Update 6.0 is online. People want to save up as much as possible, and ranking up poses a risk of failure. Literally failing is very dangerous, especially for the Pinnacle Class. If they don’t have money to do the retry if failed, it would be longer for them to rank up since they will be put on cooldown for several months in-game time.
Grasping another air, she raised another slime to follow her command.
She then commanded them to walk far in the front, looking out for traps and hidden enemies. A dungeon indeed can be entered and experienced several times, but the inside is completely randomized every time. People can get an easy run, but the other can get a really punishing one instead. The experiences are varied. Thankfully, the layout does not change. They at least know where to go.
Just imagine going in blindfolded inside a dungeon… alone without anyone holding your hand… without a light… just darkness through and through. There is one thing that might save you from the danger ahead, and that is… madness.
