Rest in a Demon’s Embrace [BL] - Chapter 220
220 Secret Realm
The Gu family appeared peaceful on the surface, but a strong undercurrent was growing in the darkness and many of the more prominent figures within the family had gathered their closest relatives to figure out their next plans and actions.
“You are telling me that your Young Master is sincere with his favoritism of this young Gu Tianyu, and that my son even shows certain signs of flattering and admiration towards an unknown child that my dead sister-in-law left behind?”
Madam Gu’s voice was heavy and her eyes lowered so that no one could see the unhappiness growing within. Although Madam Gu had heard her husband and son praising this young nephew quite a few times, she had never cared much about him.
From the very start, she felt that he was an eyesore and that he was benefitting from the Gu family, draining their resources and taking their assistance for granted.
Although the Gu family was his maternal family, it was Gu Xingxi who had decided to leave on her own, and the Gu family owed them nothing. Now that Gu Xingxi’s son had appeared, she felt indignant and hated that he was using the resources that should have been sent to Gu Tianhu.
“Yes, Madam. Do you want us to act and chase him away? We can also make him disappear without a trace.” The speaker was kneeling on one knee in front of Madam Gu. His entire body was shrouded in a strange black mist that could not be penetrated by one’s eyes, so even Madam Gu did not know how this man looked.
However, he had been by Madam Gu’s side since she was a child, and was her greatest weapon and most trusted aide. Even so, she did not know much about him.
Hearing the question, Madam Gu could not help but be somewhat tempted, but she quickly quelled her impulse and shooked her head with a sigh.
“Forget it. Although I do not like him and feel that he is a blood-sucking leech, it does not change that he is invited by my husband. No matter how much I dislike him, I have to trust that my husband has not been completely blinded by family affection.
…..
“Although I will not take any actions against him, I will not help him either. I have no doubt that the rest of the family’s Elders are as hostile towards him as I am, so we will just lean back and remain neutral. Although I will not act on him, I will not help him either.”
Madam Gu was not a saint, but she still understood that no matter how her own personal opinions were, she had to consider that she was the madam of the Gu family and the wife of Gu Xingyu. The most important thing was to show a united front.
The man shrouded in a black mist gave a sound of acknowledgement before he vanished from the room without leaving any traces behind. Madam Gu looked at the hole and a slight smile spread on her lips as she shook her head helplessly.
Without paying more attention, she summoned a few of her maids and got ready to wash up before resting, completely oblivious to the second shadow that left the room not long after the first shadow had vanished.
During this time, Luo Xiao was solely focusing on the letters in front of him and seemed to be hardworking and experienced, however, it did not take long before Ye Chao stepped forward and Luo Xiao packed away the letters and stationary.
“There are many members of the family who seem to be very hostile towards you, but not all of them are willing to take the risk of acting. As it is now, Madam Gu has refused to interfere with the current situation, but she has some very powerful supporters, so we need to keep an eye on her, in case she changes her mind.”
Ye Chao had been walking around the entire Gu Mansion and had understood many things during this time. However, although most were hostile towards Luo Xiao, he did not feeel much. He knew that their opinions did not have much influence on his new master, so he just kept his ears open as he searched for useful information.
“Master, it would seem that the Gu family is all hesitating as to how to act against you. However, the Gu family will soon send a batch of young talents towards a certain secret realm where many families send their younger generations for training.
“A few of the families are worried that you will take up one of these quotas, and that their own families will lose out on a position.”
Luo Xiao raised his head and looked at Ye Chao as he spoke, the eyes flashed with a bit of interest.
“This realm, is it possible for me to get a position without squeezing anyone else out?” Although Luo Xiao did not care much about the opinions of the Gu family, there was no need to make them unhappy over such a thing, as it would, indeed, be his fault if any of the other young talents lost their opportunity to participate.
Ye Chao was silent for some time and his brows furrowed. These positions were likely to be extremely valued and hard to gain, but he also understood Luo Xiao’s thoughts.
After thinking for some time, he seemed to find a way. “Many families will have these quotas. Although they are extremely rare and valuable, some families might not have much hope for them. Why don’t you trade some of your resources for the position? The weaker families are very likely to only join the realm for the sake of some resources to be brought back and provide their younger generations, but if you can give resources directly, I am sure they will be willing.”
