Revolution System - Chapter 29
Jim’s door opened, Jane walked in, “Oh, son, you’re back? I was wondering abou-” She stopped in her tracks, her son was in red makeup with horns on his forehead laying on the floor while a beautiful woman and child with animal parts were standing over him. “I’ll give you some privacy.”
She closed the door and headed to her own room. ‘I really don’t understand this anime stuff…’
Jim was now stock still, nobody said a word for an excruciatingly long time.
Astril: “What? What happened? How did we get here? Who was that?”
Jim: “So…this is my home.” Jim undid the effects of the Mask of Deception.
Astril: “…”
Immortal Silver Foxes had an impressive name, but they were also known as the cursed foxes. All Immortal Silver Foxes had painfully slow cultivation speeds, to the point where any random Single Horn child could use 2 years of leisure to outpace a Fox’s 10 years of hard effort. The reason for this was very simple, their bodies were natural Qi magnets. They absorbed Qi at an astoundingly high speed and efficiency, but nearly all of that Qi was utilized by the body to lengthen their lifespan. A Fox that never cultivated could theoretically live for tens or hundreds of thousands of years.
However, in the Bahn Tai World Cultivation was everything. With strength you could amass great riches, power, followers, and territory. Without strength you could not defend yourself, powerful beasts, bandits, a gust of wind carrying strange Qi, anything could take away your life away in an instant. Every Fox was doomed to only eat the table scraps on the path of cultivation while others could fatten themselves with feasts, it was truly unfair and worthy of being called a curse.
This unique constitution had another quirk, anyone or anything that eats an Immortal Silver Fox’s flesh will absorb a portion of that unusually long lifespan. Old Cultivators that wanted even just a few more years to attempt another breakthrough. Royalty that wished to showcase divine might they were not born with. Even a random stranger would not pass up the massive wealth of selling a Fox to a lofty individual, thus Foxes were swiftly driven to endangerment.
Astril and Libta wandered as nomads while hiding their identities for many years, upon stumbling across a small village their identity as Foxes were exposed, but the villagers treated them with kindness, they decided to settle down there. A year had passed, the cozy atmosphere of the village brought happiness and fulfillment to the pair. One night when Astril decided to draw some water for the next morning, she passed by the village head’s house and heard a conversation within.
The villagers had tricked them, they had been negotiating the sale of the mother and daughter for some time now with various parties. The meeting was held in order to plan the celebration in honor of the buyer arriving in two months.
Astril dropped what she was doing and grabbed Libta, they fled the village in the middle of the night without packing, both of them were crying their eyes out as they ran through the woods. The next month was harsh, one misfortune after another befell them, they did their best to persevere while scavenging and avoiding search parties. But Astril suddenly fell sick, she could hardly breath most of the time and the little stamina she had left would be quickly sapped away.
One day, they were about to forage some berries when a growling sound made them freeze, it was a rank 4 spirit beast, nothing that strong was supposed to be in this area. A simple slap from such a beast could make them into minced meat, Astril grabbed Libta and ran, in their panic they did not know how long they had fled, but the beast was always on their tail, it was toying with them. Astril tripped, she begged Libta to keep going and resigned herself to her fate.
Suddenly, a man appeared, he killed the powerful beast in one blow. Astril had been wondering what to do about this strange man, he was a Dual Horn that had treated them well. He claimed not to want to harm them but she was certain he was just lulling them into a false sense of security. Still, her leg was missing and they were in the middle of nowhere, he could easily hunt them down even if they got a head start, she wasn’t sure how to escape being eaten this time.
The man acted strangely, he was powerful enough to become nobility but spent most of his doing menial work. In their time there Astril saw even stranger things, vegetables she had never seen or heard of before would grow at amazing speeds in his farm plots. Items he crafted seemed to have a strange glow to them, small creatures made of wood obeyed his commands. ‘What is he!?’
She had become certain he was no ordinary Dual Horn, he seemed to have never even heard about her race before, how could that be!? She was fearful of informing him lest he decide she was worth more as a cooking ingredient.
Then, what she feared came to pass, they had caught up, the ones who wanted to devour her and her child. Astril couldn’t sense Qi but she could tell Jim was no match for the bearded man who appeared. She was certain he would just hand them over and be done with it, but while she was lost in thought he actually launched the first strike.
She couldn’t tell exactly what happened, suddenly they were indoors instead of in the woods. There were unknown objects all around. Jim’s arm was wounded. A woman appeared for a moment, spoke unfamiliar words, and then left. Then Jim’s skin and face changed in an instant. ‘What is going on!?’
