Rise Ethereal Essence - Chapter 20
The Dark Essence was still chuckling at the misfortune of the messengers.
A few days had passed since it finished the creation and its body was still undergoing change, oddly enough.
In the many days of receiving the divine light, it couldn’t do anything at all. The change prevented it from using the Sundering Rift, the space, splitting, or changing its size and shape.
Although it couldn’t do anything, it still had the basic functions it originally had. It could see, hear, move, and do other things.
It was strange to see the many things it had created and called, natural behaviors, completely unusable. Every time the Dark Essence attempted to use these natural behaviors and principles, there would be absolutely no reaction. Only a brighter glow would appear on its body for a few seconds before disappearing.
As it waited for the divine light to disappear, the Dark Essence had stumbled into a strange land.
It had unknowingly passed into an unfamiliar land.
The surroundings were filled with dark colors. Trees and plants were dark and sinister. Above the ground was a grey fog covering miles of land making the ambiance quite eerie.
The Dark Essence regained focus, taking in the landscape from above. The divine light within its body seemingly forced the strange aura away leaving the sky around it clear and pure.
Focusing on the way it came from, it saw a boundary. Beyond that boundary was the world of The Crystal Tree, mostly barren except in the places it passed.
The land it passed over had a radiant glow, and there was a long path of vigorous plants.
On the other side, where the Dark Essence was, the ground turned from barren to putrid. The dirt was both soggy and dry, filled with the dead remains of plants and large trees. It was a strange combination.
The Dark Essence was intrigued. This place that was vastly different from the rest of the world.
As the Dark Essence continued on, the divine aura around its body repelled the atmosphere.
Looking down, it saw trees that were massive with three large holes. Two seemed to be hollow eyes, and the other was a wide pit beneath the two.
Every so often a long branch or vine would extend below and devour small plants with thorns and thistles uprooting the pile and bringing it towards its mouth.
The land surrounding the Dark Essence was squirming and dilating. The divine aura on it was spreading. As the aura touched the uncanny plants and ground, they were lighted. Steam rose, but would immediately disappear as the land and plants were overturned being occupied by different plants and land.
As the Dark Essence continued on deeper, the environment turned evermore eerie.
Soon, large beautiful trees and large spine-chilling trees appeared. These trees towered above the others and would occasionally rise from the ground walking with their roots.
Like the three-holed trees, these towering trees stood up clutching the three-holed trees with claw-like arms and devouring them whole, sometimes chomping them to pieces.
Some of the more unfortunate cases were the beautiful trees, they remained still, with plants and herbs on display, looking like exquisite snacks. An unfortunate individual would extend their branches towards the snacks trying to snatch it for themselves, but in the end, they would be snatched up by the beautiful tree and devoured.
Rarely, these towering trees would attack themselves, battling it out, the winner would then consume the loser.
It was a cannibalistic cycle of plants eats plants.
“GRAahh… this damn world. We were so close! You useless trash! Get out of my face.” In the distance, a ghastly voice roared.
It was spine-chilling. The originally silent rustling of the trees quietened down.
The Dark Essence only had time to focus on the direction of the voice before a shadowy frame appeared before it.
It floated before the Dark Essence. In comparison, the figure was like an ant before the thirty-meter body of the Dark Essence.
“What is this? Is The Crystal Tree finally taking action, bringing this ball of light to us.” The eye sockets of the figure seemingly burned with grey flames.
“Hahaha! Your efforts are useless! You had the chance for better, greater things if you hadn’t refused his offer. This was your choice.” The snickering voice rapidly turned chilling.
The shadowy figure reached into the place where its stomach would lay if it had a corporeal body, pulling outwards.
“Shwoopt”
A viscid shadow-like substance was pulled out, transforming into the shape of a curved blade.
The Dark Essence just stared at the figure, assuming it was talking to someone else from its context, completely dismissing the fact that it said ‘ball of light’.
The shadow raised the hand holding the blade into the air. The grey fog covering the land swirled up into the blade.
Layer after layer of fog piled onto the blade slowly creating a silver lining. A curtain of fog circled the blade encapsulating it.
“Ahaha, you brought this upon yourself.”
The shadow suddenly swung down with great speed splitting barrier after barrier. The strain on the atmosphere caused a draft to dart after the blade.
“Pzszsz”
A luminous glow burst outward from the Dark Essence. The divine light around the Dark Essence was glowing brightly like a scorching sun.
The surroundings were scalding and incandescent. The moist land, towering trees, and grey fog were steaming. Everything was aflame, even the sky.
The Dark Essence could see nothing but the divine light glowing brighter by the second, but it was ecstatic. It felt the change in its body coming to an end.
“Psssth”
The luminous glow slowly came to an end sizzling to a stop. The Dark Essence only saw blank space. There were no trees, land, air, or shadowy figure. There was absolutely nothing.
“Oh!”
As if gaining new knowledge, information poured into its mind filling it with strange new concepts.
It was no longer obstructed by the divine light.
The Dark Essence reviewed some of the new features caused by the change. Its body had formed natural behaviors!
When the Dark Essence first had the idea of making its own natural behavior like the ones in the elves bodies, it had tried creating something like the Sundering Rifts and the space.
Although it called it a natural behavior it wasn’t actually one.
Strangely enough, after the change, it now had actual natural behaviors.
The first one was the Sundering Rifts. It had been made into an ability that could be utilized whenever and wherever within its body.
The second was related to the shaking of the Dark Essence’s body, although it was similar to the Sundering Rifts, they had their differences. It was now mainly used for shaking matter at a molecular level, hence its name Vibratory Flux. Also an ability.
Although there were more, it hadn’t utilized them and didn’t know what they did, but there was one that stunned the Dark Essence greatly.
The Dark Expanse
The Dark Expanse was the same as the space that formed when it used the Sundering Rifts separating matter and dark matter.
It was made into a natural behavior. Meaning, it was constantly operating in its body.
Its purpose, a separate space of dark matter and dark energy. Only accessible to itself and it didn’t have any form of contact with the rest of world. It was like a world exclusive to the Dark Essence.
The Dark Essence assumed the space it could contain was more vast than the original capacity as it couldn’t feel the edge of it.
Then there was one last feature. This one seemed like the most important out of the others.
Immaterial Absorption
The concept was pretty self-explanatory.
It was the absorption of immaterial substances, such as dark matter, and dark energy.
The Dark Essence was joyous examining the new features. It was definitely an eyeopener, and to think this was all the result of a creation.
Stop me now, I need some sleep.
