Rise of The Anti God - Chapter 758: In Trouble For The Wrong Reasons
Mira’s eyebrows pulled together as she realized that she had let her anger make things worse. No matter how angry or provoked she felt, she shouldn’t have raised her hand against the youngest son of Warlord Nightshade, whose clan’s strength was comparable to the Godwin Clan these days.
She was worried that this might cause problems for her Master, especially since this happened in public.
But Damien was actually surprised that she only ended up slapping him and not doing something worse.
“Lady Mira, you harmed our young lord despite the fact that he didn’t even touch you or provoke you in the slightest. Is this how the disciple of the Chief should behave? Does your arrogance have no bounds, or do you think that you can do anything just because you get to stand behind the Chief?” An old ghoul wearing a long dark blue coat stepped forward from behind Mehron. He had a long white beard and ghastly eyes with a gaze that seemed to burrow into whatever he looked at.
Mira’s fingers were squeezing each other upon seeing this old man since he was the War Elder of the Nightshade Clan, Ruhar, who was considered to be the most trusted confidant of Mehron. She already knew how he had even helped Mehron strengthen the Nightshade Clan over the years, which strengthened his status as well. He could even make decisions in the absence of Mehron, and nobody would dare oppose it.
Damien could see that this guy was some sort of bigshot as well, but he was concerned that these assholes were cornering Mira, who got in trouble because of him.
Lehron got up and smirked upon seeing that she was in serious trouble and he might finally get his revenge.
However, Mira straightened her back and said with a stone-cold face, “War Elder Ruhar, as per the laws of the Ghoul City, laid down by the great Purple Thunder Knight, no one can touch the slave of someone else without their Master’s permission. I tried stopping the Young Lord once, but he still tried to touch my Master’s class while disrespecting my warning. I couldn’t think of any other way within such a short time to stop him.”
“How brazen! Do you take us for fools to think that you couldn’t stop the Young Lord any other way? You want to talk about our laws? Then do you know what the law says about those who slap someone who belongs to one of the four ancient clans? Even a human on the streets will know which one carries more consequences,” Ruhar said with an abrasive voice.
“Wasn’t the punishment for that something like cutting off a hand or two? It is not like the perpetrator is of noble bloodline for us to consider any compromise,” Lehron said with a sly smile while rubbing his cheek. He couldn’t help but make sure to remind her of her lowly origins.
But even though he was smiling, his blood was boiling thinking about how much his cheek was hurting because of her slap. He had to get back his face no matter what. He was expecting her to soon beg on her knees to avoid any punishment.
Damien could see how all these assholes were trying to cause trouble for no reason. He could feel the tension rising in the air, and only his aunt could do something about this. But she wasn’t here, and Mira’s authority was limited here.
Mehron, who was watching all this silently, suddenly raised his hand as he said with a calm smile, “Everybody should calm down. Lay down your swords. It’s too much to point them at Lady Mira,” He ordered as Lehron’s entourage immediately sheathed their swords and moved behind.
Damien wondered what this guy was up to since he didn’t surely seem like a magnanimous guy.
Otherwise, he would have clearly pointed out that his own son provoked her first by talking about her dead parents.
“But my Lord, she laid a hand on our Young Lord! We cannot overlook this. Otherwise, next time something like this happens, they might take your kindness for granted,” Ruhar said with a cold snort.
Mehron nodded as he looked at Mira, “It is quite unpleasant for me to say this, but you really went a bit overboard, Lady Mira. I know you were doing your job, but it could have been handled better, right?”
Mira took a deep breath as she stiffly nodded even though she didn’t want to, “Right…”
“Father…You cannot just let her off like that. Look at this,” Lehron said with a disgruntled look as he pointed at the red palmprint on his face.
“Keep calm, son. I haven’t finished talking,” Mehron said with a subtle glance at Lehron, who immediately lowered his head and stood behind.
He looked at Mira again, “I don’t want to make things difficult for you since I believe you didn’t mean to do it. But you have to understand the gravity of your actions. However, since this situation arose because of the slave behind you, how about we settle this with a simple spar with my son’s slave?” As Mehron said this, he shot a strange glance at Damien, making him feel as if this guy was targeting him for some reason. But what could it be?
War Elder Ruhar nodded with a veiled smile, “My lord, you are truly being too kind, but it does sound fair. I believe Lady Mira should seriously consider this unless she is willing to…” He didn’t have to finish to make her understand what would happen if she didn’t accept this.
Only Lehron seemed even more disgruntled since he couldn’t understand why his father or even the War Elder was letting this go. He knows if this duel happened, his slave would obviously win and crush the human slave of the Godwin Clan. But why would he care about some human slave’s life or death when his grudge was with Mira?
Mira furrowed her brows, not expecting such a proposition. This was even worse…at least for her Master since she knew what kind of human slave Lehron had. No way Damien can take on such a vicious thing while fighting as a human.
She knew she couldn’t make any decision on this even if this proposition was favorable for her, “I apologize, but I can’t decide on this matter. Only my Master can.”
