Rise of The Anti God - Chapter 774: Merit System
“There are three squads standing before me, and all of you together will be tasked with saving an entire station that is under siege by the ghouls. It is way smaller than our station, but we have to recapture that station since it would be vital to retrieving the final piece of the map. Gunner’s team has the most experience, so he will be the squad commander, leading all of you,” Kena said as Gunner and his team pressed their arm against the chests and shouted in a respectful tone, “Yes, leader! I won’t disappoint you or our people.”
“Will only three teams be enough? How strong are these ghouls?” Lily asked as she raised her hand.
Kena subtly smiled and said, “That is your job as well. I am sure Alex must have trained you all to always scout for information first before engaging in anything. So all of you will work together and gauge the strength of your enemies and plan accordingly. But no matter what…you all have to complete this mission in whatever way possible. If you all fail, then I am afraid none of you will be getting any missions for the next six months.”
Gunner and his team gulped hearing that since if they don’t take part in missions, they receive little to no incentives in the station, which could make them end up sleeping on the streets, eating food not even dogs would eat.
Reva nodded with a narrowed gaze. By now, she learned that a merit system was established in this station or maybe all the stations. Anyone would be able to lead a comfortable life here as long as they were good enough and completed their missions to earn something called ‘credits’. With enough credits, one could even rent a huge house for themselves, get the best pills or food, and most importantly, access to powerful weapons or cultivation manuals.
But even if someone managed to reach the top after completing a number of difficult missions, they still have to keep working hard like before to maintain their position. If they became lazy or complacent, they could very well lose all the perks they got since others might perform better and take away those perks.
Nobody got any special treatment here. Even the children of high-ranking officers have to work hard to earn the incentives once they reach a certain age.
Not only she but even Yuria, Valentina, and Lily were unfamiliar with this system. Back in the Rising Sun Continent, just being born as a child of a wealthy and powerful family was enough to be set for life without working hard.
But all four of them felt that this system was better since it seemed fair. In Valentina’s case, she really didn’t mind since she never lived as a princess and had always fought beside Damien to get what she and he wanted.
“I can only give one assurance. If you all truly work together, then this mission isn’t impossible to finish, and all of you can return home. It depends on how you all are going to do it, and consider this as a very important test to see where you all stand,” Kena said with a firm look as all twelve of them nodded.
“Good. Now Gunner and Lily’s team knows each other, but why don’t you introduce yourself and your team to them, Jake?” Kena asked as she looked at a tall, young man with decent looks. Behind him, there were two young women and one young man who was part of his squad.
Jake had brown hair and eyes with good looks, average height, and build. He had dark-tanned skin and nodded at Kena before turning towards Lily and her sisters with a friendly smile, “All four of you are famous after what happened last week. So let us introduce ourselves to you all.”
Gunner cleared his throat as he still felt a bit embarrassed whenever someone mentioned the duel he lost because of his own doing.
“I am Jake, the squad leader, and I am pretty good at tracking ghouls. I am not bragging but letting you all know what we are good at just to keep it in mind,” Jake said and then pointed to the pretty woman behind him who had her brown hair tied up into a long ponytail, “This is my girlfriend, Linda.”
Linda stepped forward immediately with a cheery smile and said, “Wow, I can’t express enough how beautiful all four of you are. I am excited to work with you guys. Ah, and I might not be good at scouting, but I am good at taking entries.”
“Nice to meet you, Jake and Linda. I look forward to us working together,” Lily said with a friendly smile as well.
Jake smiled with a nod and then pointed to the tall, bulky man standing beside him, “This big guy named Berret is not only my squad member but my best friend too.”
Berret had a clean-shaven head, and his figure looked intimidating. Yet his face seemed gentle as he stepped forward and said in a cordial voice, “I don’t have much to say, but you all can depend on me if any ghouls try to ambush us. I can distract them easily with my big body.”
Everybody softly chuckled upon hearing his words. Jake then pointed to the short, young woman standing beside Berret, “And our last member is Ana. She is Berret’s girlfriend and a bit shy, haha.”
Ana, who had short black hair and light brown eyes, stepped forward with a shy smile and said in a low voice, “Pleased to meet you all. I-I have never seen a team consisting of only powerful women like you four. I hope I can keep up and not disappoint you all.”
“Please don’t worry like that. You all seem nice, and we also look forward to working with you all,” Lily said with a warm smile as all of them smiled as well.
“Good. Now that you all got introduced to each other, go and get this mission done,” Kena firmly said as everyone shouted, “Yes, leader!”
