Rise of The Immortal Wraith - 18 Instilling the Fear
Sitting in the center of his room, his knights standing around him, Salem thought to himself on how he was going to eliminate this ignorant trash who called himself a noble. “Jenna, how many new warriors did you collect today?” , Two hundred master,” good. Each day you will take the knights to collect more, two hundred a day will be the minimum, once reaching that many it will be your choice if you gather more or return home.
We need information on House Madden, from the number of troops to their secret trade routes and exits of their main house. I won’t let them off easy for launching an attack on innocent people, for no other reason to grasp at small gains, I will be increasing the scouts we should also start with any rumors of the Madden family.
“Anything we can get our hands on will help our chances of making a swift end of these greedy pigs,” Salem cursed softly, “Five of you will go to the mine and guard the workers, take one hundred of the undead as additional forces. I will have new scouts in that area by tomorrow morning, the twins will be here with me and three other knights to guard the children during the day.
Annah I need you to ask the city lord what he knows of the Maddens’ next time you see him beyond the wall, I will be going to the other gates tonight to plant the obelisks and move forward with a part of the plan. We will need to lay low, for now, we don’t need to gather too much attention before we strike,” finished giving orders he had everyone start preparing, it would take time to gather more forces and the information to make his enemies bleed.
A month passed in oppressive tension, servants and workers had been slain in an elven household by bandits who in turn had been wiped out, if that had been all no one would bat an eye at the death of bandits. The display of bodies hanging from the spears with a man screaming for his torture to end had brought what Salem wanted, fear, it had taken hold of many hearts and moved through the commoners like a plague.
Standing in a meeting hall that had become a war room, with maps and information attached to a large map showing not only Koftas but Idos aswell, on the side of Koftas to the east along the mountain had nine “Ms” which were the Maddens mining operations, three of them were actually in Salem’s own southern district. Looking at the potential targets and times the ores would be moved from each mine and where they would be stored he smiled knowing in just a few hours his knights would strike all the caravans and storage facilities owned by the Maddens.
During this past month, he had learned the Maddens owned mines and were wealthier than most in their position and were close to rising in rank in the noble houses. They had planned on using the mines in his own territory to elevate their status to push him out of the southern gates command, leaving it open for themselves to take the trade from Idos.
It was unlikely they would’ve been able to take all the trade with just their house alone, they were working with or even for someone and were just a tool to be used and if they failed their mission, disposed of. He considered them lucky because they would soon know the price of challenging him and he was going to make sure nobody else was going even think of coming at him for a very long time.
During this month they had collected enough undead forces to guard the children, the tunnel and the gate without any issue, with over six thousand skeletons spread out between the knights he would be able to handle the token forces that held the ores. He had also turned dozens of children who were now learning how to be an elf instead of a human from the previous children.
With the obelisks planted they had merged with the core tree outside his mansion he had activated a plan he had put into place since he thought of helping the city lord, he no longer needed to go out and collect the souls of the dead, they would be absorbed by the obelisks and sent to his tree, if they were slain with the weapons he provided outside the barrier the energy would follow the weapon until it reached the obelisks range which would absorb the energy and shift it to him.
This helped increase the strength and heal the wounds on his soul, he could now feel a barrier while meditating which would be a tier three stat which made him excited. Walking towards the gathering spot for when his knights finished their errands he practiced his minor teleportation, flashing from alley to roof and down towards another alley.
He arrived early so he waited, and explored the ruined house not far from the eastern district, touching walls and stomping floors he searched the house until he found what he wanted. His tails appeared behind him and whipped the ground breaking into a tunnel leading towards the east.
Inside the Maddens mansion, Rowan Madden heard the reports keep coming as he sat at his desk clenching his teeth, his mines had been hit hard leaving none of the resources behind. “Call everyone back to the mansion, we are under attack by a much bigger threat than any elf and we need all the men to defend just in case we can’t buy our selves out,” he ordered the servants to send out a retreat to the main house.
Night had fallen, the Madden house was a hornets’ nest of activity nearly filled to capacity, whispers of what was happening filled the halls. Then the banging sounded, anyone nearby looked at the main entrance in apprehension. The guards on the walls fell, arrows or spears stuck through them, panic started to blossom among the crowd.
Bang! the main gate gave under the rapid banging, marching into the home of house Madden hundreds of warriors cloaked in black marched in and began a slaughter with the short blades in their hands reaping lives as they went, the guards put up a resistance but ultimately failed to slow the men in black cloaks.
Hundreds of guards along with Rowan Madden made their way from the main house towards the intruders engaging them in a struggle of life in death, but even if he stabbed one the most he felt was the penetration and breaking through bones. but they still didn’t fall to his blade, he fought on trying to open a path to the remainder of guards with his clan’smen, turning he realized they had been surrounded, but how did they approach from the rear.
Then he saw them, knights with black robes and armor, the wore the Belegast, everything in front of them died. He could see one figure being lead forward in the middle of the knights and he had the idea that should they kill that one in the center it would all end.
So he called for his men and charged, as they ran and engaged the knights, he pushed his way through knowing this would be the only way to save his people. Lunging forward he saw the silver mask of the devil in front of him, he was stopped abruptly and was lifted mid-air, he felt he had been pierced through.
Glancing at his chest, green tails were stabbed throughout his upper body, “Ah, so I was already dead…” he barely whispered before his death.
“You have your orders, no survivors, take the children home, loot what we can.” Salem walked out of the mansions gates and began instilling fear once again, a spear for everybody that littered the ground, and like this, no one would wonder how this happened Lord Madden was placed at the front of his family.
On a spear, his body hung high above the ground with the Belegast banner whipping in the wind.
