The system screen was filled with notifications. After completing the mission, he had gained 13 levels at once, which made Add quite pleased. He lost a [Shadow Knight] and a few thousand CP in the form of bullets and explosives, in the process, but his overall gains vastly outweighed the losses. However, the goblins had without doubt suffered disastrous losses. The entire village of goblins was slaughtered, their maimed and shredded bodies lying all around. Some were spilling their guts, some were missing large portions of their bodies, and the majority were riddled with holes. The silence of death loomed over the village, and the nauseating odours of blood, burnt flesh, innards and more mixed together to form a c.o.c.ktail of smells that made even the main culprit mind his nose. Yet, he could not leave this place without doing some more killing. He and the remaining [Shadow Knight] searched around the Goblin village in search of any hiding goblin. They found a few survivors here and there, and sent to meet the makers. He also found many goblins offspring, most of which could not yet walk. Some people may pity these new born and spare their lives, but not him. The teachings of his instructors and his experiences in the battlefields, taught him well, not to show any mercy to those who didn’t deserve it.
“When killing your enemies, make sure you kill every last one of them! Remember! You MUST kill till they are all dead and no one is left! You can never show pity or compassion to your enemy! An Enemy spared is a time bomb ticking to blow in your face, right when you are least expecting it! So kill! Kill till there is no one left to threaten you, till there is no one left to avenge those that you killed! Be it women, children, old or young! If it’s the enemy Kill without mercy!”
He still remembered that gruff instructor who had taught him that. The man had lost an arm in the war but still could hold his own ground effortlessly till the very moment he died. No mercy it was. He killed all the goblin offspring he could find and did one last round of the village before departing for Rigel. He had spent two days in this forest and there was much work to be done back home. Back to his status, there were 42 stat as well as skill points to allot.
(Let’s see some into agilitya little defence and strength..ah cannot miss vitalitythe skills as well)

After allotting all those stat points, a warmth coursed over his body as strength seemed to flow into him from a place unknown. His face revealed a look of surprise, having had no such feeling when adding the stat points before. He picked up a rock which was lying around, it was a little bigger than his own fist. The rock cracked as soon as he put some pressure on it, and with a little more, broke into pieces. His strength had really increased by a lot. His boduy also felt lighter and more energetic. Afterwards, he purchased a few chocolate bars from the System, which served for his dinner. Dinner could have been a random snake or rat or even insects if it came to that, but even the battle hardened soldier, had a sweet tooth, which was not too much to ask for, was it? Having finished his small dinner, young master Add tucked himself onto a cosy branch of a tree far from the goblin village, and went to sleep, the [Shadow Knight] keeping watch in all its silence. In the cold night, howls and roars were common occurrence, as the hunters of the dark came out to prey. The soft breeze blew over the sleeping boy, and under the faint moon light, he looked like an angel, sleeping in the arms of nature, a completely harmless and gentle being. But who could tell that this very person had caused such bloodshed a few hours before ? The night passed without any events, allowing the young master to have an uninterrupted sleep.
Morning arrived bringing with it, a gentle atmosphere that coved the hills. The tiny droplets of dew sliding down the blade for the leaves shined like little jewels and provided moisture to many tiny insects and animals, as they began preparing for the new day. Add stretched his limbs, a light yawn escaping his lips. Landing lightly beside the [Shadow Knight], for a moment he stood still looking at the silent metallic thing before him. The two [Shadow Knights] had done a lot for him and one had been destroyed in the process, but now they had outlived their usefulness. They could not level up or be given skills, he knew, he had tried, but the System wished otherwise. His level was 43 now, and the subsequent level ups would require ever increasing amounts of Exp. and with its strength, it could not hunt stronger monsters, so it would be highly impractical to keep using the [Shadow Knight] to help in his levelling. Taking all this into account he un-summoned the [Shadow Knight]. It was not gone however, just stored in a different space, until its master had a use for it. Perhaps someday he could use it as a guard of the mansion, but for now there was no immediate need to keep a suspicious looking black armoured thing follow him around. Taking out the summoning ticket he had gotten this time, it was similar to the ones used for summoning the [Shadow Knights], the strange runes and the dull bluish colour of the ticket were the only differences. According to the system, this was a [Armour Summoning Ticket].
(This. This is not something like [Shadow Knight] ? it would just summon an armour ?)
He could not help but sigh. As he was hoping for a stronger summon, which could help him, but only got some armour summoning ticket instead
[Host, the summoning tickets the of this system, can be divided into two types. The first being [Item summoning ticket], which could summon inanimate objects like weapons, armour, tools etc. the second type is the [Contractual Summoning Ticket], which can summon living and sentient things, like the [Shadow Knights]. Although the [Contractual Summoning Tickets] usually offer better rewards, you can rest assured that the system is one of the best source of quality in all the multiverese, even if it is just an [Armour Summoning Ticket] it will not disappoint the host.probably]
The last bit of the otherwise decent explanation made his face twitch.
(So, on what basis is the item summoned ? is there some rule?)
[The item is summoned will belong to the general category, as in this case anything considered as armour maybe summoned. As for how the selection is done, it is at Random, Host]
(I see,’ Random’ huh.)
[Yes Host, completely random.]
The cold and expressionless face of the young master almost scrunched up and his lips opened to say some praise which would have made the most educated man on Earth run home in embarrassment, but he controlled himself. There was no use crying over spilt milk, and he could only hope to obtain something decent.
(Anyway, all that Exp. and CP was enough of a reward already)
“Summon”
He used the ticket without any particular hope, as the ticket turned into motes of light and disappeared, no armour appeared before him, but a system prompt did inform him that he item had safely entered his inventory. While not expecting much, he opened the inventory menu and looked at what he had obtained.
_ _ _ _ _
Item : Regimental Light armour.
Description : A standard light armour worn by the soldiers of Aklan empire. Forged from a precious alloy, which is mixture of precious metals and minerals, this light weight armour provides excellent protection for its class. It is known to be highly resistant to corrioson and by Earth’s standards, it would be able to resist penetration from a 12.7 mm (.50 calibre) armour piercing (AP) bullet at 500 metres.
_ _ _ _ _
After taking it out of the inventory, he stood there observing for some time. The armour was coloured in a black matte and was relatively simple in design, it had four main parts. The Helmet, the torso region which protected the chest, the back and the abdomen, the fore arm protectors which ended in metal plated gloves and the metal plated boots. The Helmet was a simple design, with straight edges, and covered the entire head except the face. The main part which protected the torso, was further divided into three parts for ease of wearing. The back portion made by a large metal plate which extended halfway of the back and followed by a line of interlocking V-shaped plates which allowed movement of the body. The front had a similar arrangement with a distinct chest plate made from a single piece of metal, followed by V-shaped interlocking plates. There was also a metal collar attached to the front and back plates, circling the neck, to provide protection. The forearm protectors covered from the elbows to the wrists, from where the gloves took over. The palms of the gloves were left un-armoured with the armour only covering the upper side of the hand while the underside of the fingers and palms were covered by a thin but tough cloth. The boots which extended from below the knees were made of a leather like material, and covered by armour plates. Over all it appeared to be an armour from a world were guns were not in use, yet in this world where the only ones possessing guns would probably be him, that was the least of his concerns .
Whatever Aklan empire was, it would probably not be as technologically advanced as earth, because there were dozens of un guarded spots, a bullet could hit the wearer from. However, the protection offered was quite decent. Being able to resist a .50 calibre AP round at 500 metres was no easy job for body armour. Overall, despite the fact that it left many parts of the body exposed, the armour was quite decent and lean and slim in appearance. It weighed at around 40 kilos, which in turn made him wonder what will the heavy armour weigh. It could be a bit challenging for a regular person to wear, but for Add who was now above level 40, it was very easy to handle. For now, he chose not to wear it and kept it back in the inventory. He was not planning on using the helmet at all, as he felt, it was unneeded. The armour however could be worn when needed.
(Well then, let’s be on our way)
After travelling for a few hours, he finally exited the forest. He had not brought a horse this time around so he was expecting to walk the entire way home, but then as he walked ahead on the small road leading towards Rigel, he saw some familiar faces. One of them, saw him and hurriedly ran to him.
“Edward, what are you doing here ?”
Add asked the man who was making a worried face.
“Young Master you have finally returned ! We were so worried! You didn’t return for 2 days! Madam Martha is very mad! ”
Edward’s face was slightly pale as he remembered the angry berating he had been given by the old lady before being sent to look for the young master first thing in the morning. In the Weismann estate, no one dared anger the old head maid. He looked at the young master whose face was cold and detached as usual, as if nothing in the world could make him care. But the clothes Add was wearing drew his attention. The jungle camouflage clothes and boots which Add was wearing appeared very strange to him. He had never seen such clothes and shoes before and also these were not the clothes Add had been wearing when he left the estate. Add only had the combat knife on him which was kept in a holster, by his belt. He had kept the guns away right after exiting the forest.
“Young Master, that what clothes are these ?”
“Don’t mid my clothes. Moreover didn’t I tell you I was out to explore the hills and it would take a few days? There was no need to be this worried. What would you do if it took me a week to return, camp here ?”
He said flatly, completely ignoring the query. Edward could only smile helplessly, he dared not pester the young master if he did not want to speak. It was true that Add had told the cadets that he would be going on a small trip alone, but Martha was not willing to take any risks. He had slipped out without informing Martha so she was really angry. After a day passed, she could no longer wait and sent the Edward and a few cadets who followed him to find Add. In fact they were planning t enter the hills to look for him if he didn’t appear by noon.
“Madam Martha told us not to return until we found you”
Looking at the man who had a helpless look on his face Add decided to let go of this matter.
(Martha really worries too much. I would probably be lectured once I returnsigh..)
Thankfully, Edward and co had brought horses along with them, so the return journey was quick. As soon as he stepped inside the Mansion, he was greeted by the old lady who had a smile on her face which did not look like a smile.
“Young Master please come with me, we need to have a talk.”
Add could only helplessly follow her to the study where he was give a sermon for over an hour. The old lady kept speaking about how the future of the Weismann family depended on him, how he was the most important person here and he could not act recklessly and risk his life. Strangely, though, he didn’t not feel irritated or annoyed at her preaching. Both the original young master and himself, understood how much this old lady cared for him. Martha was the closest thing to a family Add had ever had, so her preaching only gave him a sense of comfort if not happiness.
“Young Master, I know that men of your age tend to be rebellious and seek adventure, but you must keep in mind the responsibilities on your shoulders. The hopes of your family and the fate of the entire Weismann territory rests on you. If something were to happen to you, what face would I show to the old master after I die ? The Madam, on her death bed, entrusted you to me. And you doing these kind of things really worries me. You must not act recklessly like this in the future! There are many monsters and Beasts in those hills which can harm you, even your late father who was such a strong warrior was killed by them..”
Once she had said her piece, the old lady excused herself. The young master then went to meet Kent and inquired about the cadets’ daily training. He had not trained them for three days now, leaving them in Kent’s care, which he found was not such a bad idea. The man was no longer in his prime, but he could take the role of an instructor just fine, especially when it was simple exercises. Add decided that in the future, once Kent became completely familiar with the exercises, he would let him take over the physical training of the new cadets, while he would focus on giving them the military training. After watching over the training of the cadets for the remaining day, and correcting any faults he could see, he retired to his study. He sat on his chair, his eyes up towards the ceiling as he immersed himself in his thoughts.
(Family In the past life, I never knew who my parents were, from as early as I could remember I was already an orphan.)
Traces of sadness and longing appeared in his cold and emotionless eyes.
(How many times was itI saw families happily walking around with their children, hand in hand with their parents. While I could only watch, longing for a my family, my own roots Even when I grew up that longing never changed, my comrades would speak of their families, about how they wanted to see their parents after they finished the mission but I had nowhere to return and no one to return to Even in this life, it seems I am destined to not have a mother’s love or a father’s care”
Add had always kept his emotions controlled and buried at the bottom of his mind, but today after listening to Martha, who was so worried for him, his mind was stirred. The love of family, a ting so alien to him. Something he always wanted, but never had. Even the many enemies he killed in his previous life, most of whom were criminals and terrorists, had families, but not him. He could not help but sigh at his fate. Although he did not believe in destiny, some things were just beyond his control. A firm resolve gradually filled his heart.
(In this life, although I did not get the love of a family but I know of my roots! Adolf Kaiser Weismann you are dead, but worry not, since I have taken your place, your family is my family now. I will make sure the name of the Weismann family goes down in the annuls of history! That’s a goal I will definitely fulfil one day!)
His heart set on its goal, he began his work. For the next few days, he usually stayed in his study, and occasionally went to inspect the training of the cadets. At his orders, Walter the treasurer also began collection information on the various situations and important groups and people in Rigel. The people often saw the young lords out on the streets with no guards whatsoever, leisurely walking around. What they did not know was that he was observing every notable detail, piecing together the various reports Walter was sending him. Of these what raised his concern was the poor state of law management in his territory. The 200 man strong militia was barely enough to watch over the town and the surrounding villages were completely on their own, at risk from frequent dangers from both monsters and bandits that plagues the area. The militia itself had gotten corrupt and acted more like the lackeys of Dave the captain. It was clear that Dave had to be removed, but it was not the right time yet.
The other important thing of concern was the complete dependence of the traders and small businessmen on the merchants for any income to the territory. Due to the remote location of Rigel, only a few merchants were willing to come here to trade, and they had formed a sort of monopoly, buying the local produce at cheap prices, while they made large profits selling them elsewhere. The small traders of Rigel could not go to other large cities to trade by themselves as they were too far and the path was filled with danger. Only wealthy merchants who travelled in large convoys and could hire strong mercenaries to protect them could travel safely. This severely decreased the earnings of the people. But that was not it. Many important commodities like salt, yarn etc. and almost all of the currency came through these traders., making their hold on the economy even stronger. Add noted all these things in his mind. Soon he would have to take action, for if the Weismann territory was to prosper, it had to completely become master of its own economy.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
Finally the month ended, and Add decided that the cadets had enough of physical training. By now the 100 cadets had adapted into the schedule he had set for them, and almost all of them could now follow the clock. It was time for the real training to begin. Early morning of the first day of the new month the cadets assembled at the field for their every day training. But instead of Kent who was in charge of training them, they met the young master, no, the instructor again. His face was cold and expressionless as usual as he gazed at the cadets before him. They were still a bit sloppy but not beyond hope. The 100 men standing in 10 lines, silently, not speaking a word felt quite nostalgic to Add. After they had completed their routine run, he gathered them together.
“Cadets, today I have both good news and bad news for you people” he began,
“The Bad news is, your physical training ends today. Congratulations you have completed it.”
The cadets were clueless. ‘Why would that be bad news ?’ they all thought. If anything it was the completely good news. They would be spared of exercising all day, and many of them could not help but smile. But the instructor had yet to finish.
“The Good news is that the actual training starts now! What you all had been doing till now cannot even be considered as warm up! It can only be called bringing you into shape! From now onwards, for the coming 6 months, you will be experiencing what real training is! So prepare yourselves!”
The faces of 100 men fell. They appeared to have suffered a great impact. For the past 20 or so days they had been toiling every day, thinking that t could not get worse, but today the instructor dropped a bomb, shaking them all up. One of them opened his mouth wanting to say something.
“Instructor this—”
He was met with an icy look from the young instructor.
“You have any problems cadet ?”
Looking at his face and remembering how ruthless this instructor was, the cadet immediately shook his head and returned to silence. Not one man dared speak again. Satisfied at their response, Add continued.
“All of you, pack your things and meet me here by noon. This place is too small to continue further training. We will have to change places. At noon I want you all here, did I make myself clear ?”
“””Yes Instructor!”””
“Then you all are dismissed!”
After being dismissed, the cadets quickly scrabbled to pack their things. They wondered where the instructor wanted to take them to, and what did he mean by actual training. But one thing that all of them understood was that the Instructor really hated anyone being late, and it was not at all wise to anger him, or else the consequences would be really harsh.
“Well then, I should begin preparing as well, after all now begins the difficult part..”
Murmured the Young Master as he watched the cadets disperse, while Kent who had been informed of some details regarding what was to come, watched them with a slightly worried expression on his face.
