Rise Of The Ussr In Another World - Volume 1 Chapter 15 Predator
A/N : Here are a few things which I would like to clarify.
Firstly, I apologise for the lack of updates this month. My exams are going on and they will only be over by the third week of December. So expect no new chapters till then. I am posting this chapter today, and new chapters will come in the last week of December only. Please keep patience.
Secondly, I received a comment stating that a light armour (specifically speaking the, Regimental light Armour, mentioned in the chapter titled : Mission Rewards and taking the next step) cannot or should not be able to resist machinegun fire. Well just to clarify, there are many things in fantasy which are strong beyond what is possible by science. So I hope people will keep that in mind as there is a fantasy tag attached to this story.
Finally, there have been some people who do not support the economic policies the USSR implemented in real life and think that this story will present similar policies as well and so bitch about that. To them I would say that just because the story is based on the USSR, in no way does that imply that whatever was done by the original USSR will be done in this story as well. The protagonist will have his own ways and thoughts on the state policies and I suggest such people not to make rude remarks before reading the better portion of the story. It would be even better if such people just don’t read my work at all.
Well then, enough ranting, here is the chapter. Enjoy.

The Hills near Rigel, were an extension of the Great Dividing Ranges. These hills extended for around 30-40 kilometres in width, before giving way to the actual mountain range which was over 800 kilometres, with countless enormous peaks, wide valleys and deep ravines. These immense mountain range had a wide variety of dangerous monsters and beasts and also home to many magical beasts. For now, Add did not have enough confidence in going there, so he stuck around the forested hills, grinding levels till he was strong enough. While hunting monsters, he was taking a meandering path, going diagonally through the hills and changing direction every day. In this way he was able to cover a wider area than he would have done if going straight. During this time, he encountered many strange beasts, there were large cat-like monsters, carnivorous plants, hordes of feral rats and many more. But after 5 days of travelling, he crossed paths with the most dangerous monsters he had encountered till now, a pack of 9 Dire wolves, a kind of monster commonly found in this region.
These monsters were similar to the wolves found on Earth, however they were twice as large as the largest wolves back on Earth. They were very intelligent and could gauge the strength of their enemies to some extent. These cunning creatures hunted in packs and applied various tactics in their attacks. Although a single Dire Wolf was only at D rank, a pack of them was C ranked. They also had thick hides, which made them resistant to attacks. The group of 9 dire wolves had encircled Add and when he had fired the AK-47 on them, they had just flinched a little, clearly, the AK-47 was not strong enough to hurt them unless the bullets hit weak spots like the eyes, belly etc. However, using the PKM machinegun, combined with his upgraded agility and enhanced senses, Add managed to kill 6 of them, before the remaining 3 escaped.
After walking quite far away from the spot where he killed the wolves, he rested for a while. Sitting in the shade of a tree, he opened the system to purchase a skill. His physical strength was high enough, so he decided to purchase something which would increase his speed and agility. The system shop didn’t disappoint him and soon he found what he was looking for.
_ _ _ _ _
Skill : [Agility Enhancement (Passive) Lv. 1/20]
Effect : Current level : +2.5% to overall physical agility. Next level +5% to overall physical agility
Description : A skill which increases the body’s overall speed and reflexes by a fixed percentage of the base stat per each level.
Price : 20,000 CP
_ _ _ _ _
The price of the skill was quite high, but it was reasonable since the skill was a percentile one. This was a big advantage over direct addition to stats as when max levelled this skill could increase his agility by 50% of the base value. He also wanted to buy some active skills but it appeared that most of the active skills which were combat oriented required mana to be used, and as he currently had no mana, he could not use them, for now at least. This was a bit troubling but he didn’t fret over it as it was beyond his control. The ability to use mana was innate and present since the time of birth, a person who could use mana had special veins called mana channels in the body, which allowed the transport and control of mana by an individual. Add had no way to know if he had those channels or not, but instead of lamenting over that, he chose to do what he could. He began looking for a better weapon, a rifle to be precise. The AK-47 had proved to be a tad bit insufficient when dealing with the Maned Boar and Goblin champions. The gun itself had no problems, it was just the fact that it had been designed to kill humans and not monsters. So, he needed something stronger for an Assault rifle. As usual there were hundreds of firearms to chose from in the system shop. He looked around for a while and then decided on the following :

Item : SIG SG 716 (Sturmgewehr Model 717) Patrol; Battle Rifle (Grade – Rare)
Description : The SIG SG 717 comes from the renowned Swiss gunsmith concern of SIG Sauer. The weapon makes use of the 7.62×51 mm NATO standard rifle cartridge. It is a gas-operated weapon utilizing a short-stroke pushrod system. It has a Gas Piston operating system with a closed rotating bolt action firing mechanism. It has a cyclic firing rate of 650 700 rounds per minute. It can fire both in semi automatic mode as well as full automatic mode. Built on the base of the tried and tested AR(Armalite) line of automatic rifles, this weapon is among the best in its class.
Effective Firing Range : 600 metres
Durability : 250/250
Price : 8,000 CP
_ _ _ _ _
This weapon had been extensively used by the western countries of NATO in the initial years of World War III and had proven very effective in its time. It also laid the base for even deadlier rifles. There were many features which made it desirable. The stock of the rifle was adjustable to varying lengths from the rear of the receiver. The gun also implemented ambidextrous controls for both left-handed or right-handed shooters. The integral internal working components were all lined in chrome to protect against corrosion and make for a long-lasting system capable of much abuse. Four accessories rail systems completed the design, located along the top of the receiver, the sides of the forward hand-guard and the lower region of the hand-guard. It accepted 10, 20 and 30 round box magazines which were easy to attach an detach. It could fire Armour Piercing rounds as well. Overall it was a powerful and accurate rifle and quite robust and durable as well and designed to perform optimally in any kind of environment.
Although this was not a Russian gun, and mostly used by his enemies, Add was not someone who stuck with stereotypes and had no problems in using anything as long as it served the purpose. He held the sleek looking black weapon in his hands and familiarised himself with its mechanics. The rifle came with two adjustable front and rear sights while additional optics could also be purchased and mounted if needed. The entire rifle was around 3 feet long and weighed less than 5 kilograms with its magazine added. It was quite lightweight as various plastic composites and alloys were used in it reducing its weight. After getting familiar with it, Add slung it by his body and the AK-47 was put into the inventory as a reserve. He then purchased 10 magazines for the Sig 716, each having a 30 round capacity and priced at 100 CP per magazine, and 600 rounds of ammunition. By now, he had also earned another level.

After he had rested enough, he ate some food and then resumed his journey, continuing to hunt monsters, and just 2 days later, the system once again presented him with a new mission.
_ _ _ _ _
[ Ding! New Mission Issued : Makings of a hunter
Description : It is time to prove your skills at hunting and establish yourself as a true hunter. Subjugate the following monsters :
1 x [Iron Clawed Bear]
50 x [Dire Wolf]
25 x [Armoured Surile]
1 x [Alpha Dire Wolf]
50 x [Yelkai Evil Ape]
Rewards : 500,000 CP. Title : Predator
Time Limit : 30 Days
Penalty : If the host is unable to complete this mission in due time, any random 5 skills of the host will be erased ]
_ _ _ _ _
It was another subjugation mission, but it was different than the ones he had gotten previously. For one, it had a large reward of 500,000 CP but no experience. There was also the title of “Predator”. The status screen had a “Title” option but he had never paid much attention to it. Once again he turned to the cold and aloof system for answers.
“System, explain what this title is and what it does..”
[Host, a title can be considered as a special system exclusive passive skill. It gives you certain bonuses depending on what the title itself is. For example the title “Predator” increases the Credit Points earned by killing things, by 100%. Various titles can be obtained by completing missions, or when specific conditions are made. However, even though you can get multiple titles, only one can be equipped at one time.]
“That’s quite an interesting feature isn’t it”
A 100% increase in CP meant that he would be earning double the CP per kill. This was an extremely generous reward, but he knew that the system was not going to give him 500,000 CP and this title for nothing. He had to hunt a lot of monsters, and they would definitely not be weak ones. Till now, he had come across only one monster among the 5 he had to hunt, the Dire Wolves. They were by no means an easy prey, and from his short encounter with a few of them, he knew that they were very cunning and worked in coordinated packs. The other monsters he had never heard of, so he looked for a solution in the system shop. As expected, he soon found a solution. For 25,000 CP he purchased a virtual encyclopaedia which contained all the monsters that lived in and around the Great Northern ranges. The price was high, but it was a vital item for Add who had close to no information regarding the monsters that dwelled here. Just as Tsun Zu had said, If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succ.u.mb in every battle.”
Information was a very critical asset and without sufficient information, even the strongest of people could fail miserably. The encyclopaedia, however was quite simple. It had a picture of the monster and mentioned the basic features of every monster, where it usually lived, its habits and briefly about the strengths and weaknesses. All this was very helpful while formulating plans. Going through the encyclopaedia, he found that of the target monsters, the [Iron Clawed Bear] was probably the closest to him. This bear usually lived alone, and its favourite nesting spots were beside rivers were it ambushed its prey. Since he was close to the Lucent river, he decided to look for the bear first. Making his way towards the river, he used the drone to look for the signs of the bear. But even with the help from the drone, it took him 3 days to finally find one. The drone flew over a dense grove of trees beside the river when it spotted a large creature moving in the thickets, crushing and mowing down the vegetation in its path. Covered in a dull red fur with a large powerful skull, it was the size of a Land Rover. This was the [Iron Clawed Bear]. This particular bear lived in a large den, which seemed to have been dug into the face of a cliff a few hundred metres from the river.
This bear was a monster well known for its violent nature and was extremely territorial, the territory of one bear could stretch over 500 square kilometres. Being an omnivore it ate whatever it could lay its hands..well paws on. It was classified as a B rank monster. But it was much stronger than a Goblin King which was also B ranked. Its fur and skin were very tough and it was very difficult to injure it. But its most dangerous feature were the sharp claws on its forelimbs each almost a metre long and very hard and sharp. They could easily tear a person in half and even shatter hard stones. A hit from its giant muscular body was strong enough to topple thick trees. Add retreated immediately. Engaging this monster directly, with his current abilities was worse than suicide.
To deal with this thing, he would have to plan carefully, this monster was very strong and would definitely give great rewards. The Sig 716 would probably not be of any use. In fact any regular guns would probably have no effect on a thing that was built like a tank, a tank made of flesh and bones and perhaps even the .50 calibre sniper rifles would have difficulty killing this thing. The Iron Clawed bear was very aggressive by nature and if he couldn’t kill it quickly, then being attacked, it would go on a rampage which would be problematic.
“Wait.if its built like a tank.then.”
A small grin appeared on his lips as he had already formulated his plan. If his opponent was a tank, he just had to use weapons which could destroy a tank. There were many weapons which could do so like Anti-tank mines, Anti Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs), Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs) etc. but considering his enemy that was a living creature, much more mobile and agile than a tank, the options became somewhat limited. After some consideration Add decided on the RPG.
A RPG (Rocket-Propelled Grenade) is a shoulder-fired anti-tank weapon system that fires rockets equipped with an explosive warhead. It can easily be carried by an individual soldier making them highly mobile and versatile in usage . The warheads are affixed to a rocket motor which propels the RPG towards the target and they are stabilized in flight with fins. Add chose to buy this because it was quite cheap, lethal and he could easily reload it within seconds.

Item : RPG 7V2
Description : The RPG-7V2 is a Shoulder-Fired, Single-Shot weapon with a Reusable Launch Tube. It uses a warhead with a caliber of 40 mm. It uses Standard Iron sights but advanced optics may be fitted as well. The ruggedness, simplicity, low cost, and effectiveness of the RPG-7V2 made it the most widely used anti-armour weapon in the world. The RPG had been used in almost all conflicts across all continents since the mid 20th century and its successors found their massive use in world war III. The RPG-7V2, is capable of firing standard and dual high explosive anti-tank (HEAT) rounds, high explosive/fragmentation, and thermo-baric warheads , with a UP-7V sighting device fitted which is used in tandem with the standard 2.7 PGO-7 optical sight, to allow the use of extended range ammunition. Depending on the users, it has a maximum firing rate of 4 rounds per minute.
Effective Firing Range : 50 – 200 metres
Durability : 500/500
Price : Launcher – 4,000 CP
Warhead 250 CP
_ _ _ _ _
The weapon looked like a pipe with a rocket stuffed at one end. This was in accordance with age old soviet doctrine of “making things as simple and as effective as possible at the same time. Weighing at around 7 kilograms, it was compact and easy to carry. Add purchased 10 warheads of the HEAT category since the skin of the bear was known to be very sturdy. Although standard high explosive warheads should be able to heavily damage the bear, he chose to use the HEAT rounds which should be able to penetrate through all that fur, skin and fat with ease. Now that he had the weapon, he proceeded with the next step : laying a trap. He spent the remaining time of the day finding a proper spot for the trap.
The next morning he was out to get some bait to lure out the bear. Using the drone, he had found a perfect place to ambush the bear and now needed something to bring it there. While he was walking across the river bank, on his way, he had seen many Maned Boars grazing around. He returned to the area where he last saw them and found a herd of 12 boars grazing on the shrubbery of the forest. Although these boars could run very fast, against the AX338, they were less than sitting ducks. Add managed to shoot down three boars before the rest escaped, but it was more than enough for him. They were just bait after all.
The Iron Clawed Bears, like most bears were known to be scavengers as well. Although they usually hunted for their meals, they would never refuse any free food. He had found a vantage point up a small cliff by the river bank. There was enough shrubbery and bushes to hide his figure over there. As bears had a very sharp sense of smell, Add had to cover himself up with a paste of plant and grass leaves making him look like a person who had crawled out of some swamp. But it was a necessity lest he wanted to alert the bear. He dragged the corpses of the three boars to the river bank and placed them in a spot around 150 metres away from the cliff. Though the boars were very heavy, each weighing over 500 kilograms, with his strength it was not very difficult, but still dragging one and a half tons of boar over a distance of 2 kilometres was quite taxing. Once he had placed them at the spot he returned to the cliff. There were no major obstructions in the way so he had a clear view from a safe distance.
He then adjusted his AX338 sniper rifle on its bipod after finding a proper position and lied down. His eyes glued to the scope to see any movements in the area. The die had been cast, and now all he could do was sit and wait. the blazing sun heated the entire area and the corpses of the boars began giving of the dense smell of blood and meat which gentle river breeze carried into the forest. Hours passed, but aside from a few carrion birds and some small scavengers, no one else disturbed the bait. Now he was again left waiting. Few more hours passed by and the sun was beginning to go down. He had been at the same spot since midday and was thinking if his trap had failed to attract the attention of the bear. But then, after a few minutes, he noticed from the corner of his vision that some short trees and bushes began to move and along with a low growl, a large figure slowly bulldozed its way through the forest and onto the river bank. Add’s eyes narrowed as a smile appeared on his lips. His prey had finally arrived. He watched in silence as the Iron Clawed bear came closer and closer to the bait. It was all going according to what he had planned. Now that the bear was in full view, through the magnification of the scope, he could see its every detail. The bear looked more like a oversized grizzly with much more muscle expect the fact that its fur was dull red in colour and the claws on its paws were really sharp and long. If not for having full confidence in this soviet designed weapon, Add would have not dared no mess with such a creature.
“Old But Reliable” the RPG 7V2 was a weapon one could always count on when wanting to destroy light armoured vehicles and less armoured tanks and today Add was going to test it against a monster, something no one had done before. He put aside his sniper rifle and picked up the RPG. A HEAT warhead was already placed on the launcher. Add had chosen the HEAT round since he theorized that to a living creature, an external explosion would not be as devastating as an internal was. The metal stream that came out of a HEAT round should be able to cause tremendous damage to the insides of the bear, at least in theory.
A high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warhead is a type of shaped charge explosive that uses the “Munroe effect” to penetrate thick tank armour. The warhead functions as follows. Inside the warhead, there is a thin sheet of metal (often moulded in the shape of a cone) before the actual explosive On hitting the target, the explosive charge inside the warhead explodes and turns the sheet of metal to melt due to the heat and pressure generated by the detonation and turns the metal into a liquid like state with a very high velocity. This form is called a “superplastic jet” and is capable of penetrating armour steel to a depth of seven or more times the diameter of the charge (which is in the warhead). The stream material is formed by a cone of metal foil lining, usually copper, though ductile iron and tin foil are also often used as a slightly less effective, but cheaper alternative.
The HEAT warhead for the RPG 7V2 weighed at 2.6 kilograms with a diameter of 93 mm. With favourable conditions, a good aim and a bit of luck, at its best it could penetrate around 500 millimetres of Rolled Homogeneous Armour (RHA). Add was betting that the skin, fur and fat of the Iron Clawed bear would not be stronger than that. As he watched patiently, waiting for the bear to come within striking range, it suddenly stopped just after stepping on the river bank. Having lived and survived in the wild for so many years, the bear had some amount of appreciable intelligence.
The Iron Clawed bear was quite cautious. It seemed to know that there was never any free lunch in this world. It stayed near the tree line and sniffed the air and looked around, its eyes moving from one corner to the other, trying to sense any danger or strange occurrence. After a few minutes of hesitation however, the primal urge to feed won over its caution and it slowly made its way towards the dead boars. Dressed in the soldier uniform with standard forest camouflage, Add blended in very well with the lush bushes of the cliff. He gave a sigh of relief, as he was starting to get worried that the bear might not fall for the bait. But finally it did. The giant weighing over an estimate of 2 tons arrived before the boars and after looking around for one last time, it began munching down on the boars. Its huge teeth tore flesh and crushed bones with ease.
“Steady…. Steady…..”
Add mumbled in his mind as he now held the RPG-7V2 in his arms. He was kneeling on one knee while the other leg remained in a squatting position. This provided a still base to launch the RPG while also leaving room for mobility should the need arise. The iron sights of the launcher were aligned onto the bear eating meat, that was completely oblivious to what was going to befall it. It was greedily devouring the meat tearing apart the boars with is teeth and powerful claws. Add patiently waited. The bear was originally facing Add’s direction but after sometime it turned a little to eat better, exposing its side to him.
Now the RPG not a very accurate weapon from mid to long ranges. Its hit rate on a stationary target was 100% up till 50 metres. As for the bear which was some 180 metres away, the hit rate would be around 60%, provided that there was no crosswind. As such having the bead expose its side which was well over 5 metres in length and over 3 metres in height, was a very favourable situation for Add. Also there was little crosswind at the moment. He took one final confirmation of the target and pressed the trigger.
*Whoooosssssshhhhh*
The warhead immediately left the launcher at a speed of 115 metres per second, creating a cloud of light grey-blue smoke. The rocket motor would ignites after 10 metres and boost the speed to around 295 metres per second. The grenade was stabilized by two sets of fins that deployed in-flight: one large set on the stabilizer pipe to maintain direction and a smaller front set to induce rotation. The bear had good hearing and was immediately alerted by the sound of the weapon being fired, but its reaction was a bit slower than the speed of the RPG which arrived at it within 2 seconds. Looking at the strange object coming towards it, the bear immediately tried to run, but it was too late. The grenade hit it right after the ribs and exploded. The HEAT warhead exploded sending a piercing shot of semisolid metal into the body of the bear which perforated its thick fur, skin and layers of fat like a hot knife melts through butter.
*Roooooaaaaaarrrrrr!!!!!!!!*
The bear gave a very angry roar, filled with pain. Its skin and fur may be very sturdy but its insides were still soft and delicate. Having a stream of hot metal jutted into its body, caused massive injuries to its organs causing tremendous pain. However, for the bear this was not the end. Add immediately reloaded another warhead onto the launcher and fired, this time the bear that was shocked by the pain couldn’t even dodge and was hit again. The RPG hit it just below the large hump of forearm muscles. Again, the stream of metal penetrated its skin with ease, drilling through its ribs and reaching its lungs. The heart was missed however, but the damage was already devastating. The shockwaves of the explosions had stunned it, and it couldn’t move.
The first shot had heavily damaged its intestines and some other organs causing massive internal bleeding while the second shot had practically crippled one of its lungs. However it was still standing, unwilling to fall. Add fired another two shots, one of which missed exploding on the ground near it while the other hit it the pelvis. The bear trembled and its large body, finally slumped onto the ground with a dull thud. It was not dead yet though, its eyes red from pain and rage as it continuously roared in hatred. Its roars however, were getting softer very fast. It tried to get up, but kept tumbling down again and again. There was only pain in its body, and it could not muster any of its rock shattering strength. Its eyes looked hatefully in the direction where the attacks had come from. There, it saw Add who was also gazing at it with a cold face.
He went down from the cliff, carrying the launcher and another warhead in his hand. He however didn’t go near it and stopped around 50 metres away from it. The bear maybe in a sorry state now, but one swipe from its paws, even in its weakened state, was enough to rip him apart if it landed. He never took needless risks. After thinking for a while, he readied the warhead and aimed at the bear’s large head. It was time to put this guy out of its misery. The poor bear was a sitting duck as it watched in unwillingness, and the third shot hit its neck missing its head by inches. The neck vertebra was penetrated and the spinal column damaged, finally killing it.
“Well it was tougher than expected…..”
Add was really a hit surprised at the toughness of this bear. It took three hits from a 93mm HEAT RPG and still didn’t die. Only after the fourth round severed its spinal cord, did it finally die. This once again made him realise just how strong these monsters of Iseria were. And he was also thankful of the [Military System] without which even a hundred of him would be no match for this thing.
[Ding! You have killed Iron Clawed Bear x 1!]
[Ding! You have received 50,000 Exp. and 25,000 CP]
[Ding! You Have Levelled up!]
[Current Level 48 | Experience for next level 172/51450
He had got a lot of Exp from killing the bear. According to the system, the bear was a B ranked monster and a very strong one, so the reward for killing it was also high. Add could only imagine what would have happened if he had to fight it directly without using the bait to lure it out and making it let down its guard and if he did not hand modern weapons at his disposal. It would be extremely dangerous and perhaps impossible for him to kill the iron clawed bear then. What Add did not know however, was that much of the information of the actual strength of Iron clawed bears was unknown as even rank 4 warriors tend to bypass this monster if possible. The reason being its extremely violent nature, and unreasonably high strength. This bear didn’t fear death. It would take its attacker down, even at the cost of its life which made it a very bad prey to hunt. No one wanted to mess with a large monster which could crush stones to bits was reasonably fast and above all had no care for its life. On the other side it seemed that the System thought of goblins as worse than trash, or else why would the exp obtained from a single goblin champion which was only one rank lower than the bear, be so low.
Fortunately for Add he had the support of modern weaponry, which allowed him to attack the bear from a distance otherwise considered too far. In this world where guns and firearms did not exist and only cold weapons like swords, arrows, spears etc. were available, close quarter combat was the normally the only way of battle, unless one was a skilled archer or a mage that could use long range spells. There were however, some archers who had enough strength to pierce the bear’s hide with arrows, they were warriors with high ranks but they were few and far in between. Having modern weapons was a huge advantage and he knew it. Now that the bear was dead, Add resumed his journey. For the meat of the bear, like most carnivores it was not worth eating.
Since he was already near the river, he planned on hunting the [Armoured Surile]. Being C ranked monsters, these creatures were a type of lizards that usually dwelled in the river waters, living and hunting therein. They were greenish and brownish in colour and had elongated bodies, with short but wide heads, with powerful jaws containing long conical teeth. Their legs were quite short but were straight under their bodies unlike crocodiles, but similar to what dinosaurs had. There was also the tail which was long and covered in spikes with a par of longer sharper spines, at the tip serving as a deadly weapon. However, their defining feature was the thick armour of bony plates and half a foot long spikes which jutted out from their backs and sides, protecting them like a suit of armour. Their small eyes and belly were their only weaknesses, but since they crawled with their bellies almost sticking to the ground, it was hard to hurt them easily. These creatures grew over 5 metres in length and lived in groups. They resembled crocodiles in many ways, but unlike crocodiles who were slow n land, these creatures were equally fierce and nimble on land, always acting in swarms and tearing apart anything which they can get their jaws on. Once again, Add used his eye in the sky, that is, the drone, to search for his target. This time it took much less time, and the drone found a large swarm of Suriles within a day.
Now he just had to figure out, how to deal with a large swarm of creatures that were as ferocious as a crocodile, and armoured with spikes and plates, while at the same time, worked in groups like wolves and were fast and agile. One thing he understood though, that this was going to be much trickier than hunting the Iron Clawed Bear, and that was for sure

A/N :
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :
1. WARHEAD : A warhead is the explosive or toxic material that is delivered by a missile, rocket, or torpedo. It is a type of bomb
2. Thermo baric weapon : A thermo baric weapon is a type of explosive that uses oxygen from the surrounding air to generate a high-temperature explosion, and in practice the blast wave typically produced by such a weapon is of a significantly longer duration than that produced by a conventional condensed explosive.
3. The key to the effectiveness of a HEAT round is the diameter of the warhead. As the penetration continues through the armour, the width of the hole decreases leading to a characteristic fist to finger penetration, where the size of the eventual finger is based on the size of the original fist. In general, very early HEAT rounds could expect to penetrate armour of 150% to 250% of their diameters, and these numbers were typical of early weapons used during World War II. Since then, the penetration of HEAT rounds relative to projectile diameters has steadily increased as a result of improved liner material and metal jet performance. HEAT rounds of RPGs used in the third world war could claim numbers as high as 500%.
