- Volume 1 Chapter 6 Getting Information And Mission Completed
Back at the mansion, Add spent the remaining part of the day reading whatever books, he could find in his father’s study. He had already read most of them and so it took him little time to finish the rest. But he still didn’t feel that he had learnt enough about the world. So he called Martha and asked her to share any information she could. Fortunately for him, Martha was a person originally from the capital city of Reinglief called Alsingen. Before moving to these lands, the Weismann family had also lived there, and Martha and Walter had been hired during that time. Martha who was quite surprised at the young master’s sudden change over the past two days, explained all she knew. Luckily for Add there was not much work to be done in the Mansion and the few servants managed well enough, giving Martha some free time every now and then.
After going through her accounts and what he had read, he summarised the following. The Northern Subcontinent which he was on now, was located towards the east of the Atlas continent. It was 1/6 the size of the Atlas continent and it was believed that originally it was a part of the Atlas continent but later drifted apart. A great sea separated the Northern Subcontinent from The Atlas continent which was surrounded by oceans on all sides, and no one knew if any other land existed beyond the horizon. The Atlas continent resembled a deformed ellipse in shape, and was bent in the middle giving it a curved appearance.
The Northern Subcontinent was wide from east to west and narrow from north to south, it resembled a deformed rectangle in shape. It had diverse geographical regions, with more than half of it covered by forests, snowy plateaus, high mountain ranges, deep valleys and many other landforms. Reingleif was located on the eatern side of it. There were three major kingdoms in the northern sub continent namely Reinglief, Solia and Krijger. There were also a few other smaller kingdoms but these three were the most dominant on the subcontinent. The great forest of Waldesten on Reinglief’s eastern border was tens of thousands of kilometres wide and covered a vast majority of the eastern coast of the subcontinent. Till today humans had only been able to explore a small portion of it.
This world of Iseria was home to countless races. Among them the most prominent were the Elves, Dwarves, Demons, Humans, Fairies and Werebeasts. Other legendary races like the Dragons, Demigods, Angels and Gods also existed, however they were rarely, if ever, seen. The Elves, for example were a race deeply rooted with nature, living mostly in forests in harmony with nature. They had very long life spans reaching well beyond thousands of years and were very proficient in magic. Dwarves were masters of mining and forging. The weapons and armour crafted by the dwarves were famous across the lands.
Werebeasts were like humans except the fact that they had animal like features such as animal years, tails, fur etc. They boasted high physical strength and combat abilities. Demons were another major race, which consisted of many types of creatures like vampires, werewolves, succubae, and many more. These creatures were very proficient in dark magic, and were very strong as well, known for their bloodthirsty and violent natures. As for the other races like Dragons, Fairies, Gods, Angels, not much information was available about them, as they were rarely seen or heard of, it could be said that their existence had faded into legends.
The humans of this world could also use magic. However, not everyone could use it. Only a third of the population was estimated to be able to use some form of magic, and among them the truly powerful ones were no numerous. Humans who could not use magic had an average lifespan of around 100 years, however the ones that could usually lived well past this age, some even reaching well beyond 200 years. It was also said that some great and powerful individuals had even lived for over 500 years. Though their life spans were short compared to many other races, the humans were the most numerous sentient race on Iseria, a testament to their innate ability to adapt and proliferate across all areas, with fast speeds.
These various races are mostly always in conflict with each other, which have resulted in great wars across the ages, killing countless people. But after the humans conquered nearly a fourth of Atlas continent, most of the other races like the Elves, Were beasts, Dwarves etc. were forced back and now had to reside in the harsh wildernesses. They had poor relations with humans, as humans tend to attack them and make them slaves. It was the same in the northern subcontinent as well.
According to the belief of the people, humans along with many other races, came into existence millions of years ago, however, they were among the weakest of the races among that time, and lived in constant danger and fear of the monsters and other races. Then, about 5000 years ago, 12 knights emerged from the Human race. They were the strongest of the humans, blessed by the gods, and having powers never seen before. They rallied their followers and led the entire human race into unifying the various human factions and taking over the continent and today almost a fourth of the continent is ruled by the Human race. However they are currently embroiled in a millennia long war against the demon race that also control a large part of the Atlas continent. Both sides have been in a dynamic stalemate with no side having gained any major victories over the years.
Those 12 knights all established a kingdom each in Atlas which are now known as ‘The 12 Empires of Humanity’. Their names being, Argarnsen, Laggard, Jaereich, Rigas, Kanelos, Mellistania, Heldervlam, Schmerlit, Saelenior, Kreigsman, Feonigin, and Kernsdorf. These 12 empires are ruled by the descendants of the 12 knights. Reingleif, the kingdom Add was in, was nothing compared to these mighty Empires of the Atlas continent. It was only a small kingdom, among the few in the Northern Subcontinent. The difficulties faced due to the harsh climates of the north and the extreme landscapes which left little land to expand into, caused the 12 empires to lose interest in this large subcontinent. Moreover, the large expanse of sea between the Northern subcontinent and Atlas was filled with mighty beasts and monsters, making travel through those waters very troublesome and risky. Thanks to that, small kingdoms like Reinglief could exist here till now with little influence from the 12 empires.
There was no major religion in this world, but a lot of humans were devotees to The Church of Light. It worshiped the god of light Eleudir, who was believed to be the creator of the human race. The church was spread all over the Atlas continent and its origins predated the 12 knights. It had tremendous power and influence and even the empires didn’t dare oppose it as much as possible. Bu just like the 12 empires, The church of Light also had little interest to invest their resources and man power to expand into the northern subcontinent due to the geographical issues. Still they had some influence o the far eastern side of the subcontinent which was closest to the Atlas continent.
After gaining a basic understanding of his world, Add began looking at the thing which had most intrigued him most ever since he reincarnated. It was Magic. Martha could not help him much in this regard, as Magic was a subject of mysteries and only the mages and wizards could explain it properly, so she could only give Add some basic information which she had heard and seen through her life. In this world magic existed, a strange power which was beyond the laws of science, seemingly making the impossible, possible. Mana, was a mysterious energy found in nature, which was the fuel for magic. It was everywhere, in the air, in water, in the ground, in plants, animals and even in humans and other living beings. People who could manipulate mana, could use it to cast spells, which were the manifestations of imagination and knowledge.
Spells were incantations written in ancient runic languages, which were mostly words spoken to give form to magic. Some common examples were [Fireball] which formed a ball of fire, [Heal] which could cure wounds etc. Almost anything could be done with magic, people could fight, fly, make water, light a fire, protect themselves and much more. As a result the need for science had become basically nonexistent and the society had stagnated in a feudal-middle age era.
Of course not all people could use magic. Around 1 in ten thousand had enough mana in them to be able to use it to cast spells and become a Mage. Being a mage or wizard, was heavily dependent on ones talent, rather than hard work. All Mages had a very high innate capacity for mana, when compared to normal people. They could cast powerful spells and were a very strong force. As a result, Mages were highly sought after by the empires and they enjoyed tremendous status and power. The ones who had mana, but not enough to become a mage, or those who lacked talent in learning sorcery, could still train and use it to strengthen their bodies and become strong warriors. In fact, the armies of the various empires were composed entirely of such people.
The warriors who could use mana were divided into different ranks, from Rank 1 to Rank 10 based on their strengths; rank 1 warriors were the weakest and the strengths of the subsequent ranks drastically increased. Mages were also divided into 10 ranks starting from Rank 1 all the way to Rank 10, based on their strengths. The people who could surpass rank 10, obtained an entirely new level of power. After Rank 10, there was the Saint realm which was said to be the highest the humans could reached. The 12 knights were saint level powerhouses as well. Both mages and warriors could increase their strengths, by training themselves which included meditation and physical and magical training. There were also various medicinal items like rare plants, monster parts, precious ores etc, which could help increase a Mage or a Warrior’s strength significantly in short times, and these were very very costly.
However, one’s innate talent dictated heavily, as to how far one could go. It was said that a single saint level warrior was enough to destroy an army of 1,000,000 rank 1 warriors without breaking a sweat, while Mages held even more devastating powers and a single saint wizard could level a country. The power of the ranks was eminent, as such the kingdoms were always trying to nurture as many high ranking warriors and mages as they could and they formed the base of a kingdom’s power.
Martha finally came to the Monsters and Magical beasts. The monsters were animal like creatures which were generally large in size and possessed tremendous strength. There were a huge variety of them, from large versions of animals to fantastical creatures like goblins, orcs, kobolds, werewolves etc. Magical beasts on the other hand were monsters which had the innate ability to utilize mana and could use it to cast some form of magic. They were much more dangerous than normal monsters, since they could use magic and were lot more intelligent than them. Some high ranked monsters even gained sentience. Some mighty Magical beasts could even take humanoid form.

Having learnt all this, Add was awed at the grand scheme of things in this world which was completely new to him. The next day as he again went to the forests at the foothills. His goal was to get to level 10 today, which should not be difficult if he found more goblins to hunt. Add avoided the area which he had been to the previous day, as the goblins would be alert there, so he went in a different direction and began searching for goblins. Strangely, although he found goblin tracks, but, even after searching for almost an hour, he didn’t spot a single goblin.
So he decided to go in deeper into the forest. And soon he found a group of five goblins. Add slowly approached them, but this time he didn’t use his AK 47, rather he used the M20-A semiautomatic pistol to see if it was effective in killing these creatures. He quickly approached the group and by the time the goblins had noticed him, he already began firing. He fired in quick succession and precision. The .45 APC round were very effective at close range. They killed the goblins with little effort.
[Ding! You have killed Goblin 5]
[Ding! You have received 500 Exp. and 250 CP!]
After encountering this one group, he did not find any more nearby. As he was looking around for more goblins he suddenly heard some suspicious sounds.
“Hmm ? What’s that sound ?”
Hearing those noises he took some twists and turns through the thick undergrowth, and reached a small forest path. It looked like an abandoned road which had not been used in years, the path was almost completely covered by bushes and grass and if not for the missing trees, Add would not have been able to recognize it. The sounds still continued and he followed it, the source of the sounds growing closer and closer. When he finally got to it, he saw a large group of goblins, around 40, moving about. It seemed it was a type of a camp.
From the cover of some bushes, he observed for sometime deliberating whether or not to attack them. It was a few hours to evening, and although this was a fairly big group, he didn’t want to waste time searching for smaller groups of goblins. Furthermore, it was a big pile of Exp. and CP waiting to be taken. He observed them for a little while longer and silently approached within the cover of trees and bushes. When he was little over 20 metres away from them, he kept his pistol away and took the rifle. He wanted to finish the group before they could escape or call for help.
At first e began shooting from the cover of bushes and trees, killing the goblins closest to him. This made the goblins anic as they couldn’t see what was attacking them and many had died already. After sometime, as the goblins began scattering in various directions, Add left his cover and sprung right into the camp. The goblins were surprised to see a human appear so suddenly, but the next moment they understood that this human must have been attacking them, and their confusion and panic turned to rage. They rushed at him to kill, as expected of them. Add also returned fire without ceremony.
*RATATATATATATATA*
The goblins gave wretched cries as the bullets slaughtered them. Within a minute around half of them were dead. Goblins relied on their numbers and agility to attack others, but their bodies themselves were not that strong, after all, the average goblins were slightly weaker than average humans. Against automatic weapons, they were no better than cannon fodder. Although a few goblins managed to get close to him, but they were not able to hurt him, before dying. In a few minutes, Add had slaughtered all the goblins.
[Ding! You have killed Goblin x 43]
[Ding! You have received 4300 Exp. And 2150 CP]
[Ding! You have levelled up!]
[Ding! You have levelled up!]
[Ding! You have levelled up!]
[Current Level 10. Experience required for next level :96/1825]
[Ding! Mission Completed!]
[You have received 20,000 CP. 2x Summoning tickets]
With this he had completed the mission by reaching level 10. Although it was fairly easy, Add wondered if he did not have the gun, perhaps killing all these goblins, without getting a scratch himself would ever have been [possible. If he had to wield a sword and fight so many of them, it would be very dangerous, and he perhaps would not be able to kill all the required numbers of goblins in 5 days. He left the now devastated camp, and found a safe spot to check his gains. He added 2 stat points to vitality which increased his HP to 200; 1 to defence, and 3 to agility. After allocating the stat points, he kept the skill points, to assign them later. He focused his mind on the two summoning tickets. They were automatically stored in his inventory after the mission had been completed.
He had been very intrigued as to what these summoning tickets were. Opening his inventory he saw them labelled as [Shadow Knight summoning ticket].Taking them out of the inventory, they were rectangular pieces of paper with a metallic sheen. The two were coloured in grey and had many runic symbols and shapes drawn on both sides. A familiar blue screen appeared before him and the system immediately issued a prompt.
[Do you wish to use the [Shadow Knight summoning ticket] ?]
“Yes”
[Please focus on the tickets and say ‘Summon’]
“Summon”
Right after he said that, the two tickets in his hands began glowing a with a dull shine and then turned into motes of light, flying off Add’s hands and swirling in the air before him. The motes of light became increasingly brighter and larger until they started merging together and taking humanoid shapes. The light grew so bright that he had to cover his eyes. In a few moments, he light finally died down and as Add opened his eyes, before him, he saw two tall figures standing upright. Their large bodies entire body covered in pitch black armour, like a knight and their heads were also covered with helmets. Their armour appeared to be metallic and both of the figures also had a sword in their right hands and a small shield in their left; the swords and shields were also similarly black in colour. Add estimated that they were more than two metres tall. The two figures were identical and appeared to be simple suits of black armour.
“So these are the [Shadow Knights] ?”
Before he could properly react to this, the system again sounded new notifications.
[Ding! Summoning Successful!]
[Due to certain conditions being met, a new skill has been received!]
[Skill : Contract (Active)
Description : A special skill which allows the user to form a contract; so as to say a bond; with another person, creature, organism, etc. The contract skill works only when both parties mutually consent and cannot be forced on the other party. A contract increases mutual understanding and cooperation between the two parties and also allows the two parties to sense each other’s presence over short distances.
Effect : Creates a soul link between the two parties. Through this link the host can earn Exp and CP from the kills his contracted party does. Additionally, the two parties are prevented from harming each other in any and every way.
Available contracts : 5]
This skill came as quite the surprise to Add. Reading through the description and effects, it was basically similar to the legal contracts back on Earth, just there the law guaranteed the upholding of the terms, while here, the soul did so, or at least that’s what the system said. The part that his contracted party could help him earn Exp. without him actually having to do any work, was very lucrative. After all, trying to get all the CP and Exp. he would need, by himself would be a very tedious and time consuming task. As he wondered why this skill had suddenly dropped before him, he looked at the two [Shadow Knights].
The two knights instantly kneeled on one of their knees, with their sword buried in the ground before them.
[Ding! 2 [Shadow Knights] wish to form a contract with the Host ? Do you accept]
“Accept”
[Ding! Contracting successful!]
[Due to the inanimate nature of their race, the [Shadow Knights] cannot level up, as a compensation, 100% of the Exp. and CP they earn is transferred to their contractor, the Host]
[Host can now see the stats of the contracted party by focusing on them and saying ‘Display Status’]
“They have status too ? Well display status”
Add looked at one Knight and tried to see its status. A status table appeared on his own blue screen.

Both the [Shadow Knights] had the same status. The status layout was similar to that of Add, but there were minor differences. Firstly they could not level up, which meant that they would be forever stuck at level 20. But then again, all the Exp. they earned, would be transferred over to Add. Also their stats appeared to be very good overall for their level, but their wisdom and intelligence were a bit lacking. The skills they had were also basic but were level 1 and could not be further upgraded. He then checked the information of their race through the system. Their concealment skill made them harder to spot especially in dark and dimly lit environments.
[Shadow Knights] : A race of creatures born from the shadows themselves. They are commonly used as summoned warriors. They are non living entities, which ca obey only certain orders from their summoners due to their limited intelligence. They have good fighting capabilities and decently balanced stats, although their defence and durability is better than their attack power. The moves they use are basic and their levels remain fixed from when they are summoned and cannot be increased. Best used as guards these knights can hold their ground against many a tough opponent.
“These are really good”
Add was very impressed with these gifts he had obtained. The knights were currently stronger than him, and could tackle stronger monsters with ease. This would surely speed up his levelling speed. He looked through the System’s help section and learnt that if the summoned being was damaged, it could be repaired over time or using CP. However if it was destroyed, it would be lost forever. He would have to use them carefully, lest he lost these two great assets. The [Shadow Knights] could only understand simple commands so he thought for a moment then spoke to them.
“Knights”
“”Yes Master””
Their voices which were dull and emotionless appeared directly in his head.
“You two go hunt any monsters you can find. Do not attack humans; avoid appearing before humans as much possible. If you encounter strong monsters than yourself, escape immediately. Do not stray too far. Understood ?”
“”As you Command””
The two [Shadow Knights] stood up and walked into the forest. He watched them walk silently and disappear into the thickets, by the level of their intelligence, they should be fine as long as they did not encounter strong monsters. After sometime he also returned home. Now that he had two subordinates to do his grinding, he could focus on the matters of the territory for some time. He now had some CP to spare, so he could buy some important things which he had planned for. There was a lot of work to be done, and he didn’t want to waste a moment
