Roll Land System: Release That Rock - Chapter 28

Roland was sitting down by his desk staring blankly at a blueprint when he heard the door burst open, causing him to jolt slightly. He glanced towards it and saw Nightingale, “What is it, Nightingale? Have you found the Church witch?”

Nightingale nodded and asked hurriedly, “Do I go deal with her now?”

Roland thought for a moment and said. “I’ll find the other witches and notify Carter to secure the exits.” Nightingale nodded but before she left, Roland added, “Oh, and be careful.”

While all this was happening, Dustina and Dustin were stirring from their slumber.

At the barracks, Nightingale returned to find it in chaos and disarray. There was armor strewn along the ground and splashes of blood on the walls. She forcefully grabbed a wide-eyed guard and spat, “What happened? Out with it.”

The guard stammered, “A- a witch massacred many of us at night when we were sleeping! We don’t even know where that witch is now!”

Nightingale glanced at the resting chambers of the guards to find that there were indeed quite a few of them lying motionless on their beds with a streak of red across their necks. The remaining guards were all in disarray.

Roland and the others arrived not long after and Nightingale quickly gave him quick recap of what happened. Roland asked Nightingale, “Do you have any hints about that witch’s abilities?”

Nightingale thought for a brief moment and added, “That witch seems to be able to change her appearance judging from what had happened. I think that the witch needs to kill the one she wants to change her appearance too. I’m not a hundred percent sure about this though. All that I am sure about is that the witch could change her appearance.”

Roland glanced at Carter and ordered, “Calm the guards and have them reorganize here. Make sure that no one can leave this castle. Not a single servant nor a single guard. Not even me.”

Carter nodded and yelled in the voice of a commander, “CALM YOURSELVES! Get in formation! NOW!”

The guards who were hurriedly scrambling to try to find the witch paused. Slowly, they returned to standing in organized rows before Carter. While there were looks of bitterness and anger among them, all of them orderly stood and awaited orders.

Roland addressed them, “Make sure nobody leaves this castle. I promise you, that witch will not be able to leave this castle alive. Bring anyone who tries to leave to me. Also, tell anyone you see in the castle to come here. Keep a record of who is dead and who is present.”

Nightingale looked at Roland and asked, “Are you planning on doing a headcount of who is remaining?”

Anna replied for Roland and said, “Judging from what you said about that witch’s powers, when we see that there is a duplicate of someone here, then one of them will be the witch. Even if that witch copied off of someone’s dead body, we have all of the dead guards here with us so we know who they are.”

Roland added in, “If that witch returns- even if she killed another guard- you can just interrogate them all at once by asking if any of them are a witch.”

Unaware of the chaos occurring nearby, Dustina and Dustin groggily woke up and asked, “What happened?”
