Rosie Gentleman - Chapter 4
I twisted and turned, locking my gaze toward the open curtains of the window. Sara liked to keep windows opened at all times, and so here I was in the guest room, the walls dark with shade as the windows let the moonlight soak through. I shivered as looked out the window. I could see the shovel discarded on the ground we’re I dug, the Ouija board still in it’s grave. I heaved a sigh as I turned around and tried to get back to heavenly sleep. Try as I might, my eyes lifted their heavy lids, and I turned back around with a frustrated groan.
There was nothing to worry about. I kept telling myself this, and yet I still couldn’t even get a wink of sleep. I closed my eyes for a brief second and sat up on the mattress. I gave another sigh and curled my arms around my self, I looked around the dark room and tried to calm myself. I was just being paranoid, the board was deep in the ground, I said goodbye, and nothing bad happened, I thought as I tried to calm myself. I laid back down, cuddled the stuffed unicorn I brought close to my chest, and curled in the bed.
“Go to sleep…go to sleep…there’s nothing there…” I whispered to my self as I tried to get some shut eye. Soon enough, I felt my eyes close and I released a sigh of content as I dreamed of nothing.

The next morning, I woke to the sound of birds and the sunlight rich of my face. I closed my eyes and turned the other way as I released a yawn and opened my eyes slowly. Sluggishly sitting upon the bed, I stared at the blank wall ahead as I lazily stared for twenty minutes.
“Wakey wakey!”
My heart leaped out of my chest as I gasped and jumped straight up, Sara casually strolled into the room with the smell of pancakes and tea.
“Hey sleepy head you’re early!” Sara giggled as she skipped towards the bed. Poking me on the sides. I yelled in protest as I ran out the door, with a giggling Sara behind me and my stuffed unicorn.
“No”, I gasped “Sara!” I yelled out of breath. Hugging my fluffy unicorn close to my chest, I giggled and brushed my messy hair through my fingers. Sara’s crazy laughter rang through the house as we sat for breakfast. While stuffing my pancakes into my mouth, I was curiously concerned about how Sara fared last night.
“Did you not have trouble sleeping last night?” I asked while slicing another slice for myself. I wanted to make sure she was alright, she was family to me after all. Sara looked up from her dish pursed her lips, and gave a “thinking” face.
“Nope, not really, well I couldn’t sleep for some time, but I had no monsters in my dreams.” Sara replied as she slice her pancake. I released a breath as I continued through my meal, but then I thought, I couldn’t sleep for a while, and if Sara couldn’t either, was our horror story about to begin? As I kept thinking of all the possibilities of terrible things taking place in the house, I noticed Sara giving me her, “what’s going on”, face.
“What?”
“Oh nothing, just that your making one of your worry wrinkles on your face. Did you have a hard time sleeping too Rosie?”
I looked at the red head as I chewed, and gulped a bit of orange juice down while nodding.
“Hey Sara, what would you do… if things started to go wrong from here?” I muttered loud enough for her to hear. She gave me one of her biggest toothy smiles, and her eyes sparkled as she spoke.
“You know how exciting that’ll be!” Sara squealed like a baby, getting her favorite blanket back from the washing machine.
“I would communicate and befriend the ghost! And maybe write a book and make a movie about it and get rich! Oh oh! And and and!” As Sara rambled on, I sighed, I should’ve known she would say something like this. Sara’s pretty reckless, she would also laugh in the face of danger. She was one of those people who would get back at you by embarrassing you in front of everyone, seriously, this girl had no shame. Or fear for that matter. In short, Sara was pretty crazy.
“So basically you would make a movie out of this?” I said as I stabbed through another piece.
“Yup! And I’m going to make sure your beside me on it all!” She said while munching on her slice
I grinned as I finished my breakfast, and swallowed the last of my juice and took the plate into the sink. Sara placed her plate in the sink and turned to me with a huge grin.
“So Rosie? When can I visit your apartment?”
“My apartment?” I echoed back, I thought for a moment, but cringed at how messy the place was. I moved in just this summer and the place was as crappy as ever, but i managed to decorate it cutely.
“Maybe.” I hummed in a singsong voice.
“Oh please Rosie! I let you stay almost all the time here! Let’s have a sleepover at your place next!” Sara begged and pleaded like her life depended on it. I was a little hesitant since she could be quite nosy, but then again I was always staying at her place so why not.
“Ok fine. As long as you don’t go snooping in my fridge and pantry again, clear?”
“Oki doki loki!” She sang loudly while dancing around. I laughed with Sara and started to skip around with her, forgetting all about the Ouija board.
I am on fire!
