Royal Lotus - Chapter 15
I looked at my mother who sat across from me, embroidering on an handkerchief. She had a serene smile placed upon her face, but I found myself feeling uneasy as I thought about the ways in which I could inform her of the order his majesty placed on me. Coco, who stood at the side, noticed the intense gaze I held towards my mother and walked over to my side. As she knelt down, she whispered, “Is everything okay, Milady?”
I frowned, my brows furrowing, “Could you leave us alone for a bit?”
Coco nodded before scurrying out the door. Noticing our exchange, my mother looked at me questioningly. I stood up and walked over to where she was before planting myself next to her. She remained quiet as I did so. It was strange facing my mother when she was in such a peaceful state. Even in my old life, the times she was ‘happy’ or ‘satisfied’, you could see madness in her eyes. But the madness I was so used to seeing was no longer visible at the moment. And I appreciated that. The only question now was, when is she going to snap again?
Because while I pray it wouldn’t happen, the future was – is – always uncertain. And that, surprisingly, scared me. Especially when I thought about the ways in which I could die.
“In two month I am to become the princess’s study partner,” I said, staring at the table in front of us. Perhaps it was because I was so used to it, but I expected her to start rambling on about ways in which we could scheme to get rid of his majesty’s true family. However, she didn’t say anything. Curious, I look up at her, and found sweat gliding down her forehead. She dropped the handkerchief, as well as the needle onto the floor and clutched onto her head, groaning in pain.

I looked at her in alarm. Placing an hand on her arm, a hot spark shot through my gloved hand, making me hiss in pain and pull away from her.
“Coco!” I yelled. The door slammed open as Coco rushed in, her face flushed with confusion and surprise. She hurried over to look over the state my mother was in before rushing out the door to get Draco and Becca. As soon as the other two were informed of what happened, Draco made his way to where we were and picked up my mother, who was now unconscious, before carrying her over to her room. Becca, on the other hand, rushed to the castle to ask for an royal doctor. I found myself feeling useless in this child body of mine while watching the adults try to help my mother.
Twenty minutes later, I waited outside her room, waiting to for the doctor to come out and tell me what is was that caused my mother to collapse like that. Arms wrapped around me from behind and I sighed.
“What are you doing here, Jiro?” I asked, not bothering to push away from his hold.
“I came to inform you that the boy, Phillip, is in trouble and is currently waiting outside. But since you’re busy with your mother, I can handle the situation for you?”
I shook my head, “That’s fine. I just suggest you leave before the adults come out.”
I felt a soft kiss be planted on the back of my head before the warmth that held onto me disappeared. I shook my head at his actions, and walked down the hall. It seems I wasn’t going to be given peace anytime soon.
