Saving the overbearing CEO - Chapter 491
Wen Danzhe felt helpless as he had run out of ideas. If money couldn’t make his brother happy then what would? Did Wen Qinxi want him to drag Qie Ranzhe over and beat him up till he married his brother? This plan wasn’t feasible neither would he approve so Wen Danzhe was left with no choice but to softly coax him.
His attempts were all futile that is until his mother banged at the apartment door like a police officer. As soon as he opened the door his mother walked in a hurry looking everywhere for her firstborn. She held a bento in her hand looking like she was about to beat up someone. “Where is he? Who hurt my baby?” she asked placing the bento on the coffee table before rolling up her sleeves.
Her motto, ‘if you fuck with her babies then you better be ready to face an angry mama bear’. Wen Qinxi heard the commotion in the sitting area and got out of his bed to see his mother. He is not a mama’s boy but he really missed his mother in the past months and just wanted to hold her.
When Mama Wen saw her son’s state her heart broke into tiny pieces as she embraced him. His eyes were swollen, his hair dishevelled and long with a stubble on his chin. The deep sadness in his eyes was apparent.
In as much as she wanted to know what happened, she knew this wasn’t the time to ask. She sat him down but Wen Qinxi wouldn’t let go. So mother and son embraced as she mouthed to Wen Danzhe asking, “What happened?”
Wen Danzhe shook his head before rushing to the kitchen to get some cutlery and eat the food in the bento that was tantalizing him. Because he couldn’t cook he could only survive on snacks last night which he tried to share with his brother but Wen Qinxi refused to eat.
As soon as he reached out for the bento his hand was smacked by his mother. “Are you heartbroken?”
Wen Danzhe shook his head and his mother replied, “then it’s not for you,” before pulling the bento closer to Wen Qinxi. She opened it up and the soothing fragrance of a home-cooked meal filled the air. Wen Danzhe gulped while holding his chopsticks.
“Eat up honey, you must be hungry,” she said coaxing Wen Qinxi while stroking his hair, “no need to be sad. Mummy is here.”
Wen Qinxi thanked her and pushed the bento between him and Wen Danzhe so they could share. He didn’t have much of an appetite but the love his mother put into preparing this meal compelled him to eat.
Mama Wen watched her two boys eat with a smile on her face. Her greatest wish was for her children to be happy and to achieve that she tried to provide them with the best environment but she couldn’t protect them from the outside world. All she could do was educate them and be there for them when something like this happens.
After they finished eating Wen Qinxi lay his head on his mother’s lap while she asked him questions about his project. She didn’t understand any of the tech stuff but she wanted to take his mind off things and it worked.
Once her son started talking about software and programming he would put on an unknowing smile. She listened to him till he fell asleep.
As soon as she finished tucking in her son she went after the only other person who could possibly know what happened to Wen Qinxi.
Wen Danzhe was completely unaware that he was about to be his mother’s target standing by the fridge looking for something to drink. He could sense something was up so he looked back but found no one.
He shrugged his shoulders and picked up a can of energy drink. He opened it and took a sip as he closed the fridge door only to be met by his mother standing there like a ghost in a horror movie.
He spat out a mouthful of the energy drink in his mouth out of fright. “Ma!” he yelled while hurriedly wiping the counter.
“Shh, he’s sleeping… so tell me. What happened?” she asked like an interrogator from Guantanamo Bay.
There was no way in hell he was going to tell her otherwise his mother would only make things worse. Either two things would happen. One, she would gather her mahjong friends and use baseball bats to destroy Qie Ranzhe’s car. Two, she would camp in front of GameX with her group of friends and demand Qie Ranzhe take responsibility. On second thought, she would most likely do both.
“Which girl did it, huh? I am going to teach her a fuckin lesson…. give me her address,” she said closing the distance between them.
“Ma, language, please,” he said moving as far as possible from her, “plus I don’t know anything. He was like that when I picked him up from work.”
“How can you not know? You two are like two peas in a pod. You behave like fraternal twins so how can you not know. Are you lying to me? Is it something far worse than a breakup? Is she pregnant with another man’s baby? Is that it?”
Question after question was fired at him like a missile but he kept his mouth shut. If his mother found out his brother was bent by his boss only to be dumped at the end, she would explode.
“I really don’t know. He wouldn’t tell me,” he said with one foot out the door. He wouldn’t snitch on his brother unless it was a life and death situation and this didn’t count as an emergency.
“Fine, don’t tell me….. I will solve it myself,” she said dialling her phone.
“Wait,… Ma, what are you doing?” he asked thinking she was calling GameX. That wouldn’t end well if she did.
“I am calling auntie Lang…. remember she opened a matchmaking company. I am going to find your brother a new girlfriend. That ought to teach that bitch a lesson. Ahem, auntie Lang….. it’s me,”
“Oh shit,” mumbled Wen Danzhe before silently slipping away to warn Wen Qinxi but his head was suddenly hit by a fluffy loaf of bread. There was no need to guess who did it.
“I will get you one as well if you say anything to him,” she whispered covering the mic on her cellphone before resuming with her call.
“Yes…. yes….. for my eldest son. A beautiful and kind one… yes….. she should also be serious. The marriage kind….. mhm… okay, next week,” she said on the phone while Wen Danzhe secretly lit a candle for his brother. This was going to be interesting.
