Saving the overbearing CEO - Chapter 496
There is nothing as sexy as a man eyeing you like you are the only one in his eyes, the only one he would ever look at like that. Everything fades into the background and no one else matters but you. His gaze might fleet elsewhere but he would glance over to your direction constantly with a lingering passionate gaze that could have your blood boiling.
This is exactly what Qie Ranzhe was doing on that platform. He couldn’t control himself as his actions were almost like an involuntary response.
It wasn’t only the look but the body language as well. Besides him putting his hand on Wen Qinxi’s thigh his head would unconsciously tilt towards the nerd quite often. He would also find himself subconsciously mirroring Wen Qinxi which most people would overlook but if a body language expert or fujoshi was present at that press conference the entire world would find out that their relationship was anything but impersonal.
Even when they left the platform, Qie Ranzhe seemed to find excuses to touch Wen Qinxi be it his arm, his shoulder or leg. To anyone with an average EQ, one could tell something was up but Wen Qinxi didn’t notice all that as his brain short-circuited a long time ago.
That journalist’s question had him patting his pockets looking for his cellphone but that’s when he recalled Wen Danzhe had it. A familiar deep voice reverberated in his ears asking, “What are you looking for?” with the person standing right behind him.
Wen Qinxi felt his entire back stiffen with his heart beating hard against his chest. The whole engagement news set him off his bearings so much that he just wanted to be as far away as possible from Qie Ranzhe. Sure, Qie Ranzhe denied it but if he hadn’t seen the two of them kissing in the hospital with his own two eyes, he would have believed him.
He was about to respond when Wen Danzhe suddenly showed up out of nowhere. It was evident that he had been running because he was panting heavily as he stood at the door. “Seriously, you just left without saying a word….. why are you so heartless?” he said before striding in. He wrapped his arms around Wen Qinxi’s shoulder with a sly smile directed at Qie Ranzhe.
The CEO suddenly had a bad premonition so he said, “Can we talk before you go?” asking Wen Qinxi but the nerd didn’t want to talk right now. The issue was could he really reject his boss?
Thankfully Wen Danzhe wasn’t the polite kind. He shamelessly spoke on his brother’s behalf saying, “He’s still on leave and besides our mother is waiting so you guys can talk on Monday,” before pulling his brother along.
The man didn’t even give Qie Ranzhe the opportunity to respond and even went as far as placing his hand behind his back and raise his middle finger at Qie Ranzhe with a malicious grin. Wen Qinxi naturally didn’t notice anything allowing his brother to drag him along.
Qie Ranzhe’s brow twitched watching these two leave. He knew that Wen Danzhe was deliberately making things hard for him. It’s just that he didn’t think he would go this far. He would have thought Wen Danzhe’s behaviour unreasonable but after seeing the things he did for himself, he could understand.
He looked down at the half drunk bottle of water in his hands and grinned before he unscrewed the bottle cap to finish it off. He licked his bottom lip with a sinister look on his face as he mumbled, “Tastes so sweet…..”
While Qie Ranzhe was concocting a plan to outsmart his future brother in law and conquer his first love, the Zhao Family was a mess. Zhao Huangzhi had deliberately hinted at an engagement but who would have thought Qie Ranzhe would deny it upfront. She threw her heels at the TV in frustration especially when she saw that person right beside Qie Ranzhe.
The heel was stuck on the TV with elongated vines from the cracks as the image glitched. She couldn’t understand what was so special about Wen Qinxi that interested Qie Ranzhe.
The face wasn’t exceptional, the chest was as flat as an ironing board and the body was nothing worth mentioning but he still managed to make Qie Ranzhe look at him like that. She regretted everything, all of it. She should have never listened to her father. She could have been Mrs Qie by now or at least about to be.
After throwing a fit wrecking her bedroom she finally had an epiphany. There is only one person in this world that could influence Qie Ranzhe and that person is the woman who gave birth to him. Her anger was soon replaced by an eerie smile that could scare a turtle back into its shell.
***
The rumour about the engagement was all Zhao Huangzhi but the one about Qie Ranzhe being stuck in Flagship for months had absolutely nothing to do with her. She was all for his success because if he succeeds her father wouldn’t oppose their union at all.
Mr Zhao was a proper businessman who only did things that benefitted him which extended to his daughters. In his eyes, every one of them had to play a part and if you aren’t useful to him then you might as well go leave outside and never return home.
So she had no desire to see Qie Ranzhe fail. The real culprit was walking up the stairs in the Qie mansion with his hand in his pocket as he headed to his father’s office.
Over the years Qie Anzhie had been under so much pressure taking over the Qie family business little by little but because he possessed little to no talent when it came to running a business, he had to work like a dog just to make up for it.
His father was satisfied with his performance for a very long time that is until cracks began to form with the profit margin dropping the more responsibilities Qie Anzhie took on. Though things weren’t as good as before the situation was reversible so his father didn’t reprimand him as much. That is until his older brother who was meant to mentor him suddenly started his own company out of the blue.
At first, he didn’t care about it thinking it would eventually fail because the man didn’t have any capital. Their father also suppressed him by blocking investors but his influence didn’t extend to foreign investors and the Dai family.
Qie Ranzhe managed to build something from nothing. A fast-growing company that had surpassed the Qie family business, a business that had been running for three generations.
This didn’t settle well with Qie Anzhie because his father started nitpicking at him none stop. He got yelled at even for the smallest mistake which was driving him crazy. His father had grown distant possibly regretting his decision for picking Qie Anzhie as the successor from the beginning.
