Saving the overbearing CEO - Chapter 516
This assistant had seen plenty of fights in his line of work. Catfights, screaming matches and hardcore brawls but never this kind. The two people were sitting facing each other in silence but the atmosphere was so heavy that you could cut the tension with a knife.
Dai Lee was the first to break the silence. She placed her glass on the table as she spoke, “Thank you for saving him. If it weren’t for you my son would be a vegetable for life so…. thank you.” There might have been an intense smell of gunpowder lingering in the air but these words were spoken from the heart. She was truly grateful for this boy who sacrificed himself for her son.
Wen Qinxi’s heart skipped a beat taken by surprise. He hadn’t expected the first words out of her mouth would be thank you. This turn of events was unexpected. “I… it’s no problem,” replied Wen Qinxi feeling a sense of unease.
The waiter delivered some dishes and the two of them started eating. Dai Lee didn’t speak for a long time just watching him from the corner of her eye. This man was good looking but there were plenty of good looking men out there so why would her son like this man specifically.
From this outfit alone she could tell he was a nerd of the highest order with a hint of naivety in him making him seem easy to bully. If she didn’t know any better she would think her son forced him into a relationship.
“I take it the shares are compensation enough for saving my son from that predicament?” she asked before wiping the corner of her lips with a napkin.
When she heard about it from that secretary who she planned on firing after this, she was angry thinking that the vixen had not only bent his son in high school but also cheated him out of his money.
The old her would have gone full psycho on Wen Qinxi without a second thought but she calmed herself and seriously thought this through. Her son might be infatuated with someone but when it came to his money he was extremely frugal.
This meant there had to be a good reason why Qie Ranzhe would just hand over his hard work just like that. After conversing with Machu she was enlightened. Her son had never mentioned the name of the person who saved him this meant she didn’t know that the so-called vixen was their benefactor.
With this knowledge, she was no longer mad about the shares. It’s just money, they can make more. The problem was that her son still had a thing for this man after all these years. She didn’t like it, she wanted her son to have a wife and child in the future but she also knew how stubborn her son was.
Curious to see the face of the man who had stolen her son’s heart she just had to abduct him before Qie Ranzhe caught on. “It’s too much actually but… Ran, um… Mr Qie insisted so…,” he said nervously wiping the sweat off his palms.
He remained vigilant wondering what this woman planned to do next. Dai Lee was the kind of woman who wouldn’t hesitate to scratch his face to protect her son. Just like his mother, this woman right here was the very definition of a mama bear with sharp claws.
“I am glad to hear that so… do you really have to be with him as well? I mean half of his life’s work now rightfully belongs to you so do you really want him to devote his entire life to you as well,” she said dropping a hydrogen bomb without warning.
“And there it is,” he mumbled dropping the spoon in his bowl with a clang. He was glad he didn’t drop his guard. Like toast, she buttered him up first before swallowing him whole.
“I am just saying. You have parents too, right? Don’t they want a little dumpling from you as well?” she explained her piercing gaze stuck on him like the Mona Lisa.
“There are plenty of unconventional ways to get a grandchild and besides, isn’t it what matters most is being happy? We only have one life to live so what’s the point of being miserable just to satisfy the rest of society,” said Wen Qinxi feeling a little flustered.
He honestly couldn’t understand it. For the sake of having kids and meeting other people’s expectations, some people subject themselves to a life of misery.
What saddened him the most was more often than not it’s families that squeeze their kids so much without considering the other person’s feelings. All anyone wants is to live a happy and tranquil life, is that too much to ask for?
It seemed Dai Lee didn’t expect that kind of response. She did want her son to be happy but she didn’t want him to invest himself in unrequited love that would yield to nothing wasting his life away.
Seeing that she didn’t respond he continued, “Or you would rather he spends the rest of his life with Zhao Huangzhi just because she can give you a grandchild and I can’t?”
“Fuck no… not in a million years. That green tea bitch better stay fifty no a hundred meters away from my son otherwise I will sink her at the bottom of the ocean with a concrete brick tied to her neck…..,” she said with her chest heaving as she slammed the table with a loud bang.
Her actions attracted the other guests in the restaurant but no one was as startled as Wen Qinxi. ‘There she is…. the ruthless woman who will tear the enemy to bits just to protect her cub,’ he thought his entire body frozen stiff. He subconsciously touched his neck imagining himself in Zhao Huangzhi’s place.
Dai Lee seemed to notice she had let her emotions get the best of her so she cleared her throat and said, “Don’t ever mention her name in front of me,” before raising her glass to moisten her dry throat.
Wen Qinxi pursed his lips looking hesitant. He wanted to tell her that he truly liked her son and would surely make him happy but judging from her angry appearance just now he kept his mouth shut otherwise he would be sleeping with the fishes tonight.
Once she had calmed down a little she said, “Do you have some sort of charm on you or did you use some type of spell on him that he would be so infatuated with you for such a long time? I mean most people have already forgotten their first love’s name but here you are. He even kept that necklace you are wearing for almost a decade. That’s too abnormal.”
Yes, she knew about that matching pair of necklaces because it was her jeweller who designed it. Her son had gone behind her back and contacted them but of course, they wouldn’t conceal that from her.
