Saving the overbearing CEO - Chapter 543
Wen Qinxi’s hand reached out from under the quilt and lazily felt around for the cellphone. Once he caught it his hand vanished under the quilt with the bright light from the screen illuminating his soft features.
They were more than a dozen missed calls since the previous night till today and most of them were from unknown numbers. He didn’t look through anything, he just muted the ringtone but when he swiped down he saw a message notification.
From a glimpse, he caught the words son and sorry and you are still my own flesh and blood. He raised a brow before placing the cellphone back on the pedestal. He then searched around for his cellphone which had fallen under the bed when they ruined the sheets.
As soon as he opened up Weibo, he almost got a heart attack. There was a lot of breaking news on his feed mainly about either the Qie family or the Zhao family. Dirty secrets, corruption scandals, you name it, it was all there. Not only that but Qie Anzhie had been singled out for sex trafficking at his downtown nightclub.
Wen Qinxi’s brows creased as he put two and two together. He got beaten by Qie Anzhie yesterday and now the haughty prince had fallen off his throne overnight, how could he not know who orchestrated this?
His boyfriend had obviously gone berserk and took two families down all at once. He was like Godzilla rampaging through the streets destroying their reputation and businesses overnight. He hurriedly sat up straight only to wince in pain when he remembered last night’s shenanigans.
With his back resting against the headboard, he scrolled through the phone with a mobile expression. It seemed these companies had no chance to recover and even if they recovered it wouldn’t be the same as before.
There was also news about the most recent Madam Qie’s campaign to out the original heir of the Qie family. How she as an outsider not only wrecked a family but also how she ensured her son’s position on the high table. This made Wen Qinxi sympathize with Qie Ranzhe.
From a young age, he was surrounded by vipers who were also supposed to be the people he was meant to trust. They switched his grandfather’s will and robbed him of everything that rightfully belonged to him.
Their lives seemed worlds apart from each other. The one time his family member betrayed him was when Wen Danzhe lied that Wen Qinxi had taken his piece of chicken which he himself had eaten and that happened when Wen Danzhe was only three years old. Other than his greedy brother wanting more meat that was it.
He suddenly felt like hugging Qie Ranzhe, a warm big hug. He fixed his messy hair and put on his slippers. Qie Ranzhe had helped him take a bath earlier so all he had to do was put on his slippers and go downstairs.
The shirtless Qie Ranzhe was standing in front of the microwave with a tablet in his hand. His expression was sullen as he seriously read the instructions. Give him a legal document and he would be able to decipher it in a matter of minutes but anything to do with cooking was like trying to teach programming to a toddler.
Wen Qinxi snuck up on him and slid his arms around Qie Ranzhe’s waist with his head resting on Qie Ranzhe’s back. Qie Ranzhe turned his head backwards as much as he can and asked, “Where you that impatient that you had to come down to hunt for food?” while placing his hand on Wen Qinxi’s that was wound around his waist.
His smile was as radiant as the morning sun. If someone had told him a year ago that he would be dating his first love he wouldn’t have believed it. If it was a fortune teller he would have put them out of business by now. This was nothing but wishful thinking years ago.
“Nope….. I just wanted to give you a big bear hug and tell you that I…,” he said with his hands tightening around Qie Ranzhe’s waist. He wanted to say the L word but found that he was incredibly shy saying it out loud.
“You what?” asked Qie Ranzhe in a soft tone wondering what his lover wanted to say. Negative thoughts were already looming over his head at this moment. He could only suppress them and squash down his insecurities.
This was his nature and he couldn’t easily get rid of it. He had been betrayed plenty of times by his family that his mind couldn’t help but veer in that direction for some reason. He made it a priority to work on himself and not let these negative emotions affect his sweetheart. This man was incredibly hard to catch so why would he deliberately sabotage himself when he had finally caught his prey.
“I love you,” whispered Wen Qinxi in a barely audible voice but because of Qie Ranzhe’s especially good hearing, he heard it. His heart leapt out of his chest as a blush crept up his face all of a sudden. His sweetheart was honeying him up with sweet words out of the blue so how could he not blush.
His Adam’s apple bobbed just as he cleared his throat. “I love you too,” he said seeming a little nervous. He was so nervous that his palms became clammy. He had to hold the tablet well otherwise it could easily slip out of his hand in an instant. Satisfied, Wen Qinxi released him and hopped on the countertop asking him, “What are you doing?” peeking on the tablet but the screen suddenly turned black like he was hiding something.
“Ahem…. nothing… just, just go upstairs. I have got this,” he fumbled through his words hiding the tablet behind his back. But Mama Wen didn’t raise a fool. It took him five seconds to realise what was going on.
Wen Qinxi’s cheeks slightly puffed up suppressing a snicker. This man was trying to figure out how to operate the microwave. Wen Qinxi strongly believed that he even searched how long to heat each food item and what temperature is just right. “Let me,” he said but Qie Ranzhe refused.
He handed the tablet over instead and said, “You instruct and I will do it.”
Wen Qinxi playfully swung his legs while saying, “Turn it on at the button in the corner,” as the dim tablet suddenly lit up. It was an email with the subject urgent so he passed it to Qie Ranzhe saying it’s your mother.
“Oh,” replied Qie Ranzhe taking it but just as he took it Wen Qinxi’s cellphone also received a notification. It was his mother and strangely enough, it was also marked as urgent.
The moment they opened those emails the two of them froze on the spot. It was a full wedding plan with everything from the venue to the guest list even outfits. “Fuck!” swore Wen Qinxi realising something. Their mums had met behind their backs.
