Saving the overbearing CEO - Chapter 544
Three things can happen when in-laws meet for the first time. One, there might be awkward silence and inward snorting as they secretly judge each other. Two, there could be disagreements among them which might escalate into a conflict. Three, the atmosphere could be harmonious and high spirited. And then there were these two.
The atmosphere was harmonious, alright but the two women had obviously drunk a little too much. Even Mama Wen the veteran drinker was utterly wasted. Worst of all they were planning a wedding drunk which meant some terrible choices were made.
For instance, the venue options were in the middle of the Amazon forest so the new couple could get blessings from mother nature or option two the Himalayas mountains to freeze all the negative energy out of the newlyweds’ relationship. The intentions were good but the logic was seriously flawed.
Let’s not even mention the guest list. They dared to add twinkie the kid as a guest. Why on earth would the mascot for twinkies be at their wedding? Wen Qinxi already knew who between the two added this particular guest to the list. His mother was definitely still eating twinkies it’s just that she had hidden the contraband elsewhere because they couldn’t find traces of the stash in the house whenever he and his brother visited.
The two men left their apartment in a hurry and drove to Mama Wen’s place. When they got there these two women were giggling and chatting like old friends. They were obviously out of it. Wen Qinxi walked over and grabbed the bottle of baijiu with only a third left out of his mother’s hand.
With the bottle disappearing right out of her hand Mama Wen’s eyes widened in disbelief. She shakily leaned forward, poked Dai Lee in the arm and whispered, “It’s gone… I had it in my hands and now,” searching looking down at her hands and then back up at Dai Lee, “It’s gone…..”
Dai Lee chortled and stammered, “No, no, no….. gone yes bu-but it, it was him….. he robbed you. Huh? You, where is the skirt? It was pretty?”
Her question was directed at Wen Qinxi making him relive the incident earlier. He glared at the culprit who he blamed for this entire mess. Qie Ranzhe felt the heated gaze boring into his skin so he stared back at him apologetically. It was 99.991% his fault so he willingly accepted the glare.
“Mum,” he said rushing over to take his troublemaking mother away.
If she was left to continue talking he might get into even bigger trouble with Wen Qinxi so he rushed over to shut her up but the matchstick had already been struck.
“You-you know my son over, over here is the…. um…. the attack-… no the receiver in this-,” said Mama Wen before she was rudely interrupted by her son.
“Ma!” yelled Wen Qinxi but Mama Wen simply waved him off with her index finger on her lips.
“Shh shh shh… mum is talking,” she said before looking at Dai Lee, “He is the….. um….. the what’s that word. Oh, oh. I go-got it. He is the…. shou,” she paused for dramatic effect before whispering the S word like she was telling a dirty secret to her classmate.
“Wah!” replied Dai Lee gasping with interest like she knew what it meant but as shown in a few seconds she had zero idea what it meant. “What does that mean?” she said leaning in closer for the details.
“Oh, when a man and a…..” explained Mama Wen but she was yet again cut off.
“Ma!” yelled Wen Qinxi unable to bear it anymore.
Mama Wen closed her mouth with her hand like she was preventing her uncontrollable mouth from spilling out secrets. “I will tell you whe-when he is gone,” she said making Wen Qinxi massage his forehead in frustration.
Mama Wen might have stopped talking but Dai Lee was too curious. She gently elbowed her son and asked while partially covering her mouth as though to prevent Wen Qinxi from reading her lips though he could clearly hear what she was saying. “What is a shou….. and if he is a shou then what are you?”
“Oh god,” said Mama Wen snickering with her mouth closed. Wen Qinxi looked down at the bottle he had just confiscated and drank it all down. The two watched him drink it with a look of admiration on their faces. By the time Qie Ranzhe had reached over to grab the bottle, it was already empty.
“Ma, your playdate is over. Come on, time for bed,” said Wen Qinxi placing the empty bottle on the kitchen counter.
Mama Wen wasn’t pleased by his words as she replied solemnly. “But we still have liquor, she can’t leave till all the liquor is gone,” she said pouting like a three-year-old.
“This was the last one. Ma, don’t be stubborn,” he said struggling to coax his mother. If it was any other day he would accompany her to drink but today his boyfriend and future mother in law were here and he didn’t want to be embarrassed any further than this.
“It’s because you drank, drank it all. How, how unfilial. I am going to tell your father at the next tomb-sweeping day,” she said with an aggrieved tone.
Wen Qinxi almost rolled his eyes at her when the apartment door opened. “I am home,” said Wen Danzhe about to take off his shoes that is until he saw the scene in the apartment and his actions paused.
Liquor bottles, tipsy mother and snacks including empty twinkie wrappers equals… “No, no, I am not doing this. Goodbye,” said Wen Danzhe before fixing his shoe that was half off. He immediately opened the door and left closing the it softly behind him.
Qie Ranzhe, “…..”
Dai Lee, “…..”
“You see even he doesn’t want to deal with your drama when you are like this,” said Wen Qinxi feeling glad that at least she hadn’t started scolding his father, “don’t make trouble otherwise your new friend won’t come over anymore.”
This threat seemed to work because she raised her hand seeking help to get up. “Let’s play tomorrow,” she said almost sounding like a preschooler.
Wen Qinxi helped her to the bedroom and immediately dialled Wen Danzhe’s number. The call wasn’t picked up the first time so he cut it and sent Wen Danzhe a message. In the well-lit bedroom, the only sounds were coming from the cellphone tapping and his mother’s light breathing.
She wasn’t sleeping. In fact, she was obediently sitting there waiting for Wen Qinxi’s command. As soon as that text message was sent Wen Danzhe who had vanished earlier on abruptly opened the apartment door and politely greeted the guests before rushing over to his mother’s bedroom. He placed his laptop bag on the dressing table and said, “Go on, I will take care of her. You don’t have to worry about anything.”
He was even gently pushing his brother out of the room with a smile that reached his eyes.
