Second Chance: Raising A Yandere Demon Lord - Chapter 28
Under her oppressive gaze, it was difficult for Dennis to maintain his composure. Nevertheless, having heard stories of how short her temper was at times, Dennis did not show any signs of hesitancy as he nodded.
The idea of killing people sounded terrifying to him, and in order to stop his hands from shivering, he clenched his hand into a tight fist. Regardless of how hard he tried, he was unable to calm his heart down.
“Since you have done a good job, it is only natural for me to reward you. State your wish,” Odette spoke out.
The name of reward led to his eyes widening. Although he had done that to get rid of Adrian, he never expected to get a reward on the behalf of it. This gave rise to joy within him, pushing back all the negative emotions, and got himself motivated. He might get rewarded further if he kept up with being this ruthless.
About the reward, there were many things Dennis desired for. However, he did not believe that all of them would be appropriate. Since this was a rare chance offered to him, he had to think carefully before answering.
“I want ten silver coins,” Dennis answered.
Hearing the boy’s answer, she could see that he was being careful with his choice yet there was sign of greediness within it. Nonetheless, she did not mind that greediness for that would be a great catalyst to her.
Ten silver coins did not make much of a difference to her. However, Odette was aware of how useful that amount of coin would be to Dennis.
Widening the smile on her face, she voiced out, “Sure, ten silver coins then. Keep up the good work if you want to be rewarded further.”
Bowing at the female before him, Dennis vocalised, “Thank you for your kindness, Lady Odette. I will be sure to not disappoint you in the future.”
Adrian opened his eyes slightly, and as the bright light hit his eyes, he clenched his eyes shut. His entire body felt sore, and a groan escaped from his mouth as he squinted his eyes open.
Memories from what had happened before he lost his consciousness flooded back inside of his mind, and he vaguely recalled seeing Odette before everything turned dark for him.
Seeing that he was in his bed at the servant’s quarter, he knew that he was saved by Odette, and joy spread through his chest for he was rescued from that terrible place.
At that instant, the memories of all that had happened entered into his mind, and his features turned visibly pale. Adrian’s hands began to tremble as he gulped.
All the torture inflicted upon his felt vivid to him, and this place felt quite frightening to him. Adrian craved for his mother’s warmth at that instant, and tears formed at the corner of his eyes.
As a tear trailed down his cheeks, the maid beside him realized that he had woken up, and standing up from the chair, she spoke out, “Oh! Adrian, you are awake now. I will go and call Lady Odette.”
Hearing that voice Adrian turned to look at the maid, and seeing that she turned her back on him, more fear began to rise within him.
Gripping on to the bedsheets tightly, he cried, “Annie, don’t go!”
Annie was the only maid at this place, who treated him better than everyone, and being left alone at this room caused fear to rise within the five year old. He was afraid that the man from earlier would appear and take him away.
The thought of that cold and dark prison caused Adrian to feel nauseous all of a sudden, and at that moment, he felt the bile rise up from his throat. If it was not for the fact that he was starved, he would have thrown up.
Hearing boy’s pained boy, Annie turned back and vocalised, “Lady Odette will be angry if I don’t call her. Just wait here a few more minutes. You are safe now. Nothing will happen.”
Even Annie herself was not aware of what Odette would do to Adrian. Odette was known for her cruel and unexpected decisions, and have grown attached to the small boy, she hoped for no harm to come upon the boy.
With that, Annie extended her hand to hold on to the knob of the door, and pulling the door open, she walked out of the room with one last glance at Adrian.
