Secrets of the Universe - Chapter 179
His question was sound. Whatever the item was, it meant nothing good. He could hear her fixing its mechanism with her nails. He could also hear the doft sound of metals clashing against one another.
After a lot of staring, the female candidate finally opened her mouth.
What flowed out was the normal [Universal Language] mixed with an old accent, which Jake couldn’t put his fingers on, “Very well, I will tell you since you are obviously not knowledgeable, and it concerns both of us.”
Jake could tell that she ignored his question, but he didn’t mind it at all.
He listened attentively to the words of the candidate, “Whether in this dimension, or the other dimensions, there is one thing that remains stagnant. It is an entity that is older than the birth of the dimensions itself, not bound by emotions like inhabitants. If anything, it is completely neutral, just like the machines from Nova’s.”
Processing the massive influx of information, Jake found that there were some keywords that he could not understand.
He ignored them and tried to confirm something, “Are you referring to……..Heaven?”
His voice was coarse, but the female candidate was still able to hear it.
“Yes,” she replied.
Jake nodded his head.
He wasn’t surprised. To the cultivators, the warriors, they was a concept of an entity named Heaven!
It was akin to the mortal’s fairytales for them. They theorized a being watching over the land.
In fact, based on the Aztec books he had read, Heaven wasn’t a myth. It was real! Most warriors believed in it!
Jake sighed as he had reached another conclusion, “That living celestial body we met was Heaven, wasn’t it?”
“Yes. You see, Heaven doesn’t think like us. It is bound by its own rules, and never bypassess them, one of its admirable qualities….i would say,” explained the female candidate.
After a quick pause, she continued, “One of its many rules is to never take on the form of other races. It takes on abstract forms, each one having its own meaning and purpose.”
Jake could understand it.
If he pursued perfection, then Heaven was the pinnacle of neutrality….a representation of the cosmic apathy!
“When it takes the form of the Eye of Providence, it acts a judge!” concluded the female candidate.
“Heaven’s Oath….,” murmured Jake.
That was the title of the scroll he signed. An oath watched by Heaven!
On second thoughts, he had heard about this sacred practice.
“Heaven’s Oath was one of the services provided by the Eye of Providence. It binds two willing party under a strict term. A breach would lead to retaliation from the Eye of Providence. The term we signed to restricted both of us from killing each other!” divulged the female candidate.
Jake sighed as he had expected this outcome.
“Why are you telling me all this?” eyed Jake.
The female candidate wasn’t exactly a cooperative person. Just hours ago, she was planning to kill him!
Focusing on the item in her hand, The candidate ignored him for a while before she responded, ” I need you to understand the consequences of whatever trick you pulled. Wouldn’t it have been better if only one of us survived?”
From the marks on the floor, it seemed like she had tried to kill him many times after she woke up.
“Why is that?” queried Jake.
He wanted to know the mindset of the candidate.
She stared at him as she went on, “Why is that you say? You saw me. My birth from the egg. There was no need to risk it. Hence, my attempts on your life. While on your side, your people invaded that town to extract the heart of the banshee queen. There were no signs of greed in their hearts. Thus, it is possible that the said item wasn’t for your consumption”
“You already had a perfect picture laid for the item. If I entered it, it would shatter. Hence, your need to eliminate me, the anomaly in your plan,” explained the female candidate.
‘Hmm….’Jake mused at her thought process.
It could be seen from her words that she had a high level of intellect. Being able to deduce the situation just after her ‘birth’.
However, she was wrong, due to the meager amount of information she deciphered.
Nonetheless, he was able to get an idea of her mindset. Especially when she spoke about killing him nonchalantly.
“However, that doesn’t mean I can’t do anything to you. Tell me, why did you do that?” asked the candidate.
Despite her ambiguous words, Jake understood what she meant.
She was referring to the card that forced the oath on them. Jake reckoned she was probably angry at him, but sadly, she actually couldn’t do anything.
Moreover, he didn’t care!
*Click!*
A final clicking sound sounded from the sphere object.
The female candidate looked at him and a sparkle coursed through her eyes, which didn’t mean anything good to Jake.
She proceeded to toss the sphere to Jake, who had already ran away from his position.
He waited and waited for something to happen, wondering about what it might be.
Time passed by, yet, nothing still happened.
This made the female candidate walked to the sphere and pick it up. Channelling her energy, she flinged it out og the tent.
*Boom!*
The moment it went out, a large explosion occured. Thundering into the ears of the two candidates as they tried to stabilize themselves.
After a few more minutes, the shakings subsidized and the two of them stared at each other again.
‘She just tried to kill me. What a sad life?’ sighed Jake.
As he placed his barefoot on the cold grassy floor, he could feel the weak vibration ringing deep in the earth, proof of the destructive potential of the sphere.
He spotted the female candidate deep in thoughts. She was occasionally murmuring stuffs that alarmed him.
“That is still not enough?……I guess i will have to find a better way…..maybe an indirect kill…..Or maybe…..”
