Sect Leader’s Rise to the top! - Chapter 58
The Qin Patriarch looked at Kai curiously. “My Qin family has treated you quite well already, yet the first words that come out of your mouth are filled with disrespect.”, He said this with relative calmness despite his fiery looks.
“Your family member attacked me without any prior provocation. The fact that she is still alive and unhurt right now is already me giving your Qin family a lot of face. All I’m asking for now is fair compensation for my troubles…”
Kai stayed cordial but also wouldn’t back down. He was the victim in all of this after all.
The Qin Patriarch looked down at Qin Weiwei who was struggling with her bindings then sighed. He had already received the full report from the scouts and knew what had happened.
On her way back from Beifong Town, her carriage was sabotaged and overturned. That’s when an unknown group attacked her and her guards.
The attackers were unnaturally strong so there is no way they could have been common bandits as originally thought. The fight between the attackers and the Qin guards was even despite the attackers having more people. This was because the Qin guards had a [Mortal-Grade-4] warrior who was able to hold back the majority of the attackers himself.
Just when the fight started to become messy, The man named Kai’s carriage came along. Weiwei saw the attackers panic and thought they were reinforcements sent to help her, but the reality was a lot harsher than this sheltered girl could have imagined.
Kai’s group ignored their situation and left them to their fate looking back. The attackers were discouraged by the possibility of reinforcements showing up so they quickly left after a brief scuffle with the guards with some plundered valuables.
Weiwei had never experienced such a thing so she ended up looking for someone to take out her anger and frustrations on. They arrived at the outpost and she noticed Kai’s shabby-looking wagon was the exact one that ignored them, so she decided to take her anger out on him, believing that he was just a random mortal.
“I can’t believe such a stupid girl is part of my Qin family. Were it not for her father, I would probably just kill her myself!” The Qin Patriarch thought as he looked back at Kai. He truly had the moral high ground as the victim and was quite justified to demand compensation, but at the same time, the Qin family would become a laughing stock if they simply apologized and compensated him.
He looked back at Kai but still couldn’t sense any Qi inside of him. Based on what the reports said, there was no way that he could be a mortal if he was able to kill a guard without making a single move. Only very powerful cultivators were able to hide their presence this well, so the Qin Patriarch decided to tread carefully.
“Take Qin Weiwei back to her quarters. She will be confined in her room until a suitable punishment can be decided on…”, the Qin Patriarch spoke, and immediately, a group of servants hurried into the hall.
Qin Weiwei sighed in relief as tears of joy sparkled at the corners of her eyes. She would finally be able to part from this evil man, but at that moment, Kai picked her up and put her back on his shoulder. The servants didn’t know what to do and could only gather stop in their tracks.
“I’d prefer to receive my compensation first before she is allowed to leave. If we fail to agree, then I will simply take one of her limbs. She tried to do to me so I believe that would be fair enough punishment…”, Kai said with a straight face.
The atmosphere in the hall turned cold when Kai said this. The servants who were close to him quickly backed away from him in fear.
The Qin family Patriarch could barely process what he had just heard. Never in his life had he seen someone act so domineering inside of the Qin family’s halls before, so he was at a complete loss for what to say.
“Boy!, are you trying to threaten my family?!”. This time it was the strongest of the three Elders who spoke. He slowly stood up and threw away his broken calligraphy brush. The heavy pressure in the room drastically increased as he spoke.
“I refuse to let you insult my Qin family any longer. Show me what makes you believe you can be this arrogant!”
The old man shouted as a thin long sword appeared in his hand. A strong gust of wind suddenly appeared inside the large hall as the sword saw slowly covered in Qi, making an audible sound similar to birds chirping. The old man then moved quickly towards Kai with his long beard fluttering in the air with his sword aimed directly at Kai’s chest.
“First Elder?!”, The Qin Patriarch yelled when he saw the elder move. He knew that the old man had a short temper but didn’t think he would attack so suddenly.
Kai was able to accurately follow the old man’s movements so he dropped Qin Weiwei on her butt making her cry out in pain. He then enhanced his entire body with Qi and prepared to receive the old man’s attack.
The sword arrived quickly and Kai could feel the heavy Qi surrounding it, but this wasn’t the first time Kai had faced a Qi attack. The first Internal cultivators he had encountered also used Qi enhanced weapons, but compared to those, this one was on a whole other level. The blade had a real destructive power.
Kai knew he couldn’t stop it with just normal Qi-enhancement so he super-enhanced his right leg then kicked at the incoming sword with all his weight. His leg and the sword collided, causing a screeching sound as their Qi collided. Kai was able to knock away the sword but was also pushed back by the momentum.
Apart from his pant sleeve being torn up a little, Kai hadn’t sustained much damage. Before the impact, he had activated [Primordial-Dragon’s Scale Armament] and added scales to the point of impact which essentially nullified all the damage. As for the elder, his sword was knocked back and he was forced to take a bunch of steps backward to regain his balance, but his face was covered in complete shock.
“So hard!, did he just use Qi Body-enhancement on his legs?…but only Foundation Establishment cultivators should have that ability…”
The elder knew clearly what was possible for those in the Qi-Condensation stage. He himself had been stuck at the Eighth Level of Qi-Condensation for over two decades. He knew that those in the Qi-Condensation stage had to channel their Qi into external conduits like weapons or armor to utilize their Qi offensively or defensively. However, what Kai had just done was an enhancement of his very body as if it were a weapon.
“But how?… he’s clearly not at the Foundational Establishment stage!”, The elder thought as he could now sense Kai’s Qi after their exchange. He estimated Kai to be either at the sixth or seventh level of Qi-Condensation. This was indeed a remarkable feat considering how young he looked, but it still didn’t explain how he was able to use a technique exclusive to those of a higher realm.
“Considering his young age…this boy is already a top-tier genius based solely on his cultivation…but with this ability, how many below the Foundational Establishment Realm could even be his opponent?…Someone like this must have an expert backing him, but why didn’t he mention it by now?…”
The Qin Patriarch as well as the other two elders were also stupefied by what they had just seen. They started at Kai like he was a freak of nature.
Kai didn’t know what was going on inside their heads and was actually more preoccupied with thinking of ways to recreate the old man’s weapon Qi-enhancement. No matter what Kai had tried in the past, he couldn’t ever enhance anything outside of his body. The most he was able to do was inject Qi inside of a weapon briefly but this would just destroy the weapon within a few seconds and wouldn’t raise or improve its power at all.
Kai quickly brought himself back to reality and got ready for a long-drawn-out fight with all four of them. This elder who attacked was the strongest of the four, so after that one exchange, Kai felt confident in fighting all four of them together if he activated his full body scales, but at that moment, Kai heard the old man speak.
“Mr. Kai. I must apologize for having tested you. Please know that I will personally compensate you for this insult, so I hope you will not hold it against me…”. His sword was nowhere to be seen and his previous hostile look was replaced with an amicable smile.
“huh?….” Kai didn’t know what to say.
