Serendipity – A Chance Encounter - Chapter 393
Several months later in the Cliffside Villa
“Honey… Can you get me some ice cream, please?” Samantha shouted from the living room.
Daniel was in the kitchen with a milk bottle in his hand and Ashton grasping the side of his sweatpants. The little potato was sticking to his daddy everywhere he went… even when Daniel needed to go to the bathroom.
“What flavor do you want?” He shouted back, opening the bottom freezer and stared at their stock. He wondered if his wife had started selling ice cream behind his back — one drawer was filled with nothing but ice cream.
“Butter pecan.”
“Of course.” He chuckled. Did he even need to ask? It wasn’t as if there were other flavors in there besides chocolates — and those were his.
“Can you grab one for me, buddy?” he turned to Ashton.
And just like the smart potato that he was, Ashy walked towards the freezer, peered in and his little hands reached for the ice cream.
“Good job.” Daniel rubbed the top of Ashton’s head when he got the right one on the first try and the little baby raised his hand up, giving the ice cream to his daddy.
Instead of receiving the ice cream, Daniel bent to pick him up, closed the freezer with his foot and strolled back to the living room.
Samantha sat on the sofa with her legs extended towards the other end. She’s due in two days and she was feeling and being lazy the whole week.
“Here you go, mommy.” Daniel bent down slightly so that Ash could give his gift to his mother.
“Awww… thank you, sweetie.” Samantha received the ice cream and started eating while rubbing her round belly. Meanwhile, Daniel settled on the other end of the sofa, placing Samantha’s feet on his lap while he fed Ashton with milk.
“Are you feeling okay?” he rubbed the sole of her foot with one hand.
“Yeah…” She looked down on her belly and pursed her lips. “Baby’s been very hyper since this morning. I imagined the little nugget running around the race track or jumping up and down the trampoline.”
Daniel threw his head back and laughed at her silliness.
“I feel like it’s having a party inside my womb and I’m not invited… but I’m like the neighbor that feels all the chaos.”
He reached his hand out to give her stomach a little rub and patting it lightly, “That’s my li’l a*s kicker.”
“I don’t like my ice cream anymore.” Samantha pouted. There was still half of it left and she was already done with it.
Daniel immediately opened his hand out to receive the unfinished ice cream bar and without complaints, he finished it for her.
It had been like that for the couple ever since. What she can’t finish, he will do it for her. What he doesn’t like, she will do it for him — or vice versa.
“I need to pee.” She carefully swung her legs off the sofa and sat for a second.
“Do you need help, honey?”
“No, I’m okay.” She pushed herself up the sofa and sauntered towards the toilet, her hand supporting her back.
Minutes later, Daniel’s head snapped to the side and his eyes widened when he heard Samantha scream his name: “Danieeeeeeeel!!!”
He was on his feet in an instant and rushed towards his wife. He saw her by the hallway and the floor was wet.
“My water broke,” Samantha had a stunned expression, meeting Daniel’s equally stunned expression.
“Sh*t,” he cursed despite the house rule of no cursing in front of the babies. He didn’t know what to do first – Ashton was in his arm, and his wife was about to give birth. He hesitantly put Ashton down and hastily went to Samantha’s side, supporting her as they started to head towards the main door.
“Ashton Daniel.” He only had to call his son’s name and the little munchkin followed behind them, walking wobbly and wondering why his mommy and daddy were being weird that day.
“We’re going to be okay, honey. Just hang on.” Daniel carefully helped Samantha get settled inside the car. She was doing deep breaths to calm herself down.
“Ashton.” He called as he spun around looking for his son when he felt a tug on his sweatpants and he looked down to see his little boy with his little stubby arms up asking to be lifted. Ashton behaved as his daddy placed him in the car seat.
“Honey, the bag.” Samantha reminded her husband and in a flash, Daniel rushed back to the house and retrieved a bag that was just by the door. Since the past month, they have already prepared this bag for when the time came that Samantha was going to go on labor. The bag was filled with clothes for all of them, some of Ashton’s and the new baby’s necessities – they were really prepared.
Hurriedly, Daniel shoved the bag in the trunk and ran both of his hands on his face before he opened the door to the driver’s side.
“Honey, lock the house. I’m still okay… don’t panic.”
“Sh*t.” He cursed and went back to the house, shaking his head when he saw the door was wide open and then locked it before he headed to the car.
When he was finally inside, he turned on the engine, checked on Ashton from the rearview mirror before he turned to his wife. “Sam…”
Samantha started to sweat, she was somehow already anticipating for the first contraction to start. She met Daniel’s worried gaze and she nodded, “I’m okay…”
Without any more delays, Daniel drove the car to the traffic and headed towards the hospital. On the way, he had already contacted the hospital and called their family members to inform them about Samantha.
He snapped his head towards his wife when she suddenly clamped on his arm and gripped it very hard as she screeched while holding her stomach. “Aaaaah!!!”
“We’re almost there, honey.” Daniel swallowed.. He could not imagine how painful it must be for her but judging by the vice grip that she did just now, he had to step on the gas or he was afraid his wife might give birth in the car.
