Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 102
Her break finally came. Few weeks ago, she was facing so many things that she didn’t know she’d be able to survive it but she let fate takes its curse, just going with the flow, because she knew they were meant to happen in order to make her even stronger. After the incident with the Lavigne family, she finally found peace in school on. Although the students didn’t like approaching her because of fear, they didn’t talk bad things about her either. In fact, many of them apologized to her, hoping that she’d forgive them and that Nicholas wouldn’t pursue the matter.
If you expect her to forgive and forget, you are wrong. Serina didn’t forgive any of them. She wouldn’t forget what they did either. They have done those things with sane minds, they should be responsible for the consequences for messing up with her life.
When her father learned about it, he requested an early leave for his daughter. Thus, Sofia got a break earlier than everyone else.
Right now, she was lying on her new bed. Her family moved out from the previous home they had but they didn’t tell anyone about it. Sometimes, they’d go there since that’s where Sylvie and Peter lives with a nanny. It appeared as if they still lived in that house with their adopted children but they actually have a new home away from the Vallardi estate.
But what can you do against love? If it’s their fate, if things were meant to happen like the way it should be, you can’t really do anything about it. You cannot just tell someone to stop loving the person without telling them the reason and that’s what makes things difficult for Irene and Michael. They couldn’t tell Serina that Zalia was the Luna of the Blue Moon Pack. They couldn’t tell her that her mother is a result of an experiment. As much as Serina kept things to herself, her parents were the same. Her dragon does the same thing. Nicholas was the same. Everyone just got secrets of their own.
‘Ding! Dong!’ ‘Ding! Dong!’ ‘Ding! Dong!’
The doorbell kept ringing making Serina rose to her feet and walked downstairs. The house wasn’t really that much different than the previous one she lived. It was just a lot bigger and she got bigger room as well. She looked at the camera installed next to the door and found Corrine standing outside her home.
“Rina!” Corrine hugged her sister happily and Serina returned the warm greeting but her eyes were strained on the man’s face behind her. Nicholas was standing there when her parents tried hard to avoid him and his family. “I bumped to Nicholas when I was coming over and he was looking for you. I brought him here in your vacation house.”
“Vacation house. Hm. Not bad.” Nicholas commented while looking around the house in front of him. “Your father must have spent a lot for this vacation house.”
Serina blinked her eyes and just smiled awkwardly at him. “We just thought that it’s good to have a new environment and a place to stay. Anyway, why are you looking for me?”
Corrine winked at Serina and invited herself in. “You gotta face him sweetheart.”
Nicholas scratched the back of his head and looked down on his face. He wanted to say he missed her but he was afraid she’d think he’s being corny and possessive of her. “I…uhh…I was wondering if you would want to see the cubs? I mean, you must be bored staying here alone. Your father is busy at the company and your mother went to your previous home. I met her there.”
“Sure. Come inside first. I’ll just change my clothes. Is your sister home?”
“Hn. She also wanted to apologize to you for what she did last time. I know it was rude of her and I felt really bad for what she did. I hope you can forgive her.”
“I didn’t even hate her in the first place.” Serina commented, leading him to the living room where Corrine was sitting with a magazine in hand. “You guys should stop pressuring her. She’ll probably hate me more if this continues.”
“No, we can’t. There should be an established respect for you at home.”
“Huh?” Corrine and Serina looked at him at the same time, both were confused why that’s needed. Remembering the last week when he came to her school and declared she was his fiancé, Serina’s face heated up and she immediately ran upstairs. “Eh? What’s wrong with her?” Corrine questioned with her eyes blinking before shifting her gaze to Nicholas. “And what’s wrong with you? I mean, I could understand that you like Rina and you wanted her to be comfortable around your family but why are you forcing your sister to respect her. Respect is earned, not forced on someone.”
“I wanted my sister to see how important Rina is to me. I can’t let her stay spoil and act rude to my girlfriend.”
“She’s not your girlfriend yet.”
“It will happen soon.”
“You are not even courting her.”
“I am. I did it in my own way and Rina knows it, too.”
“That’s weird. Other men I knew would be sending flowers, chocolates, love letters, stuff toys and bring her to a date wherever she wanted to go. Isn’t that how courting works.”
“I gave her flowers before but she threw them away. I gave her toys and threw them away. I wanted to bring her to some places but she refused most of the times, except for the trip to the backyard of my home. She loved going there. I cooked for her, though.”
“That’s kinda weird.” Corrine commented. “But you must be good in cooking since she never stopped eating the food you cooked.”
“Lambert told me that she likes them.”
“Oh.”
“And besides, I am already being a gentleman to her by respecting what she likes and her decisions in life. You must not have known this but my kind didn’t really give our women the choices in life. Once they’re fated, once confirmed that they’re mates, they’ll have to go through the ritual and be together, whether she likes it or not.”
“And what if the woman refuses to do that?”
“The other person should accept it. If they won’t, the bond will continue to connect them. They won’t be set free.” Nicholas sighed and clasped his hands together. “It has never happened to our clan because we value our mating ritual. I just hope I won’t be the first one to fail. I have compromised so many things for her.”
“Does she know?”
“I’m planning to tell her about it once she’s eighteen. On her birthday, it will be confirmed if both of us are really meant together but I have felt that we are ever since the first day I have crossed paths with her.”
Corrine nodded her head. She had an inkling of what specie Nicholas has come from but she didn’t plan on saying anything because it wasn’t her position to do so. If they promised to talk things out on her birthday then, she’d wait for that day to come.
“By the way, did you leave that cat alone in your house?” Nicholas asked when he didn’t see Damon nestled in her arms.
The last time they visited Corrine, Damon transformed to a cat and decided to stay beside her. When she looked for his owner, nobody claimed for him and they even come across Claude, the butler of the Du Lac family but he didn’t say anything and just bowed respectfully towards Corrine. In the end, she decided to keep him. At first, she was exasperated to know that he won’t eat fried fish. He liked it grilled and no salt. It didn’t like to drink milk or water as well. It was so weird because it likes drinking red wine. She even had to buy red wine from the nearest supermarket just for him. How she knew? Because her cat kept staring on the magazine of wines and he scratched that particular wine and shredded the magazines to pieces. She found her cat really weird. Still, she didn’t throw him out. She thought he was just an extraordinary and smart cat.
“I left Willow under Natalya’s care. She has many works left so she couldn’t come. I didn’t have the right papers to bring the cat out of the country as well. So, might as well leave him there.”
“That must be so sad for him.”
“I did think that but I cannot really do anything. I haven’t even brought him to a veterinary clinic because I don’t have enough money. Oh! Don’t tell Rina about it. She’d freak out.”
“I think that cat is fine. I can see that he isn’t feral and I think he likes you a lot.”
“You think so?” Corrine’s eyes lit up remembering how much that cat likes to snuggle close to her. Whenever she’s sitting to work, he’d be napping on her lap. When she’s watching a movie, he’d be napping on her lap. When she sleeps on the bed, he’d be curling his body in her arms. He felt so warm and comfortable. “I like that cat very much as well.”
Tapping on their conversation, Damon heard everything from Nicholas’s mind.. He was thankful to him that he got to hear those words coming directly from her mouth but it made him feel a little upset knowing that she likes the cat form not the original Damon.
