Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 109
Serina was excused from school because of the incident. Nicholas has covered it up with random excuses and fortunately, the teachers believed the excuse after seeing the medical examination result of that he sent in her behalf. Some students felt relieved that Serina and Nicholas won’t be around Paris but it was different for Lambert.
He was used to hanging around with Serina, studying with her, eating with her and looking around the city with her. He didn’t have any other true friends except her. With her being absent, Lambert was lonely and was often seen around campus alone. He didn’t join other students and he didn’t initiate making friends as well.
He just thought that he was going back to square one when he was still looking nerdy and alone.
He got a part-time job, working as a model to a fashion brand that Serina chose for him. She checked the company’s background, the projects and the people working on it, making sure that it would be suitable for him to work. She has done so much for him but now that she needed someone, he can’t even stay by her side.
“Don’t worry. She will be fine.” This was what Nicholas told him but he wasn’t convinced at all. With the heavy injuries she obtained based on the medical report, it would be great if she’d wake up.
On the other hand, it has been a week since Serina became unconscious. There were no changes on her situation. She seemed like someone who was sleeping peacefully but everyone in her family knew that it wasn’t the case.
“Isn’t it the time for Serina’s massage. Her muscles should be kept in good condition or she will be stiff and have muscle cramps once she wakes up.” Irene stated while wiping her hands with the side of her apron.
“I’m on it, auntie.” Nicholas answered and ran off to the second floor where Serina’s room was located. As soon as he got inside, he kissed her cheeks and the tip of her nose before going to the bathroom to get a basin and a wash cloth for her. He needed to wipe her body first before giving her a massage. He also grabbed the aromatic oil that he’d be using as well as some scented candles to bring in the good atmosphere.
“I felt really bad for Nicholas.” Irene commented with a deep sigh. “I hope our daughter will wake up soon.”
“If she wakes up and it turns out that she has forgotten him, isn’t that even more hurtful?”
“It’s up to Nicholas on how he’d deal with that. What matters for now is for Serina to wake up.”
“What about you?” Irene put away the apron and sat in front of her husband. “Aren’t they allowing you to resign yet?”
“Hn. They keep saying that I should just have an indefinite leave. They’ll also pay my wages just like before. They are probably trying to make it up to use by giving us this opportunity. Hah! As if I’d agree to that. Fine! I can have an indefinite leave but I will never ever get anything from them. I have already asked the bank to stop any money coming from the company.”
The two of them talked for more few minutes, shared their worries and fears before Irene left to do the laundry. They didn’t like keeping servants or helpers at home so they do all house chores by themselves.
Meanwhile, Nicholas gave Serina a massage and made sure that her muscles won’t be stiff. As he did, he talked to her about their past and the things she likes doing. He talked about the places they’ve been to, recalling the times they first met and the times that she played with the wolves.
Even though there was no response from her, Nicholas talked to her like this every day.
On the other hand, the Vallardi estate has become different ever since the day that the werewolves tried killing Serina. Zalia no longer comes out of their mansion and she didn’t like talking to anyone either. When they receive invitation from other packs to attend a party, she refused them and stayed home. Her husband apologized to her several times but she felt so guilty whenever she sees his face. She took him away from the first dragon bearer and became the Luna of the pack. Now, that same man tried killing the new dragon bearer. Her guilt from the past didn’t vanish but was added instead.
Yiran still continued going to her school like normal but when evening came and it was time for her to be alone, her tears kept falling from so much grief.
It felt like everything crumbled so fast.
They invited Serina over, had lunch with her and joked around her being her brother’s wife. She even started to like her. And then, her mother’s illness got worse. The next things she knew was the fact that she’s from the dragon tribe. Her anger overtook her emotions and she felt an overwhelming hatred against her.
Yiran was sorry for what she did, for going against her brother but she could no longer turn back the time. She even tried looking for him, found him watering plants at the Wentworth’s home but he shooed her away. He was cold and unforgiving.
The lovely mansion, the house which was once full of laughter and cheers, was now cold and lonely. The atmosphere was gloomy and the family who lives there was not as happy as they had been.
Gabriel and Gregori lost their best friend as well. They never expected that the day where they would be estranged from one another would come. They have fought for their lives together. They grew up together, played together and got reprimanded together. Now, Nicholas has turned his back on them. He severed his ties from everyone in the estate, including the people and his family.
The wolves in the forest who became really fond of Serina and were very close to her have been acting strange as well. They were part of the estate and they often interact with the villagers. However, they have gone into seclusions. Ever since the fight, the have never seen a single wolf roaming around the forest or in the village. They tried finding them but they couldn’t. It’s like they have never existed in the first place. But they knew they were there because at night, when it’s silent and no patrol stays at the forest, they would hear them howl into the moon. The sound was really disturbing because they sounded mourning and grieving.
This happened for one week but after that, they stopped and they have come out of their hiding as well. They started roaming around and they could see the little cubs play happily once again.
“Say, is she awake now?” Gregori asked his twin while helping their father at the hospital. Ever since the incident, they haven’t gone back to the mansion yet and decided to just help their father at their local hospital. “I got this feeling that she’s awake.”
“How so?” Their father asked while taking off his coat. “The grand elder didn’t say anything and he didn’t try stopping Nicholas either. I think he knew something.”
“It doesn’t matter what kind of opinion he got. In my opinion, the wolves feel something related to Serina.” Gregori retorted.
“That could be true as well.” Gabriel chimed in but that was it. He didn’t want to input his opinion regarding someone whom he tried to kill a week ago. “I just Nik is fine.”
The three of them went silent and didn’t talk anything more related to Serina and Nicholas.
As the days went by, people continued with their lives. Those who have works went to work. Those who needed to study went to study. Their lives didn’t stop just because Serina went unconscious. They have to continue on their journey just as is.
Nicholas cleaned Serina’s room, making sure that the place wasn’t messy and her things were arranged properly. He organized them according to use and placed a label for her to find them easily. The sky was blue and the sun was shining brightly. The birds were singing faintly and he could see butterflies flapping their wings over the flowers at the garden.
Although he felt gloomy deep inside him, he was still hopeful that she’d be fine. According to the grand elder’s information as well as the details that Michael shared, Serina should wake up in three weeks. She should be.
Dusting off her shelves, Nicholas caught something with his peripheral vision which made him turn around to check on it. Right in front of him, Serina’s appearance changed. Her white skin turned to a white fur. Her face became elongated and changed to a nuzzle with gleaming white teeth. Her arms and feet became four legs. She was still sleeping on the bed but he was no longer looking at the human form of her. She has become the she-wolf which he and Kiro waited for.
“Auntie! Uncle! Something happened to Rina!”
