Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 110
The accident wasn’t really that damaging to cause his death. Melbon was lying on his hospital with his amputated left leg. He didn’t look at anyone when they came, including his wife and daughter. He ignored them and didn’t pay any attention with all the anguish he felt for the person who did it to him.
As for the driver that Viktor sent to deal with him, he was also at the hospital. His right arm was bandaged after getting dislocated and there was a gauze wrapped around his head because of the wound he got. Both these injuries were fake. The driver was actually fine with few wounds that don’t even need any stitches.
When the police came to deal with the traffic incident, the driver identified as Scott Lim offered his apologies to Melbon and his finally. The result of the investigation was concluded as unintentional accident. Scott Lim, after getting out of the bank from withdrawing some cash, was chased by a car with no plate number. He had to speed up because he didn’t know what else to do. It was then proven that Mr. Lim had a lot of cash in his car after withdrawing money to pay for his workers.
Melbon was just caught into this accident when Mr. Lim was trying to escape from his pursuers.
Suzy was tongue-tied at this point. She couldn’t believe that her husband has to pay the price for someone else’s negligence. Irene felt aggrieved as well. She didn’t expect that it was really pure accident. She knew that her dad has many enemies and she expected that one of them has orchestrated this thing. It was just unbelievable to her.
Scott Lim wanted to settle this matter privately, to pay all of the medical bills and physical rehabilitation. He wanted to compensate them with money. However, being rich as they were, Melbon was prideful and didn’t accept the money from the man. He wanted to settle this matter in court as well.
Viktor gave Scott Lim the heads up if this situation comes in between. He already predicted the possibilities and had counter measures for each.
“Officer, as the person who caused this incident, I won’t mind facing them at the court. I have proven my innocence that I’m a victim of this accident as well.” Mr. Lim stated and bowed deeply in front of the officer as well as the Diaz family. “This is my business number and this is my personal number.” He gave them two separate cards before leaving to go back to his hospital room.
When Sofia heard this from Viktor, the corner of her lips curved to a mocking smile. “Do whatever you can. Get our lawyer for him. This maybe a little case but we need to make a clean cut to save Scott’s name. Also, if they demand a hefty sum of money, it’s fine as well, I’ll take it back anyway.”
“What’s your next plan?” Viktor asked over the phone. “Mr. Osborne from Evergreen company has promised to never work with Mr. Diaz.”
“Contact the owner of Asia-Phil Airlines and ask him to cancel their current partnership with Melbon Diaz. I will send you a file later on and you can use it to negotiate with them.”
“O-okay. I’ll deal with this stuff. You recover soon and continue with your mission. I can’t wait to see sit on the throne.”
“Lucas will be very pleased if I really succeed.”
“I know. He’s been waiting for you to come to him and take the crown from him.”
Sofia chuckled at her brother’s response but a knock interrupted her conversation with him. “Got to go. I’ll see you next time.” She ended the call and hid her phone at the back of the medicine kit inside her bathroom. When she opened the door, Liam was standing there with a worried expression. “What’s the matter?”
“I thought something has happened to you.”
“I just had an upset stomach.” She explained with faint smile. “I just took some medicine.”
“Then, I’m not leaving.” Liam stated, pulling her into his embrace and kissed her temple. “I won’t leave you tonight. I’ll just reschedule my flight to tomorrow.”
“You can’t do that. Your work must be waiting for you.”
“I’ll leave early so I can come to the office on time.”
Sofia was torn between sending him back or letting him stay. There were just so many things to risk if she allows him to stay but she missed him and didn’t want to let this chance go either. “Fine. Let’s be together tonight but we can’t do anything else aside from sleeping.”
“Sounds good to me. I don’t intend to do something against you will either.”
Back to the hospital where Melbon was admitted, Irene walked around the hospital, not really having any specific goal in mind. She was thinking of asking her sister for help, to send the man in jail and to make sure that he stays there. With the current situation, she had a feeling that the culprit will be able to bail out from this lawsuit and he won’t be in jail. She didn’t want that. Her father had his leg amputated and the person will be set free? She can’t accept this thought.
Walking around, she passed by the ICU area and saw Yusef and Irene. She was shocked at first but when she saw Juliet’s mother through the glass window of the ICU, her conscience was beating her chest. She felt suffocated. She knew that she has the same blood as Juliet, that they shared they same father and that she wasn’t really Oliver’s daughter. Her mother deceived the latter while having adulterous relationship with Melbon.
‘Looks like he was just paying for what he did to his wife.’ Irene thought and this sudden idea struck a cord in her chest. ‘Pay? Wife? Evangeline is Sofia’s auntie. They may not be related by blood but she’s the only family to her now. She’s no longer seeing us as her family. Did she cause the accident as payback for what my father did to Evangeline?’ She covered her mouth in horror and hid at the corner to make sure that she won’t be seen by anyone. Her idea became even stronger and convincing in her mind when she saw Yusef. She remembered that he came with Sofia on the day that they first confronted each other.
Irene squat on the ground, silently sobbing while thinking about her sister. ‘Is there really no way for us to be united again?’
When she came back to the VIP room where her father stays, her eyes were swollen and the tip of her nose was also red. It was obvious that she just cried. However, she didn’t say a single thing to her parents. She didn’t tell them about Evangeline as well as the possibility that Sofia was involved in this accident. She wanted to give her sister the benefit of the doubt even though she knew it’s highly possible that she orchestrated everything.
As for the person who caused this to happen, she was lying on the bed with Liam. She was using his arm as her pillow with her face pressed on his chest. She liked the warmth coming off of him and this made her relax a little.
“How about you sing me a song?” Sofia requested while making small circles on his abs with her index finger.
“I don’t know how to sing.”
“Of course, you do. Everyone can sing. It’s just a matter of being on the right key or being tone deaf. I don’t care if you are tone deaf though.”
“Are you sure?”
“Hn. Just sing me a song. Have you ever sung to anyone?”
“To my mother. Yeah.”
“Aside from her?”
“You will be the first to hear me sing. I don’t even go to karaoke with my friends.”
“My pleasure.” Sofia raised her head and kissed his chin. “I will never share this to anyone.”
Liam coughed drily to clear his throat and slowly caressed her back. “If I had to live my life without you near me…The days would all be empty…The nights would seem so long…With you I see forever oh so clearly…I might have been in love before…But it never felt this strong…Our dreams are young and we both know…They’ll take us where we want to go…Hold me now…Touch me now…I don’t want to live without you
Nothing’s gonna change my love for you…You ought to know by now how much I love you…One thing you can be sure of…I’ll never ask for more than your love…Nothing’s gonna change my love for you…You ought to know by now how much I love you…the world may change my whole life through…But nothing’s gonna change my love for you”
Liam peered on Sofia’s face. She was sleeping peacefully in his arms and this gave him the time to really check on her.. The moment he lifted the hem of her shirt and saw the patch of gauze covering her wound, Liam’s eyes grew cold.
