Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 61
Nicholas left his family for a while especially Yiran. She needed time to adjust and accept this new information which was related to her brother. She knew all along that this would happen but she didn’t know it would happen so fast. It hasn’t been long since her brother left to go outside their village. She thought he’d meet her mate two or three years after that but she didn’t expect him to find her so soon. She met Serina before and her brother even brought her home because she was sick for some reason. It never occurred to her that Serina would be her sister-in-law.
In his room, Nicholas was staring at the ceiling, the corner of his mouth curved to a smile and he was just lying there on his bed looking silly and foolish. His belief about Serina being his mate has intensified. Whatever the reason why he can’t connect to her in his human form will be resolved sooner or later. He will make sure to figure out what exactly is hindering their communication because she can perfectly talk with Kiro but not to him – well not through mental link. He just can’t connect to her except that one moment when she was in Paris.
“Well, she’s back so that’s the most important thing for now.” Nicholas told himself before getting up from his bed to take a shower before going to sleep.
‘Yeah, she’s back but she’s not planning to see you soon.’ Kiro replied smugly. He was so happy that he got to keep Serina company in his wolf form and she wasn’t afraid of him at all. She was so fond with wolves and they can even communicate. Now, he just couldn’t stop teasing Nicholas even though they’re fused together in one body.
“Shall I go and see her?”
‘No, you can’t! She’ll think that I broke my promise.’
“Isn’t that better? She’ll hate you.”
‘Are you an idiot?! If she founds out that you and me lives in the same body, she will hate you, too. Don’t forget that we’re keeping this thing a secret until you are ready to tell her the truth.’
Nicholas stopped on his track and looked outside the window even though there was nothing to look at. “What could be her reason why she didn’t want to see me yet? I don’t remember upsetting her.”
‘I don’t know. Honestly, I tried prying in her mind but there was a strong barrier that prevents me from digging deeper. It’s powerful, too.’
Nicholas and Kiro were both contemplating over this matter but none of them could come up with an answer. They have been very careful when it comes to her so Nicholas was sure that Serina’s problem wasn’t directly because of him.
Nicholas waited and waited, waited and waited but several days have passed from the last time he saw her and Serina still hasn’t contacted him. He was getting impatient and Kiro was getting restless as well. He even passed by her residence but there was no one around. He tried talking to Michael over the phone as well but he never once mentioned about Serina being around. Her arrival had been kept from him.
He paced back and forth inside his office, torn between going to the Wentworth’s home or going directly to his apartment. Even though he can go back to the Vallardi estate, Nicholas also kept an apartment in the city. He wanted to have a place to stay when he didn’t want to come. And right now, he was feeling so lost he didn’t know what to do anymore.
“I’m going to visit them.” Nicholas stated with no room for discussion, not even with Kiro. He packed up his stuff and left the company. He drove as fast as he could towards Serina’s home, almost going off the speed limit. Thankfully, Kiro was there to remind him of his safety.
When he arrived outside the Wentworth’s residence, he felt annoyed and irritated. Worse, he thought of kidnapping Serina and locked her in his room. “I’m going crazy.”
‘I know.’ Kiro replied nonchalantly. How can he not know when he was there in his mind all the time, every second of the day, three hundred sixty-five days in a year. ‘Just pretend that you are here to ask for an advice from Michael.’
“That’s a good excuse.” Nicholas went out of his car and picked the wine he bought along the way. He didn’t really prepare anything for this visit and he felt guilty for that, too. “I wish I can go all domineering and possessive to her.”
‘Why won’t you?’
“I don’t want Serina to think I’m suffocating her. As much as possible, I want her to have her freedom and still choose me in the end. I don’t want to force her. Besides, she can’t really fall in love with someone else other than us.”
‘You have a point.’
Serina was watching her favorite TV show in the living room while her mother and father cook in the kitchen. Her father didn’t really go to the company everyday because he was allowed to work at home. He only visits the company when there’s a report he needed to do or if there’s a meeting he needed to attend. Most of the time, you can only find him in his home.
Someone rang the doorbell to their home and Serina didn’t suspect Nicholas to come so, she confidently opened the door to see who their guest was.
Her feet stopped moving and she just stood there staring at him. She could hear the loud beat of her heart and she felt the world has stopped spinning. There was just Nicholas and her. She didn’t know what to do. Her heart wasn’t prepared for this meeting yet.
“Serina.” Nicholas mumbled her name. He didn’t wait for her to open the gate and just used his psychic power to open the lock for him. He didn’t care if she’d question him later about it but right then and there, all he could think of was to get close to her, to feel the warmth of her body and to be in the same space as her. ‘Chill. She’s not getting away this time.’ Kiro teased Nicholas again.
“Nicholas.” Serina muttered, lifting her leg one after another to get to him. Even though she was unprepared for this meeting, she couldn’t deny the happiness she was feeling as well. The gate opened on its own and she wasn’t sure if it was her who did. The only thing she remembered was running to him. When he opened his arm, he didn’t even hesitate to throw herself at him. “Nicholas, you’re here.”
“I wanted to talk to your father about something. I didn’t expect to see you.” He felt her turning rigid in his arm and he did his best to calm her down, lifting away her anxiety. “I’m glad you’re home. I was thinking of calling you. I booked a ticket for you to come home but I guess I have to cancel it.”
“Sorry, I didn’t inform you ahead of time.”
“It’s okay.” Nicholas whispered and hugged her even tighter. “I’m just so glad you are here.”
“How about we get inside first? It’s getting colder outside.” Serina stated, trying to pull away from him but Nicholas held her close, pulling the ends of his coat to cover her. “You are being sweet but I’ll still feel cold with this. Let’s just get inside.” She held his hand instead and led him inside the house. This little gesture made Nicholas happier, even Kiro couldn’t stop himself from smiling. “Dad, mom, Nicholas is here.”
Michael went of the kitchen, still wearing his apron and greeted his boss. They might be a little closer compared to normal employee and employer but Michael always kept in mind that Nicholas was his boss. Although, they can be casual when no one else is around. “Nik, you’re here. Have you had dinner already? If not, just dine with us.”
“Thank you for the offer. I’ll gladly take it.”
“Just feel at home. Rina just came back from Paris so you two can talk catch up to each other’s life.” Michael stated and eyed his daughter. Serina nodded her head faintly when Nicholas wasn’t watching her.
“I brought wine by the way.” Nicholas gave the bottle of wine to Serina and she took it happily. She perfectly covered her worries and even though she didn’t understand why her father looked at her meaningfully earlier, she was still able to converse with Nicholas as if nothing was bothering.
‘Rina? Something happened to Corinne.’ It was Damon who suddenly contacted her after several days of being away. She was even more confused as to how he knew about Corinne. She never mentioned her to him. He only knew Natalya.
‘Don’t!’ her dragon warned her instantly when she noticed what Serina was doing. ‘Don’t contact him. Not now. Nicholas is with you.’
Serina looked at Nicholas and he found him staring at her. He looked shock but he didn’t say anything. “Nicholas, can I make a phone call. I just remembered something really important. I’ll be back right away.” Nicholas nodded his head and she left without looking back.
‘Did you feel it?’ Nicholas asked Kiro through their mental link.
‘I felt it. It was so strong and someone was talking to her.’
‘Someone else has a private link with her.’ Nicholas commented and his face darkened. ‘How can this happen? She is my mate and yet, she’s got a private communication link with another man. This is unforgivable!’ A surge of power overwhelmed Nicholas and it affected his surroundings. The small fish bowl broke and the gold fish in it was jumping on the floor, looking for water to dive in. The lights were flickering and it took Nicholas a long time to control his jealousy and anger.
Michael ran out to see what happened and found the broken fish bowl and the almost dead fish on the floor. “Was there an earthquake? I felt the shaking of the ground.” He pretended not to know but he had a clear idea that it was Nicholas who did it. He didn’t question him though and just brought the gold fish to the kitchen. He placed the small animal to a pale of water, giving it a new chance at life. As if relieved, the fish swam happily inside the pale. When he got out, Nicholas was no longer there.
‘Rina?! What did you do to Nicholas?!’
