Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 62
Nicholas was pissed off, so pissed off that the land underneath his feet quake in each step he took. He didn’t bother saying his farewell and just left the house that Serina lives. He was angry and couldn’t contain his emotion. It was the first time that he felt such intensity of negative emotion.
“How can she communicate with other man when I’m having trouble doing that with her? Does that mean someone knows what she is while we don’t? Are we wrong? Isn’t she our mate?”
‘Slow down.’ Kiro yelled at him but Nicholas wasn’t listening at all. ‘It could be a female.’
“There’s no way it was a female. I heard his voice for a sec. I know it was a man! Damn it! Kiro, you don’t have to defend her. If she’s not what we think she is, then I’m giving up before we invest so much of our emotion.”
‘And what if we’re right?’
“How can we be right? The signs were there. We just turned away and chose to be blinded. We can’t communicate with her. We can’t sense the wolf in her.”
‘I can communicate with her and I sense the wolf in her.’ Kiro retorted, trying to put some sense into Nicholas but he already closed off his mind. He didn’t want to listen to reason. His jealousy was over spilling and was blinding him. ‘Nicholas, I believe that she is our mate.’
“I thought of the same thing, too. She’s turning seventeen but she’s showing no sign of being our mate. Kiro, I don’t want to share my mate with another man. If she has someone else that means she’s not ours. Because mate is absolute. You cannot change your fate. You will only belong to a single person. And she does not belong to us.”
Kiro sighed and retreated. He wanted to deny Nicholas’ words but he knew he was right. Nicholas heard the voice for a second or two but as the one who already established communication with Serina, he heard the voice loud and clear. There was familiarity and intimacy the way he called Serina and even though she didn’t choose to answer him through their link, he had the feeling that she was planning to call him over the phone. Kiro felt the wolf in her but it was weak. Even so, he knew that she was there. However, in just few minutes, everything that they believe has crumbled. Serina could be a mate to someone else which was why Nicholas couldn’t establish communication with her.
Nicholas didn’t go back to the Vallardi estate. He went to his apartment and transformed to his wolf form before lying on the floor. He wanted to run and howl as much as he could, to release the negative emotion he was feeling but he didn’t want his mother to know. He didn’t want her to know that he failed to recognize the truth in front of him.
Meanwhile, Serina was calling Nicholas again and again but there was no answer from him. When her father asked her what she did to Nicholas, she was shocked and confused. She politely excused herself because she needed to call someone and he agreed. He didn’t even stop her. ‘So, what did I do wrong?’ Serina questioned herself but no matter how much she tried to think, she couldn’t remember hurting him or saying something negative to him. ‘We were just fine few minutes earlier.’
‘It’s fine. He must have something else to do. Why don’t you visit him instead?’
“Well, I guess we have no other choice but to do that.” Serina agreed. She felt a little sick and nauseous. She felt suffocated as if a tremendous negative energy was pressing on her. She wanted to throw up but nothing comes out. She didn’t know what was wrong with her and Brittislava didn’t say anything. She can’t tell Serina about her mate yet. Not yet.
The next day, Serina tried calling Nicholas once again but she was routed to automatic voice machine. She left him a message but a whole has passed and there was no response from him. She tried and tried but Nicholas was still ignoring her. And the same nauseous feeling was battering her. She even threw up the food she ate and she looked pale. She wanted to scream and hit someone but she didn’t know why she was feeling that way.
Her birthday was coming up and her parents decided to throw her a party since she’d be leaving again to continue her study in Paris. It’s not a big celebration but she wanted to invite Nicholas. She even went to their village, only to find out that Nicholas hadn’t been home for almost three weeks, that matches to the last time that both of them met at her house.
“Mrs. Vallardi, if he comes home, could you please give this to him. I owe you this big favor. I really need to talk to Nichola about some important matter.”
“You can’t contact him?”
“Unfortunately, I can’t.”
“How odd.” Zalia commented but she accepted the invitation letter and kept it. “I’ll make sure to let him know.” She said and even though she was smiling, Serina still caught her frowning for a moment.
On her way out, she met Yiran but the little girl only passed by her without saying anything. She can already sense the hatred coming from her. The same hatred she felt from the wolf she met almost a month ago.
She looked back to the huge mansion for one last time before going home.
Three days later, her birthday finally arrived but Nicholas didn’t come. She prepared herself again and again, repeated the words she wanted to tell him but the person who was supposed to receive her words didn’t appear. She waited until midnight, pretending to be happy when people greeted her but deep inside, she wanted to escape and cry.
‘I don’t think he’s having some problem with the company like you said. I think he’s intentionally ignoring me.’ Serina told her dragon while looking up on the sky. ‘I have spent so much time building my courage but, in the end, I wouldn’t be able to tell him.’
‘It’s not the end yet, Rina.’ Brittislava responded. ‘You will have all the time in the world. There’s always a next time. If not now, maybe tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. There will always be a day for you to tell him how you feel.’
‘You know what, I just realized. Maybe this is the sign for me to give up. Since he didn’t come, maybe fate is telling me that we’re not meant for each other.’
‘But you could be wrong, you know.’
Serina blinked back her tears to stop them from falling. Her birthday party was about to end and she will be leaving for Paris once again. She really wanted to see him for one last time because the next time she comes home, she won’t be going back to the same residence.
“Rina, we’re going home now. Happy birthday once again. One more year and you will be of the right age to get married.” Hillary stated as she hugged her best friend.
“Yeah. If you need a man, I have a lot of choices for you.” Brigette added while pointing her hands towards Timothy and Jonathan who only laughed awkwardly.
“She’s got Nicholas, right?”
“Hmp! He didn’t even come today. I’m not voting him anymore.” Brigette retorted. “Anyway, you take care of yourself always. We won’t be neighbors the next time you come home but we will surely visit you time and time again.”
“I’ll be expecting that.” Serina hugged her friends tightly even though she wished to be alone at this moment. She knew she was being pretentious but she didn’t want to break down in front of them.
When the last guest left, Serina went to her room and cried. She didn’t bother changing her clothes and remove her make up. She just sat on the floor and hugged her pillow to cry her heart out. She felt so sad. She was really expecting him to come but he didn’t. Damon couldn’t come as well because he needed to go back to Paris but she didn’t care about that. It didn’t matter to her.. What matters to her was Nicholas but she was only met with disappointment.
