Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 63
Nicholas was inside his apartment, drinking wine and getting himself drunk. His mother brought him the invitation card that Serina sent to their home for him but he didn’t bother himself to open it. He knew what the content would be and he didn’t have the intention to come. It’s a waste of time when she’s not someone meant for him.
‘Nicholas, I can feel her distress.’
“I don’t feel a damn thing! It’s only you because you establish communication with her.”
‘Isn’t that a good thing? Nicholas, let’s go and see her.’
“No, I’m not. If you want, you can go.”
Kiro immediately transformed to his wolf form but Nicholas transformed them back to his human form. For an hour, both of them played a game of transformation but none of them relent. Nicholas wasn’t going to give in to his wolf. He won’t let him shatter both of them to pieces.
‘I hope you won’t regret your decision today.’ Kiro said and retreated. He could sense Serina’s heart break but Nicholas was too selfish to even think about it. She’s hurt? He’s hurt, too. His selfishness will be the destruction of everything.
The next morning, when he was all sober, he went to work as if nothing happened. The letter that Serina sent him was still lying on his bedside drawer – unopened. He wanted to throw it away but Kiro kept telling him not to even though there was no point in keeping it.
‘Nicholas, can we read the letter?’ Kiro asked him once again. He couldn’t remember the number of times he asked him of this thing but Nicholas remained uncaring. From morning until evening, he was asking Nicholas the same thing. ‘You have been checking the calendar, are you counting the date that she’d be possibly go back?’ There was still no answer from Nicholas. Their private link was blank and he couldn’t read him. ‘Next year, she will be turning eighteen. If we’re wrong about her, it would be difficult for us to establish relationship with her again. Nicholas, I know – ‘
‘Can you just shut up?!’ Nicholas yelled angrily.
‘Why should I, you idiot?! If you were wrong all about her, I’m telling you, I won’t transform back to my wolf form and I will never lend you my power! You will never become the alpha of the pack and you will be a laughing stock! I don’t care about being a leader anyway. All I wanted to do is to go and find her! If I have my own body, I would have left you already!’
Nicholas rubbed his face several times and closed his eyes. He didn’t know what exactly to do. If he was right, he’d breaking his heart again. He already felt the pain last time and he didn’t want to go through with it anymore. He didn’t want to lose his mind for a wrong woman.
‘Let’s go home and read the letter.’
“I have work to do.” Nicholas replied and concentrated himself on his work. Sometimes, he could see a dragon weeping over something. Sometimes, he’d see her breathing fire in the sky. He thought they were all his imagination after all the things he went through.
In the evening, when he returned back to the apartment, he saw her letter once again. He knew it was nothing but an invitation letter but Kiro kept urging him to read it. ‘You won’t lose a thing if you read it but you might lose someone if you won’t.’ Kiro told him once again like a devil whispering close to his ears.
Nicholas took a shower first and when he returned to his bedroom he took the letter and opened it. His hands trembled as he continued to read and felt his soul leaving his body. Without even thinking, he went out of his apartment and ran to the woods at the back. Kiro didn’t want wait for Nicholas to signal him. He immediately transformed to his wolf form. They ran using the shadows as their cover, making sure that they won’t be spotted. He was running so fast to get to the Wentworth’s residence. He needed to apologize to her.
‘I have something very important to tell you and I don’t know what future will we have but I want to tell you my feelings. I hope you’d come so that we can talk and if you won’t, I’d take it that you don’t want to hear them. Nonetheless, I won’t take it against you.’
The letter wasn’t a normal invitation to her birthday party. It was a love letter. It was something she personally wrote for him.
Nicholas was cursing himself several times and Kiro added fuel to his hatred as well. Kiro told him not to regret his decision few days ago but now, he was regretting it so much he could just die.
Kiro ran as fast as could, travelling the distance in few minutes but when they arrived, the house was dark, not a single light was turned on. He circled the house, trying to sense her presence but Nicholas couldn’t hear anything at all, not a snore or a faint beat of a heart. The house was empty.
‘Where could they be?’ He asked himself while pacing back and forth at the garden. He couldn’t find their car in the garage as well. Nicholas waited at the garden, hiding behind the bushes, hoping for the Wentworth family to come home soon. He waited until three in the morning but no one came home. Knowing that he’d be vulnerable during daytime especially with his huge wolf form, he decided to go back to his apartment.
The moment he returned, he looked for his phone and opened it. Hundreds of messages popped up and there were hundreds of calls from Serina as well. She had been calling him from the last time they saw each other, hoping to get hold of him. He also called her around ten in the morning just right before he went to work. He has a lot of phone for both work and personal use. Of course, Serina has his personal number and when he turned his phone off, she has no other way to contact him.
He immediately returned her call but this time, he was the one met with disappointment.. Panic settled in his heart, eating him away, almost destroying his sanity. “Just why the hell is this happening?!”
