Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 65
Just as she promised, Serina pushed herself to be fine. She stopped crying late in the afternoon and started doing things that she stopped doing. She realized that she had been a coward, that she had been playing safe. Except for Damon, no one really knows what kind of soul was living in her. Natalya knew she was powerful but she didn’t know where her power came from. Corinne didn’t know either.
Inside her room, she read the books that Elder Alina gave her and started practicing her magic. This is something she could to shift her focus. She won’t accomplish anything if she keeps crying. Her class will start two weeks later so she had ample time to be alone. And even though she was trying to go back to normal, she still chose to shut off everyone from her life. No one was able to reach her.
‘Rina?’
Serina spun around to find the source of that voice. She couldn’t mistake it for anyone, it was Kiro. She frowned and looked at her book but she knew she didn’t imagine it. She was so focused with her magic that she has no time to think of someone else.
‘Rina, it’s me.’
‘What the heck?! How are you able to communicate with me over this great distance?’ Serina asked through the mental link that she has for the wolf.
Normally, for werewolves, the should be able to communicate in one link for both human and their wolf form. However, it was different with Serina. She didn’t know Kiro and Nicholas were one and the same. She didn’t give Nicholas the same link to talk to her. But as their connection grow stronger, there will be moments where she’d slip up which would allow Nicholas to take a peek of her mind. Just like when Damon contacted her. Her emotion was all over the place because they saw each other again and she didn’t expect Damon to contact her at that moment, letting Nicholas hear that someone else was talking to her.
‘I felt your distress. I can sense your heart breaking. I wanted to reach out to you sooner but I couldn’t.’
‘Oh! I had a little problem and it’s stressing me out but I am okay now. You don’t have to worry for me.’
‘You, you are okay? How are you okay?’
‘Hahaha. How can I not be okay? Am I not allowed to be okay? I just realized that things were not as I expected. There were things that I cannot force on someone and I accepted that fact. I am now helping myself to get over with it.’ Serina answered with faint laughter. She didn’t want Kiro to know what was really going on but she has no idea that Kiro was literally involved in this matter. ‘I’m currently doing something important so, can we talk later?’
‘Hn.’ Kiro retreated immediately from her mind and she was very thankful for that. She took a deep breath and sighed. She knew it’s not easy to move on but she has to take a step and do it.
Meanwhile, on a plane to Paris, Kiro was getting frustrated and was lashing at Nicholas in their mental link. He felt it. Serina was slowly withdrawing away from him and he knew the reason why. She was worried that he’d talk to Nicholas. ‘Damn you, Nicholas! I hope you won’t make up with her! You are an idiot!’
‘If I won’t make up with her, she won’t make up with you either.’
‘Hmp! At least, I can communicate with her while you can’t. I can be with her in our wolf form but you can’t in your human form. This is all karma! This is your punishment for being an idiot.’
Nicholas didn’t have anything to retort to that. He knew Kiro was right. ‘I’ll make it up to her. And since you can communicate with her, why don’t you build some good points for me?’
‘No way! You do it on your own! It’s your problem, not mine.’
‘It’s our problem.’ Nicholas corrected him but Kiro stopped talking to him already. He could still see his wolf glaring at him and he can’t do nothing about it. They’re in the same body whether he likes it or he has to like it.
As soon as the plane landed, Nicholas boarded a taxi to get to Serina’s school. Aside from his family, no one else knew that he’s in Paris. He tried getting in touch with Natalya but the woman told her that Serina was upset over something and has stopped getting calls. She didn’t know if Nicholas has an idea of what Serina was so, she didn’t inform her about their mental link.
There was a hotel booked for him already but he didn’t even stop there to put his things. He just went directly to her school and stopped right in front of the huge school gate.
“What can we do for you, sir?” One of the guards asked while eyeing Nicholas up and down. The school year hasn’t started yet and only the exchange students were staying in the dorm. However, the guard was sure that Nicholas wasn’t a student. “Are you perhaps looking for someone?”
“Yes. Her name is Serina Wentworth. She’s an exchange student here. We are very worried of her because she wasn’t replying our calls. Given the rumors of vampires attacking students here, were couldn’t sit still and wait for her response. I’d be very glad if you can check on her and inform her that I’m looking for her. My name is Nicholas Vallardi.”
“And, how are you related to this young miss?”
“I’m her fiancé.” Nicholas answered without batting an eyelid. He liked the thought of her being his fiancé but it would be troublesome if Serina refuses him. “We’re arranged to get married so, she might deny my title in her life.”
“Oh. I understand.” The guard nodded and opened the gate for Nicholas. “We have a visitor’s area where you can stay. I’ll call Ms. Wentworth for you.”
“I appreciate it.” Nicholas pulled his suitcase and followed the guard. If it wasn’t a school and if he wasn’t polite, he would have put them all to sleep and just look for Serina himself.
‘Fiancé, huh?’ Kiro teased deep in his mind. ‘I wonder how she’d react to this?’
‘We’ll know and it’s probably not a good reaction.’ Nicholas replied as he settled down on the bench. He saw the guard flipping a huge internal phone book while holding the telephone in his hand. Not long after, he dialed a number and talked to Serina over the phone. He could hear what he said and more importantly, he heard what Serina said.
“Who’s that? I don’t have a fiancé. Someone must be impersonating him. I won’t go out.. That person could be a dangerous man. How can you just let him in?”
