Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 68
Weekend and Serina decided to meet with Damon. It’s been a while since they last saw each other and right now, she needed someone whom she can be honest with, someone who knows what she was without worrying about her magic.
Damon waited for Serina. He didn’t mind waiting because he was used to it. He can be a friend to her and he knows not to overstep that boundary.
“Damon.” Serina mumbled when she finally found him in the bookstore that they frequently visit. That’s their favorite meeting place because of the books. She likes the smell of old papers and ink; and the scent was all over the place. She felt like she has lived a great life to be able to go to this place whenever she likes it. “Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“I just got here.” Damon replied even though he waited for more than half an hour. “It’s good to see you doing better.”
“I have to. I can’t let my emotions drag me down.” Serina stated as she pulled a chair to sit across him. “How are you? I thought I’d be able to see you around town when I went home. Not only did you disappear, I couldn’t even get in touch with you.”
“I was being cautious.” Damon pulled a pen and paper out of nowhere and wrote something on it. ‘There were many vampires and werewolves back in your place. I had to make sure that your energy won’t be spilling everywhere. It will be troublesome if they traced your psychic energy back to you.’ This was what Damon wrote which made Serina frown. ‘You still can’t control your power.’
“I thought I was doing great.” Serina mumbled as she clenched the hem of her shirt.”I didn’t know I was a mess.”
“Not really.” Damon answered and wrote the rest of his words. ‘You were doing great with your magic control but you are bad when it comes to erasing your traces. I believe, your parents had been sheltering you all the time which was why you were complacent.’
“Then, will you teach me?”
“Before that…” He leaned closer to Serina but his eyes were looking through the glass behind her. There was a teasing smile on his lips when he turned his head to whisper. The angle was more than enough to make people misunderstand and that’s what he wanted to do at this moment. He wanted to make Nicholas jealous.
Nicholas was outside the bookstore. He learned from Lambert that Serina went out to meet someone and she mentioned in passing that she’d be going to a bookstore. There were few bookstore near the campus so, using Kiro’s link, he went to look for Serina to appear in front of her again. However, he would never thought, not in his wildest dreams or in his nightmares, that Serina would be meeting Damon. His body went rigid at the sight of them and he felt like his heart was ripped out of his chest from the sight of them. Worse, Damon was so close to her.
Meanwhile, Serina felt uncomfortable. She felt suffocated and her heart was aching. She felt some pinpricks in her chest and she didn’t know why. As far as she knew, she’s strong and healthy. She didn’t have any heart illness, too.
“Give me a sec. I need to get some water. I feel a little bit stuffy.” Serina mumbled and stood up with her bag in hand. Before she could leave though, Nicholas was already there, in front of her – looking upset and anxious at the same time. “Nik.” She muttered with her eyes wide open.
He didn’t know what exactly happened but the next thing Nicholas knew was that he was dragging Serina back to his house. She was trying to pull away from him but Nicholas didn’t listen to any of her words. He was angry beyond compare. He couldn’t control his emotions at all.
Disregarding her presence, he opened the gate and the door to his house using his magic. He pulled her over and dragged her inside before closing the door behind them.
“Let me see your wrist.”
“And now you care about that? Just what the hell’s wrong with you? You didn’t even say anything before dragging me here. And who owns this place?”
“I own the place for the time being.”
“Right.” Serina mumbled and looked for a chair to sit before she’d hit him with her fist. She felt really annoyed right now. “Don’t bother checking.” She said and yanked her hand away from him when he tried to reach for her. “I can help myself.”
“Rina.”
“This is considered kidnapping specially that I’m a minor.”
“You are a minor and yet you were hanging with Damon!”
“What’s wrong with me hanging out with my friend?”
“Friend? He’s…he’s a..he’s -”
“He’s a vampire. I know.”
Nicholas was stunned upon hearing her words. He didn’t expect that Serina would be so accepting even with the fact that Damon was a vampire, a blood sucking monster.
“You were being rude.” she said. “And I’m hungry.”
“I’ll cook some food.”
They both knew that they were just making excuses to erase the tension in the room. She’s upset and he’s upset which made things difficult for both of them. Even if she wanted to scream and yell at him, she felt it was wrong to do so.
“Rina.”
“What?”
“I’m sorry.”
“For?”
“For everything.” Even though he said that he’d cook for her, he didn’t move away. He stood there in front of her, baring his soul for her to see. “I’m sorry for everything. I’m sorry Ieft without a word. I’m sorry I didn’t read your letter and missed out your birthday. I’m sorry for being a coward. I’m sorry for not being honest with you.”
“That’s all?”
“Well, I’m not sorry for annoying you now and for appearing in your life again and again.”
“You didn’t apologize for dragging me here. My wrist still hurts.”
“I apologize for that one, too.” He moved a little bit closer to her but just enough to give her some space, an illusion that would make her think she can escape from him. “I’ll heal you.” He didn’t wait for any response from her and just held her hand, rubbing his thumb over her wrist while sending waves of healing energy into her. “I’m sorry.”
“What are you Nicholas?” Serina questioned. She wanted to ask him this question when she saw the gate and the door of the house opened on their own. She knew that he was the reason but she didn’t know what he was. “I’m a gifted person and I know quiet a few things when it comes to magic and psychic energy. So, what are you?”
“If I show you what I am, will you stay or will you judge me and leave me.”
“It depends.” He looked at her straight in the eyes and he knew that she wasn’t joking. No matter what he was, she wanted to know it and there’s no way he could avoid this confrontation with her. “Damon is a vampire and I accepted him. You knew it, too. So, what are you?”
“Let me cook some food first before we talk about my identity. I’ll have to think properly to avoid you running away. I need to choose my words wisely.”
“That works for me, too.”
Nicholas finally let out a heavy sigh and stepped away. He walked to the kitchen and Serina followed him. She wanted to see him even though there’s really nothing interesting about it.
‘Kiro. Are you prepared?’
‘To tell her about us?’
‘Yeah.’
‘Of course. I’ve always been prepared.’
‘Can you do a little preparation at least? We’ll have to think of a way to stop her in case she’d run away from us.’
‘There’s no way she’d run away from you. She loves wolves and we have lots of them.’
“Wolves can be anywhere.’
‘I forgot about that. But then again, we are teritorial. She won’t be accepted nicely if she goes to other place.’
The two of them talk through their mental link while Nicholas kept moving in the kitchen. Serina had no idea that he was having conversation with his wolf.
“What do you like to eat?” Nicholas asked while opening his fridge to look for ingredients.
“Anything’s fine with me. I’m not picky.”
“Then, I’ll make something that I like since I was young. I hope you’ll like it.”
“We’ll see.”
Serina sat on a stool and placed her hands on the table. Her wrist wasn’t red anymore and it wasn’t painful either. She put her chin on the heel of her palm and watched Nicholas move around with different meat and veggies in his hand.
“When did you meet Damon?” Nicholas asked in passing while chopping vegetables. He sounded nonchalant but in truth, he was very curious when and where they met.
Serina thought about it. She remembered Damon telling her about their first meeting but she didn’t really remember much about it.
“Hmm. In my case, I remembered meeting him here in Paris when I arrived last year. In his case, he said we met back in our city. I don’t remember it though. It should be the time when you brought me back to your house.”
The knife he was holding fell on the floor and the room suddenly felt cold. When Nicholas turned around to look at her, Serina saw the anger in his eyes. His blue eyes turned even deeper and she could hear the crackling of energy in the air. She didn’t expect him to react this way.
“How dare he lay his hands on you?!”
