Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 80
Serina woke up and stared at the ceiling. She was in Nicholas’ room once again and he was there, sleeping beside her as if it was the most natural thing to do. She moved a little, trying to see if there’s any pain in her body.
“Stopped moving. I didn’t do anything to you.” Nicholas mumbled and hugged her back to sleep. He still wanted to sleep a little longer but contrary to him, Serina couldn’t go back to sleep anymore. Her mind was already wandering back to the scene last night. She didn’t get to see the new born wolves but she met a werewolf instead.
“Did we go the forest last night?” She whispered and Nicholas hummed a response. “I wasn’t dreaming about meeting a werewolf?” Nicholas hummed once again. “If you are awake, get up and stop hugging me.”
“I’m tired. Let me get an hour more to sleep.”
Serina didn’t argue and just let him do what he wants. After an hour, he really woke up from sleep and got out of bed. They brushed their teeth together but Nicholas left the room to give her some space and let her shower. He went to the kitchen to make some food for brunch since they didn’t have much time and they needed to leave for Europe once again.
“How’s your mate?” Riordan asked his son when they met at the kitchen. He was refilling his cup for black coffee while his laptop sits on the dining table.
“She’s fine.” Nicholas answered his father as he opened the fridge for ingredients. “Also, you told me not to bring work into our dining area but you are doing that now.”
“I can’t help it. I have some problem to deal with and I couldn’t leave my work. I’ll be moving back to my study room.”
“Since when did this problem occur? Do you need my help? I can stay for few more days if you want.”
“No need. There’s no need. I can handle the rest. Just make sure that you take care of your mate properly. I reprimanded your sister already. Also, the elders already gave their approval of her.”
“I expected that. After all, they tried intruding her space yesterday.”
“I didn’t know about that.”
“It’s fine. Nothing bad happens to her anyway.”
“And if something happened?”
“Then, I’ll apologize in advance because I will wreak havoc if that happens.” Nicholas replied without looking at his father. He would never allow anyone to hurt Serina even if it’s the elders of their pack.
Riordan stole a glance at his son before taking away his cup of coffee and his laptop. He went back to his study room just as he said.
Serina wanted to meet Zalia before leaving but Riordan said her health got worse after the incident last night. Nicholas also stopped her from seeing his mother because of her illness. As for Yiran, she never showed up again. Knowing that she still owed her an apology, Serina left a letter to express her sorry.
She didn’t want Yiran to hate her even more. If her relationship with Nicholas wouldn’t change, she thought that they’d become a family and she didn’t want any hatred brewing between family members.
“I assure you that this letter will be delivered to the young lady.” The butler mentioned as he bowed his head in front of Serina and Nicholas.
Everyone thought that Nicholas was leaving together with Serina, she even thought the same. Contradicting her expectation, Nicholas hugged her tight and kissed her head without getting his own luggage. “I won’t be coming with you this time. I’m sorry.” He mumbled while burying his face on the crook of her neck. “I have to help my parents and I needed to stay for a while. At the same time, if you needed me, just give me a call. I’ll make sure to book the earliest flight and find you there.”
True, she didn’t expect him to send her off and stay but she wasn’t a demanding person either. Although she felt sad that he wasn’t coming back with her, she didn’t show it on her face. She wanted to appear strong, calm and collected in front of him. “You don’t have to apologize to me. I am not your responsibility.”
Nicholas felt his heart ache when she spoke but he just couldn’t abandon his family during this time when things aren’t looking good.
This unfortunate event was a blessing to Damon. When he heard the news that Nicholas didn’t come back with Serina, he immediately chose this opportunity to communicate with her. He wanted to end things as soon as he could, hoping to part ways with Corrine for the rest of their lives.
Before Serina could come back to her school dorm, she dropped by at the café where she and Damon frequently visit when they both have time. She didn’t know why Damon wanted to meet with her as soon as possible instead of using their mind link to talk.
“I need your help.” Damon directly told Serina without wasting another second. “There are vampire attacks in different towns across Europe and Asia. They’re not under our jurisdiction but I want to help because everyone from our brethren will be held responsible and will be blamed for something we didn’t do.”
“And what’s in it for me?”
Damon was stunned upon hearing this question. But she was being reasonable, though. This was a battle of his kind and against his fate, and Serina shouldn’t be involved. However, he didn’t know anyone more powerful than vampires.
“Aside from keeping your secret, I’d owe you a big favor. At the same time, you’d be able to help me get Corrine’s voice back.”
“Her voice?”
“Yes. I want to get her voice back, to free her from this stupid fate and let her live a good life. I don’t want her to be tied further with me. She’s not someone that should be involve with my kind because it won’t end well.”
“You mean, you want to severe ties with her?”
“Yes.”
Serina nodded her head. Thinking how much hatred Corrine has for vampires and how much she despised Damon, severing their ties sounded good to her. It would both bring them peace of mind. “Alright. I accept your offer. However, I need to train for battle. I have never done this kind of thing except those fight with one or two enemies.”
“I’ll train with you. Starting this weekend, I’ll come and get you to train for battle.”
This battle that Damon wanted to fight wouldn’t just change his life. It will expose lots of secrets and that includes Serina and her family. As for Corrine, she didn’t care about her fate. She wouldn’t give in to it.. Just like Damon, she wouldn’t allow herself to be tied further with him.
