Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 85
“Damon! I saw someone hiding on a big tree over there!” Serina shouted while throwing ball of fires to rogue vampires coming at her. She was already attacking blindly while keeping an eye to the one who was hiding. “That’s probably the lady you mentioned.”
“Take care of them here. I’ll chase after her!”
“Go!”
Damon left the horde of vampires and jumped from rock to rock until he stopped at the tree that Serina mentioned. There was no one there, though. “Damn her!” Damon cursed and kicked the tree really hard that it collapsed. He was just about to go back and help Serina when his eyes caught something shining on the ground. He picked it up and found an earring. The item looked very intricate and when he raised it, he thought he saw something moved inside the stone. As it was very dark, he couldn’t really see it clearly. He pocketed it and went back to help Serina deal with the vampires.
With just the two of them, they annihilated the rogue vampires in half an hour. Serina’s back was damped with sweat and she was breathing heavily. When she trained with Damon, he allowed her to rest once in a while. This time, she fought real enemies nonstop and it was tiring her.
Damon lent her energy for recovery and the both of them sat on the ground. A man in a military uniform came and salute to the two of them. “I’m Second Lieutenant Henry Ogiri of Task Force Alpha. I am forever grateful for your help and will do anything in my power to repay the both of you. Just tell me what you want.”
“I don’t really need anything.” Serina replied with a faint smile. “Well, perhaps a bed to sleep for the time being. I don’t think I can travel back home with exhaustion beating at me.”
“I’ll carry you back.” Damon stated as a matter of fact.
“You are tired, too. We can get some rest and head out later. Anyway, I’m already marked absent from school.”
“School?” The officer questioned in surprise. “You are still a student?”
“Is that really what you want to find out right now?” Serina returned a question and the man thought for a while before putting down his hand.
“Please follow me.” Serina and Damon stood up and dusted their clothes off before following the officer. “We cannot offer you a comfy room as of the moment. I hope you’d forgive us.”
“It’s not a problem. I just need a bed to lie on.” Serina replied and sat on the small bed inside the tent that the soldiers erected on the ground. “I guess you have questions for us?”
“Yes. I have few questions in mind. First, are those vampires we fought?”
“Yes. To be specific, they are rogue vampires.”
“How’s that different to any other vampires?”
“You answer that Damon. You know your stuff more than me.” Serina commented and kicked Damon’s foot a little, pushing him to the forefront.
“Rogue vampires have no thoughts of their own. They act according to the wish of their master or creator. The only way to kill them is to crush their hearts or to burn them to ashes. Normal bullets don’t work on them.”
“Why would they attack us? We’ve never heard of vampire attacks in the last five decades. The record we have of them was when someone killed five women for blood consumption. And that was it. I don’t think we did something to disturb them or whatever.”
“I have no idea why they’re attacking villages and that’s why we’re fighting them. We also want to know what’s the cause of all these attacks.”
“You mean, we are not the only place that suffered from them?”
“Yes. For several years now, I have received a lot of news of rogue vampires rampaging in different places.”
“And what about you two? What are you?”
Serina and Damon looked at each other’s eyes, talked telepathically as to what they should do to the Lieutenant in front of them. They cannot risk Serina’s life knowing that she’s being hunted by the Blue Moon Pack and their alliance. If it goes out that she’s a dragon bearer, it will be the end of her.
‘He’s useful to us. He’s got connections that we don’t. Why don’t we ask him for a favor to repay us instead?” Serina told Damon and explained the detail of her plan.
‘You tell him.’ Damon retorted which made Serina roll her eyes at him. ‘It’s your plan.’
Serina faced the officer once again and smiled at him. “We are magic practitioners. This might sound a little unbelievable to you that magic exists and there are vampires and many other species out there. It’s obvious that you have no knowledge of this and this resulted to the situation you were in. Now, you have seen it with your own eyes. The two of us are allies of justice. We’re going from one place to another, rescuing villages from being ruined. I hope you won’t tell anyone about us. We cannot have our identities exposed but we’d surely come should there be incidents like this.” Second Lieutenant Henry Ogiri looked at Serina in daze. He felt dizzy with everything she was spouting and his mind circled on the word magic. “Hey! Are you listening to me?”
“Magic? Can you check one of my men if he’s got magic? I’ve always thought he has unbelievable speed but I never associated it with magic. Perhaps you can evaluate him.”
“You can bring him here.” Damon replied and the officer left without wasting another second. “If that person can establish telepathic link with us, it would do us great if he can scout places for us.”
“We’ll use him?”
“Kind of. Anyway, what we are doing is for the benefit of humanity even if we are not considered human ourselves.” He smiled faintly at her and Serina only looked down on her hands. She remembered Nicholas saying that she’s probably a werewolf but she knew she’s a dragon bearer. In the end, she’s a weird person that appears human to everybody when she didn’t even know what exactly she was. “Rina, hide.”
“Huh?”
“Just hide. I’ll mask your presence. Just find a place where you can hide yourself.”
Serina did as she was told and hid under the makeshift bed. It was cramp but she tried her best to fit herself. ‘Don’t worry. They won’t see you..’ Brittislava assured and that made her breathe a little in relief.
