Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 90
“It’s nice to have you here, Mr. Vallardi.” Damon’s father greeted and shook Nicholas’ hands. He led him to his study room and even opened a bottle of wine for both of them. “I don’t think you are here for business related matter, though.”
“I’m not sure if it’s considered business but I won’t waste your time. I’m here regarding the recent incident of vampire attacks.”
“What about it? Is it because of the citation of the dragon princess?”
Nicholas nodded his head and crossed his legs. He looked intimidating but the senior in front of him didn’t mind his posture. There’s no way Nicholas would start a fight in a vampire’s territory. Not to mention, they’re elite vampires. “I wanted to ask if there’s any way you can trace or predict the next attack. I wanted to see the dragon princess myself.”
“If you manage to capture her, do you think it’s good for the world or not? I know your family holds a deep grudge towards her but I just wanted to help you weigh down the choices.” Damon’s father commented while giving Nicholas a glass of red wine. “I think it’s better if we can use the dragons instead.”
The atmosphere suddenly turned chilly and Nicholas’ ocean blue eyes turned even deeper. There was a spot of red in the middle which shows the depths of his anger but he didn’t show it on his face. He looked calm and collected. “Dragons don’t bow down to species weaker than them. They would rather die than become a slave. I don’t think your plan is feasible.”
“But do you agree with me?”
“No. I don’t want to risk my clan’s life knowing what the dragon princess did to my mother. She’s quite capable on her own. I don’t think we’d be able to hold our fort if she brings her whole tribe out from hiding.”
“You have a point.” Damon’s father commented before drinking his wine in one go. “About the recent attacks, I don’t involve myself with the events that happens outside my territory so, I don’t know much about it.”
“I see. Do you know anyone who pays attention to this?”
“In my opinion, this involves someone from the royal family or another elite ranked vampire. Only elite vampires and royal vampires can create other lesser or rogue vampires.”
“You didn’t try to find out who caused this?”
“Why would we bother? As a vampire, it’s already part of our nature to feel dominant against other species, especially against humans. As long as our clan won’t be compromised, we don’t really care that much.” The vampire poured another wine on his glass and sighed. “It’s quite different with my youngest son and with my daughter, though.”
‘Damon.’ Nicholas thought but he made sure no expressions showed on his face. “I heard about your daughter. Isn’t she over with her late husband?”
“Husband? I never agreed for them to marry.” He said angrily and drank his wine again. “She was so stubborn. Nothing good comes out from falling in love with humans and yet, she gave her heart to him. Even though he died many years ago, she still kept thinking about him. She refused to marry anyone else.”
“You don’t believe in mates.”
“No, we don’t.” he confirmed which was what’s written in books. “We don’t care about mates like you. We only care for power.”
Nicholas faintly smiled and placed his glass on the table. “I’m sorry to hear about your daughter. Anyway, I just came here because of those recent attacks. Since you have no idea, I’ll just go and check them myself. I’m thankful for your other information, though.”
“No problem. I’m glad I could help you a little. Anyway, you are much sensible than my youngest son. I hope you guide Damon well with his business in your city.”
“I’d be glad to, Mr. Du Lac.” Nicholas bowed his head a little before leaving. ‘Your son is actually sensible compared to you. He’s not a selfish beast.’ Nicholas thought. The butler was walking down with him to the ground floor and there, he saw Damon sitting on the couch. ‘Stop using my mate for selfish reasons.’ Nicholas told Damon through a telepathic link without even looking at him.
‘It’s not for a selfish reason. She chose to do it after knowing the truth.’ Damon retorted while flipping a finance magazine.
‘I won’t argue with you about that. I just hope you continue to keep her safe amidst the things you two are busy with.’
‘You won’t ask what we were doing?’
‘I trust she’d tell me in the future and I know she won’t do anything that could hurt me.’
‘You are very much in love with her. I don’t feel the same vibe with Rina. Even though she is your mate, she seems strong and independent. She was not like those other women who become lovesick if they couldn’t see their mate. She doesn’t lose her mind given the distance between you and her.’
‘My mate is strong. She must be the strongest of all she-wolf alive. I’m not sad with the fact that she can live freely without me. In fact, I am happy for her.’
Damon didn’t say anything anymore to taunt Nicholas. He’s got this feeling that Nicholas knew about Serina. He watched the man walk out of their mansion without even looking at him. ‘Is it because they’re mate which was why he’s not angry with her? He doesn’t look jealous either. Contrary to him, I don’t believe in mate and fate and stuff. However, I felt angry when saw Corrine talking to Serina’s classmate. That’s kind of weird.’ Damon thought to himself before going upstairs. He wasn’t really sure as to how much Nicholas know so, it’s better if he and Serina becomes even more cautious.
“I heard Mr. Vallardi came.” Veronica stated when she opened the door of her room and found Damon walking back to his bedroom. “Was he asking about those recent vampire attacks? I heard that the dragon princess was there when the vampires went crazy.”
“That’s probably the reason. At the same time, I didn’t feel any sort of energy that could lead to the dragon. It’s probably because I’m weak.”
“Weak huh.” Veronica snorted and smiled at her brother. “I’ll get some rest now. I felt tired without my husband beside me.”
“You always feel that.” Damon retorted and left his sister alone. She’s always been like that. She refused to go anywhere outside their territory. The only time she goes out was when she wanted to check her lover’s grave at the garden.
Inside Veronica’s room, heaps of books were filed and some were scattered on the floor. She never liked anyone coming inside her room so no one really knows what she was doing. On her study table, a small purple orb was glowing while she reads a book.. She loves to read books and ever since her lover died, it was another past time of her in addition to taking care of the plants on his grave.
