Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 91
Damon didn’t want Serina to engage in more battle but he didn’t have much of a choice since she was very important in wiping those rogue vampires. He really needed her.
‘Are you sure Nicholas won’t find out?’ Damon questioned as they headed to their next destination that Stephen reported. There weren’t that many vampires but they were stronger compared to the first batch he battled with them. Even the leopard’s clan had a hard time dealing with them.
‘Nicholas thought I’m at the dorm. He didn’t know I’m going out tonight.’
Damon raised his eyebrow but he didn’t make a retort to what she said. He thought that Serina wasn’t raising her awareness against Nicholas, thinking that he wouldn’t make things difficult for her, just letting her do what she wants without telling him. However, Damon got this feeling that Nicholas knew everything and worst of all, he felt energy of a werewolf following them.
‘Hey Rina, do you know what’s Nicholas’ energy like?’
‘I don’t. I have never ever attempted to read him. Why would you expect me to do that knowing he has affinity for wolves?’ she returned a question full of agitation. ‘Also, there’s a chance that he’s a werewolf himself. Do you know what that means? We are enemies?’
‘Don’t be so quick to judge him. As far as I can see, Nicholas won’t hate you for what you are.”
‘You are just saying that to comfort me.’ Serina replied. ‘By the way, you told me about the investigation you wanted to do with the royal vampires, how is it?’
‘I will be attending the ball next week. I will start the investigation by then.’
‘I thought you started it already.’
‘Do you think it’s easy to get into their territory? They are very cautious and even suspicious of their own kind. They don’t trust others easily.’
‘What a bother.’
‘I know.’ Damon stopped running and hid behind a large rock. ‘You can get down now.’
Serina got off from his back and smiled at him. ‘I still couldn’t keep up with you in terms of speed. Teleportation magic requires a lot of energy so, I’ll have to keep relying on you.’
‘No worries. Just work on them whenever you can. If you needed to practice with me, just let me know. In terms of teleportation, vampires are really good at it but when it comes to speed werewolves do better.’
‘Is because they are faster that you had to come up with teleportation magic against them?’
‘That was before? Our clans are archenemies. In fact, many vampire clans didn’t want to associate themselves with werewolves. I don’t like them either but my father insister we make friends with them.’
‘Your father is sensible.’
‘Are you saying I’m not?’
Serina just laughed at him and this made Damon smile as well. He really likes her. He just couldn’t understand why Corrine would appear and why would Nicholas be the fated person for Serina. He hates the turn of events but it’s something he couldn’t win at all. Werewolves place important with their mates and if he does something out of line, Nicholas would probably wage war against the vampire clan. It will be troublesome.
‘Stop looking at my mate.’ Nicholas told Damon through mental link.
‘So, you really are following us.’
‘I just wanted to make sure that she’s fine. I don’t want any other werewolves to find her.’
‘How lucky of her. Sadly, she didn’t even know your intention of keeping her safe.’
Nicholas didn’t move from where he was hiding. Serina had no idea at all that he was just few meters behind them. She was looking at the scene in front of her, just beyond the huge rock where rogue vampires gathered. They looked different to her and the color of their eyes were deep red. They don’t look the same with the other rogue vampires she battled last time.
‘Stephen, are you somewhere near the gathering of vampires?’
‘Yes, Ms. Serina. I’m currently hiding in the forest while overlooking at their group. These vampires are different. They have a mind of their own and can even talk. Their leader isn’t around either.’
‘The leader must have been aware that we have a clue of her existence. She must be hiding somewhere because these monsters won’t function if she’s not around.’ Damon stated on their three-way telepathic communication.
‘I’ll start it with my sun attack. Before the ball disperse, when they’re attention is on my sun, throw them a surprise attack.’
‘Got it!’ Damon and Stephen answered them. Stephen relayed the information to other leopard’s men and they were all getting ready to attack them.
Serina placed her hand on the boulder, calling the nature to aid her on this battle, asking for their energy as she concentrated herself to make the huge ball of gas and fire. The replica of the sun was slowly forming over the group of vampires and while their attention was at it, Damon, Stephen and other leopard’s men attacked the vampires. They went straight for the heart but there were other who were vigilant. They were able to dodge and regroup.
The ball of energy burst out and little fires rained down from the sky, burning those vampires they landed on. It was chaotic.
Nicholas was watching with awestruck expression. He never thought that she’s very powerful. He didn’t know anyone who can make such huge ball of energy, even the grand elder of the Blue Moon Pack and the Red Moon Pack couldn’t make it. He was amazed with her power.
Seeing that there were so many vampires around them, Nicholas looked for ways to help as well. He picked up stones and using his energy, he threw them to the vampires and struck them right on their chest, crashing their bones and the heart inside it.
Fifteen minutes later, Damon retreated and sent Serina into his illusionary space. ‘Do not come out! Do not speak. Do not do anything. The werewolves are coming.’
Serina went still and just stood where she was. She didn’t know where Damon threw her but she knew that he was surrounding her with his energy.
“We’re here to help.” One of the werewolves stated and launched an attack.
Nicholas showed up as well and pretended to have just arrived from the opposite side. He helped Damon and the others to kill the vampires but they were strong and fast. It took them a long time to finish them off.
‘Thank you.’ Nicholas told Damon, meaning the way he protected Serina from other werewolves.
‘Since you knew, why aren’t you saying anything?’
‘I promised that I won’t nag her with questions. I will wait for her to tell me everything herself. Anyway, don’t tell her that I came.’
‘Sure.’ Damon responded without hesitation. “Mr. Vallardi, thank you so much for your timely assistance.” He loudly said to make sure that the other werewolves could hear him. “This time, I felt an unfamiliar trace of energy and it was really strong. I thought it was the dragon princess so, I called you. I wasn’t really sure though since I have never really encountered her and the energy suddenly disappeared.”
“You are not mistaken.” One of the werewolves spoke to Damon. “That was the energy of the dragon princess. She must have roused these vampires to attack villages.”
“I don’t think so.” Damon disagreed almost automatically. “When we got here, a lot of vampires died already. If my guess was right, she attacked them before we could. She probably escaped when she felt our presence.” Damon replied, covering Serina from being discovered and Nicholas agreed with him as well.
As for Serina, she has no knowledge of what was happening inside the illusionary space that Damon threw her in.
Nicholas, along with the other werewolves, left the battlefield where corpse of vampires filed in heaps. He didn’t even look back, letting Damon deal with the aftermath and in protecting Serina from others.
‘I owe you one.’
‘I owe her a lot.’ Damon replied. He wasn’t doing it for Nicholas. He was protecting Serina because he owed her a lot.
“Who were they? Are they those people who looked for the dragon princess again?”
“Hn. One of them is her mate but she didn’t know it yet. Anyway, just keep everything a secret. It would cause a lot of trouble if a dragon princess gets angry.”
“Is she scary when she gets angry?”
“Super. She can topple three countries on her own if she gets mad. She’s very good in placing curses, too.” Damon stated, frightening the man, though he wasn’t sure if he was successful in it. The man was a soldier and he faced a lot of battles in his life. Serina’s presence could probably bring little threat to him. “Anyway, I’ll look around the place. There must be some clues left that could led us to the master of this horde.”
“And what about Ms. Serina?”
“I sent her home already.”
It wasn’t Stephen’s nature to be nose about some things so he just did what he needed to do and left Damon on his own. The important thing was the defeat of their enemies. Whatever’s going on with the vampires, werewolves and the dragons, he didn’t care about them.. He has no plan of placing his clan in harm’s way.
