Serina: The Alpha’s Mate - Chapter 94
Damon was still in disbelief even when he left the mansion. He didn’t continue to stay at the party for the third princess and left to go back home. He didn’t even look for his father to verify the news that the third princess brought to him. There’s no reason for her to lie. There’s no reason for her to make things up regarding Veronica. It couldn’t be a coincidence and he was sure that it was something the princess had to say without even knowing why Damon got the earring.
Even when he left, he didn’t tell the princess why he got the earring. She didn’t probe for more information either. As he continued to travel back home, he felt slightly uncomfortable. All this time, the person he was trying to find was actually living in the same house as him. More importantly, she knows that he had been mingling with Corrine.
‘So, she was pretending of having no idea about Corrine?’ Damon asked himself. In front of his sister, he didn’t like keeping any secret. He tells her everything; including the fact that he was exterminating rogue vampires. She knew them. She just didn’t know about Serina’s identity yet. ‘Or does she know everything but was just keeping it from me?’
The moment he arrived at their family mansion, Damon touched the stone that the third princess gave him. It was a stone infused with magic that can detect the blood of a royal family. It will only glow in the hands of a royal vampire. ‘Now that I think about it, I have never seen my sister eat human food or drinks. She only drinks blood from our servants.’ Thinking back to this, more strange incidents appeared in Damon’s mind. Before, he thought they were only normal things that his sister likes but now, he finally got something to associate those events with.
He used his magic to feel around the house and he found her sister at the garden once again. Without wasting another second, he went to the garden and tossed the stone towards his sister. “Veronica, catch it.” He stated and his sister did. She caught the stone before it could hit her and the stone slowly glowed. She didn’t look surprised at all. “You knew I was coming at you for this.”
Veronica’s eyes glowed like the stone in her hands. She looked at her brother and nodded her head. “I was expecting this to happen long ago. I didn’t expect it would take this long for you to know. I never intended to keep my identity a secret but father never really said anything.”
“You mean, my father?”
“So, I don’t have the right to call him that now?”
“I didn’t really say that but I don’t know which father you are talking about.”.
Veronica smiled faintly and returned the stone to him. She sat on the ground and looked up into the sky above them. “I didn’t know. I never even thought of it. I just felt so close with Elaine the moment she was born.” Veronica stated, meaning the third princess who celebrated her coming of age ceremony. “It was an accident that brought me to the secret chamber where I found the huge stone like the one you are holding now. That time, it was only out of curiosity that made me touch the stone. I didn’t even know its purpose. However, the queen saw me there. She saw how it glowed. I still remembered the intensity of her anger that time. I still remembered how she dragged me out and made me face the king.”
“So, the king didn’t know about you at first?”
“He knew. He recognized me but it was obvious that he kept my existence from the queen.”
“And why were you reported dead?”
“Apparently, the queen was under a spell. She thought she was pregnant and gave birth to a dead child. You must have heard the rumor of the queen staying at home, refusing to come out during her pregnancy.”
“I did. I thought it was just some stupid rumor about the queen. I never expected it to be true.”
“When mom was pregnant, the queen also thought she was pregnant. It was all due to the king’s lies. When the queen gave birth, it was actually our mother who gave birth to me. The king told everyone that the child died but there was no child between the king and the queen. Do you know how hurt the queen when she knew the truth?”
“So, that was the reason why she killed herself before the third princess turned fifty.”
“Hn. It was when she knew about me.”
“Elaine never hated you for what happened?”
“Is it my fault?” Veronica questioned which stunned Damon. “I am the fruit of their infidelity but I have not committed that act. I didn’t tell them to do it either. So, why would she hate me? She’s a very sensible child.”
“Are you sure about that?” Damon questioned with a deep sigh. “You have been good to her but I think you are just being used by her. She’s ruining you. She’s exposing the truth to me because she knew I’m chasing the person who created the rogue vampires. She led you to believe that a spell can bring back your lover’s life. She’s making up those nonsense for you to act against the whole brethren and against other species. She’s ruining you because your existence ruined her family.” Damon closed his eyes and when he opened it again, the scarlet hue of his eyes bore deep into his sister’s gaze. “You have to return Corrine’s voice to me.”
“Why would you think I’d do that?”
“Because I’m the only one who can help you right now. Whether you believe it or not, the third princess is already making her way with other vampires to check your room and obtain evidences of what you have been doing.”
“So, you knew.”
“I just confirmed it now.” Damon retorted before reaching out his hand to pull his sister up. “We have many more things to talk about but this time, you have to trust me.”
“And trust the dragon princess who’s been with you.”
He paused for few seconds before nodding his head. There’s no use denying this fact when she knew it all along. Both of them have secrets and all they can do right now is to help each other. Even if she didn’t share the same father as him, Damon still sees Veronica as his only sister. He wouldn’t let anyone harm her, not even the princess.
Veronica snapped her fingers and the next second, both of them were already inside her room. Damon saw lots of books inside her room – spells of creating vampires, controlling puppets and even the forbidden magic. Damon checked it out and just as he thought, the magic about bringing someone back to life was added decades ago. Most of the spells were written thousands of years back, but the one that Veronica used was written not so long ago.
He couldn’t really blame his sister for ignoring these details. For her, nothing was more important than to bring her lover back to life. He’s all that she needed to fully function but even this idea wasn’t really feasible.
Damon waved his hand and all the books were thrown somewhere else. He needed to bring them to a place that no one would ever think of. Veronica handed her the magic stone which she used to suck up Corrine’s voice. The moment he touched it, there was relief and bitterness in his heart. He was happy that he obtained the thing that he had been looking for but he felt bitter knowing that it was his sister who caused Corrine’s suffering. He didn’t know how to explain all these things to her.
Meanwhile, Serina was lying on her bed while reading the text message that Nicholas sent her. She just got home from studying at the library and he chatted with her while she went back to her dorm. She enjoyed every moment that she spent texting with him because she can relax a little and forget about some unnecessary matters that kept bugging her mind.
She was just about to reply when a magic portal opened in the middle of her room and heaps of books were thrown at her. There were so many of them that made her drop her jaw from the shock.
‘Just what the hell are you trying to do? My bedroom isn’t a stock room for you to throw all these books in.’ Serina complained to Damon through their telepathic link. She knew it was Damon because of the energy traces of the magic portal.
‘Sorry. Please keep them for me. I’ll get them in the next few days. Also, we don’t need to battle with rogue vampires anymore. I have captured the culprit.’
‘You did? When? Oh god! Did you get Corrine’s voice box?’
‘I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Let’s stop our communication for now. Please be careful and do not let anyone know that you have these books with you.’
‘What do – hey! Wait..’ Serina wanted to stop him but Damon already ended their communication and no matter how much she tried to reach for him, all she could reach was a blank space.
