Shadow Magus - Chapter 1 A New Beginning
‘My chest really hurts.’
This was Aria’s first thought upon waking up but just as she thought that an even greater pain could be felt in her forehead. It felt like her head was too small for what was inside and was about to explode. After some moments had past she could feel the pain in her chest slowly subsiding but her head took more time to feel better.
While it was true she just experienced the worst pain in her life she did not make a single sound. This was not because she did not try but rather she could not move a single muscle no matter how hard she tried. However, after her heart pumped blood through her body a few times she felt her energy recovering. As her conciseness became clearer she opened her eyes only to realize that she was in a carriage filed with people who are sleeping.
‘Strange, where am I?’ Just as that thought formed she recalled some strange memories she did not recognize.
‘It seems this is not the world I am from.’ The world she lived her life was one that was built upon great scientific discoveries. But According to her new memories the world she has now found herself in was one of magic.
The people walk the path of magic have the title of magus. The original owner of her body she now finds herself in was only a new apprentice far from a magus. In fact, she only knew two rank 0 spells which had nowhere near the power of a rank 1 spell of an official magus. But even so she is still considered talented from just that accomplishment. At the young age of only 16, which was the age when one became a young adult in this world not every one could accomplish what she has done.
‘Since I have come to a new world I will have to use the name of the original owner of this body, Freya.’ As Freya was going through her new memories the carriage came to a stop. The people who was sleeping slowly woke up.
Freya decided to walk out early. As she came out side she noticed servants running around preparing the campsite and food. Night was coming soon and they could not afford to continue traveling in the dark. After all, night was the most dangerous time and they had suffered a lot during their long journey but most of their loses came during the dark night. She had even lost some of her friends during such times.
As Freya sat down next to the campfire she recalled her old life. She was a middle-aged woman who had worked her entire life as a scientist. During her years she had saved millions of people and helped even more disabled people. However, she wanted to save more people, unfortunately her research slowly came to a standstill.
She needed to find a way to get results. To get the data she needed she would have to do experiments that would most likely led to death. While she was trying to find another way out her boss gave her a deadline. Her boss was envious of her achievements and had even taken credit for her work. She needed the money from the job to pay for her mother’s medical fees so she decided that she would have to find a suitable test subject.
The next day she coincidentally witnessed a man committing the most deplorable crime she could imagine. He had done so many unforgiveable things to what was most likely a young couple, it was hard to tell that they were once human at that point. Despite that the man did not seem to be satisfied with his work yet and kept going. He was so engrossed in his work he did not notice Aria standing behind him. She did not hate the man for what he did, in fact at the time she could not help revealing a smile. After all the man helped countless people after his death.
After she finished her research the police soon came knocking on her door. It turned out that her boss and colleagues had blamed her for the man’s crimes. She later confessed to what she had done but was still found guilty of the man’s crimes as well as her own and was later sentenced to death. People around the world showed their disgust for her actions. The anger she felt at the time was enough for her to snap.
‘I did all a could to be a good person and to help as many people I could. Despite my best efforts here I find myself, abandoned by the world! I always worked hard to help people, yet now they want to dispose of me? From now on I will only work for my own benefit, NO one else’s!’
