Shadow Magus - Chapter 12 Meeting
Freya woke up only to be greeted by the bright light coming from the window. She could not help putting her hand up to block the light. After a while her eyes adapted to the light and she felt that she no longer had the strength to keep her hand up any longer.
Reluctantly she finally put her hand down. As she did, she could not help squinting her eyes. This summer was abnormally hot and the suns intense light brought Freya a lot of warmth. But even so it could not bring her heart any warmth, in fact it seemed to grow ever colder under the suns light.
‘I prefer winter and a sky covered with clouds. I just can’t get used to the sun, no matter how much I try’. No longer able to stand the sun she got out of bed.
Walking out of her room, she headed for the garden to calm her mind. The garden was like a small jungle, it had some of the biggest trees and bushes that she had ever seen which formed a small labyrinth. As Freya headed in, she walked around aimlessly and soon found herself lost.
All around her where countless flowers which came in all shapes and sizes. Their colors where so varied that it was dazzling to the eyes. But no matter their beauty, Freya never showed any interest in them. In her eyes, they were just the same as the last, a flower and nothing more.
She could not help but to sigh, thinking of how pointless it all was. If she really wanted to leave she could just ask her A.I chip to show the right way. But for some reason she did not leave, as if she was searching for something.
She sat down on the soft grass and leaned her back on a tree. There she sat for who know how long, staring into the sky which now had a growing cloud covering it. As time passed the cloud turned darker, but she did not pay it any attention. Only one thought crossed her mind, ‘how peaceful, if only it could last a bit longer. Too bad for all things must end’.
As the soundings were dead silent, Freya suddenly felt something on her left hand. She ignored it at first, but as she felt it moving she could not help lowering her gaze. She soon discovered the perpetrator who disturbed her rest.
A butterfly was standing on her hand making some small movements. Just as she raised her other hand to chase it away, her hand came to an abrupt stop. As she took a closer at the butterfly she could not help but to notice its beauty.
It was something she rarely did, but this time it was different. Her mind turned blank and the butterfly took all her attention from her. It’s four wings where blood red with six yellow dots in total, three on both sides and the wings had a black outline. With her expertise in biology she could tell that it was a female. In total, it’s wingspan was only five centimeters and it had a unique charm that she had never seen before.
As she was lost in her own world, the butterfly seemed to have lost its patience and flapped its wings. Travelling just above the ground it soon arrived at a lone rose not far away. As she saw the butterfly taking of, Freya came back to her senses.
For some reason, she could feel a sense of sadness as the butterfly landed on the black rose. The rose looked very withered and dry, as if it was about to leave this world at any moment.
She finally got up and walked over to the black rose, to have a better look at it. What was weird about the rose was that it was just sticking out of the ground with its short stem. There were also no other plants close to it and its leaves had long since fallen of.
As she reached out to gently grab the rose to examine it, she got the shocking of her life. It was as if the rose was not attached to the ground and did not have any roots as it left the ground without any difficulty.
She almost dropped the rose from shock and as it was sliding down her hand she noticed another strange thing. The thorns moved on their own, avoiding her fingers as if not wanting to hurt her. Her mind was blown and she did not how to react but the rose was not done with its surprises yet as it quickly started recovering a healthy look.
‘Now what, why does it look as if it’s just been watered? With eyes wide open Freya noticed that she was slowly growing tired and that the rose was absorbing her spiritual force.
for visiting.
‘Does this rose need spiritual force to survive? And why is it here of all places?’ She had many questions but seeing as she had no answers to them she could just leave it as that. After some testing, she came to the conclusion that placing the rose in her hair for the time being was the best choice. This way the rose was still absorbing her spiritual force but much slower and this way she did not need to hold on to it all the time. As the rose started recovering, the butterfly seamed very happy as it was flying in circles which brought Freya a lot of joy for some strange reason.
