Shadow Magus - Chapter 4 Affinity
The next day they set off for their destination they did not encounter any dangers on their way seeing as most dangers had been removed in the area for this occasion. Soon a small village came into view, it was by a big river and was surrounded by all sorts of temporary tents of all shapes and sizes. The village was not that impressive looking and at best just above average. However, with the combination of the landscape and the tents it gave off a unique feeling of a destination travelers from all across the world gathered at.
When they arrived, the magus went and talked to the guards who brought her inside an office. She returned shortly after, carrying a small bag before leaving. Freya and the other 19 people where lead to a big tent. There was a long line that even started outside the tent. Luckily the line was not moving slowly and they soon made their way inside. The tent was nothing special, but there were two dangerous looking guards inside making everyone tense up.
Some people made small talk with each other but Freya did not care as they would probably never meet again. Freya’s last friend that accompanied her on the journey, Amelia was long dead. Finally, her name was called and she walked to a wooden table where an expressionless middle-aged man with a big beard was sitting. On the table, there was a crystal ball made out of an unknown material.
“Place your hand on the crystal ball” said the bearded man. Freya did as instruct and placed her right hand on top. She could instantly feel a cold feeling upon contact, soon after the colorless crystal transformed from one dark color to another before turning to black. At first it was only black but moments later one could occasionally see lightning traveling inside the crystal. Then a few speaks of light could be seen in the darkness.
The bearded man looked at the crystal ball for a while before saying “rank 4 talent, has good talent in shadow magic, a good affinity with lightning and light magic.” As he said that he finally raised an eyebrow. Rank 4 was the second highest talent one could find after a rank 5. This showed that Freya was a talented individual that was hard to come across. She would have a higher chance of becoming a magus then normal people.
That being said only that was not enough to make him interested in Freya. What was unique about her was her high talent for shadow magic which was hard to come across. But the most interesting thing about her talents was the fact that she was pretty good with light magic as well. However, she probably would not learn to much light magic as that would be a waste of her talents.
It was a well-known fact that what determined what elements one had an affinity with had a deep connection on one personality. In some cases, it was even possible that one’s affinity changed if the persons personality changed. However, changing one affinity was much harder as one grew older. One almost never came across someone with talents for two elements which natures opposed one another. This was because one could not be born with such an affinity.
‘I wonder what type of personality this person has for her to develop such unique talents.’ The bearded man thought to himself but eventually he decided that it was none of business. He would be happy as long as he got paid. He finished recording Freya’s results on the documents and gave a copy for her before he called for the next person.
Freya took the documents and then left the big tent. She decided to take a look at the different academies as she only had two days to choose where she wanted to study. After the magus had massacred the shadow wolfs, Freya had spent her free spent time familiarizing herself with her A.I chip. It was a convenient tool, the most useful function it had was its ability to collect and analyze large amounts of data.
‘A.I chip show me my stats’ [Beep! Freya Antoinette, profession magus apprentice rank 1, spiritual force 4.5, strength 2, agility, 2, vitality 2.] A stat of 1 would be that of a normal human while a stat of 2 would mean that her stats was double that of a normal person.
‘Record all the information of the different academies and put it in a new folder called (academies, general information). Freya was happy at how things was going and had a big smile on her face. For the next 4 hours, she took a look aground the village and compiled information on all of the academies and soon had a general picture of them.
‘Show me all the academies that are suitable for me’ The A.I chip compiled a small list of academies. There was a total of 7 academies on the list but after crossing out those that gave a hard time for their apprentices, those that had a bad reputation etc there was only three left.
They were as follows, Sages hut, Dark forest academy and Dark lake academy. Sages hut specialized in dark magic and was a small academy. Dark forest academy specialized in shadow magic and was a medium sized academy. Dark lake academy specialized in water and dark magic and was also a medium sized academy.
Shadow magic was in fact a more specialized type of dark magic. However, Sages hut was only a small academy meaning it also had to be crossed of the list. Out of the remaining options Dark forest academy seemed like the better option.
First of all, it specialized in shadow magic which was still better for Freya than dark magic. Secondly it was more secluded then Dark lake academy meaning it had less enemies and less trouble. Freya decided that she would chose Dark forest academy as it was the best option for her.
