She’s Not Our Daughter! - Chapter 57.2
Chapter 57 – How To Not Put Your Foot Into Dangerous Things
* * *
Cassius didn’t give up. He summoned a secret team in the House of Duke Ideos. He asked them for an investigation on the concealed murder of infants, the so-called ‘the murder of Icarus’.
As he wanted, the secret team had learned quite a bit of information. It didn’t take them too long to get that information.
“The murder of Icarus is an unsolved case. They discovered it quite late as it was a case of death mainly of orphans. They found the victim’s body, but the condition was quite unusual.”
“Body in an unusual condition?”
Cassius lightly glanced at the head of the investigation team in charge of the case.
“Yes. The dead body was bluish, not like a corpse that had just died. There was also a testimony that it has no vitality as a result of mana use. It looks like the devil had stolen its soul and was sometimes called ‘The Devil’s Curse Case’ in the back alleys.”
“Next.”
Encouraged by Cassius’ words, the head of the investigation team quietly recited the following information.
“The officer in charge of the case, Senior Inspector Leonard, seems to have investigated this case with great enthusiasm. But he strangely went missing a year ago. He is probably dead.”
Cassius’ intelligent mind put together the few clues he received. It was quite suspicious that the body was deprived of all its vitality and mana.
‘This is a good issue for an article, but it was interesting that no one has made an article like this.’
First, perhaps Senior Inspector Leonard was killed by someone who was trying to cover up this case. Was it the Emperor who wants to cover up this case? Who is the culprit?
His mind strained. He stared at the chief of the investigation team and slowly bit on his cigar.
“Next information, is that all?”
“About that… it seemed to be wrapped with a veil, so if you give us a little more time….”
He stared at the head of the investigation team with cold eyes.
“Dig more, in a way that no one notices you.”
He was glad that he was able to get this much information.

“More than ten orphans died.”
“So, don’t worry about that.”
Cassius told her all the information he had found so far. He told Sierra not to ever pay it any mind, but is that even possible? It was, in fact, impossible for Sierra.
‘Sister is involved in such a dangerous case?’
… The sister she knows was enough to be involved in such a dangerous case.
“I will find it out – the criminal. We will take care of him if we find him. That’s what you want, right?”
I don’t know what you exactly mean by ‘taking care’ of him… but Sierra’s eyes widened at Cassius’ sweet words. It was a situation Sierra didn’t want.
‘Hang on. What if sister is also being chased by Cassius? She was already suspected by the Dark Guild leader….’
Shaking her hands, she hurriedly dissuaded Cassius.
“No, it’s alright. You don’t have to do that. Well, thanks for letting me know….”
‘Because I’ve already got a rough overview of the case. I knew it was dangerous. I would rather not touch it if my sister wasn’t the only one being suspected.’
Sierra sighed heavily, thinking that the situation was getting more and more out of hand. Fortunately, Cassius seemed to want to change the subject.
“… I just suddenly lost interest. It seems that this is a case that a commoner like me has nothing to worry about, as the Emperor ordered me to not say a thing.”
“Is that so?”
“Hmm.”
Sierra stared at Cassius, desperately nodding her head.
“… Oh then, how did the second paternity test go?”
“They say the results are coming out. It will probably come out in half a month.”
‘I have nothing more to say.’
After a brief silence, Cassius called her name lightly.
“Sierra.”
“Hm?”
“… That case, it was a top-secret case that the Emperor is hiding.”
“Oh…?”
The Emperor is hiding a case where an Archmage is being suspected? It was an unsolved case full of doubts to call it an ordinary serial murder case. Sierra frowned.
Lifting a finger, Cassius slowly smoothed out her narrowed brows and warned her softly.
“So, if you can, just ignore it. just think of good things. I will make that happen.”
Sierra let out a sigh. Cassius’ warning wasn’t the kind of thing that could be easily ignored.
‘Cassius is right. It looks dangerous, so should I just stop here? I don’t think my sister would do that killing, and I think it was only a false accusation…. Wouldn’t it be over if I ask Ijiel to investigate someone else other than the Archmage?’
Sierra, deep in her thoughts, nodded slowly.
“For now… alright, I got it.”
Cassius ruffled Sierra’s hair after she answered with a sigh of relief. It felt like he was patting her to say she did a good job. Sierra’s earlobes turned red in an instant with the unexpected contact.
“….”
When their eyes were subtly looking at each other, a small noise came from outside the door, and with a knock, came the Head Maid’s voice with a sense of urgency.
“Sir Duke Ideos, Miss Sierra.”
“What is it?”
“Doctors from the Hippo Kingdom are asking for an audience. Miss Hanael….”
Sierra jumped up on her feet as soon as she heard the word Hanael.
“What’s the matter with Hanael?”
“About that… I think you need to hear their explanation yourself.”
Doctors of the Hippo Kingdom should be preparing for the paternity test, but did something happen to Hanael? Sierra opened the door in a hurry, running on the spur of the moment. But Kilo and Lanya were already standing at the doorway.
