Silent Hacker - Chapter 11:Facing The Beast
I decide to take a taxi as close as possible, then walk the rest of the way. “Are you ready for this Chip?” I ask as I walk up the empty street leading to his home.. Home base was more like it. “Oh I can’t wait! I’m getting all tingly!”
I pause and frown.. “Tingly? Are you glitching?” I hear Chip scoff and say “No! I’m running just fine. I’m just excited.” I smirk and shake my head. I should be use to this.. but it catches me off guard every time. I finally get a view of the overly large house… but guards were no where in sight.
Confused I walk straight up to the gate and look at the house… nothing. Not a soul in sight. I tap my wrist and the contacts linked to Chip switch to heat sensory. I look around the entire house but only see one human heat source coming from the living room.
“How much do you want to bet that’s him…” I say and Chip laughs. “Based off the measurements I got off him last time.. I can say that it is most likely him indeed. I’m hacking into the houses system as we speak. It looks like they have someone working for them… but he’s no match for me.”
I smile and say “Just give me the go..” I wait a few more seconds before Chip says “Now!” I immediately take off running and jump the high fence. I run straight across the lawn and again frown at how empty it is. “Chip.. Something feels off. I don’t like how quite it is..”
“I agree.. There are a few places I’m unable to see.. maybe we should call this off.” Chip says with worry and my frown grows. “We have to do this one way or another.. I’m not leaving my bike. Just stay alert.” I move along to the back and find large doors open. As the night breeze blows the long sheer curtains in and out.
It’s as if he was expecting us.. waiting.. I sigh and move closer. I think about climbing the wall and entering from another point but decide against it. He left the back door open for us.. why not use it. I walk closer and when the dim light touches my black boots I pause.. listening.
“The heat signature has still not moved… no other humans detected…” Chip says as I chew on my lip.. Oh well.. here goes nothing. I take a step closer and I find him.. Alec, sitting in a large chair with my bike right between us. He watches me with a smirk and I give him a dry look.
“The door was open..” I say and he lifts his glass draining the dark liquid before saying “I left it open just for you. Just as promised.. not a scratch on it.” I walk with caution as Chip uses the contacts to scan and memorize everything I see. Alec’s dark eyes watch me as I step farther into his home… possibly farther into a trap.
